I was driving my 2019 Ford Ecosport when the low oil pressure light lit up on my dashboard. My car then proceeded to slow down and would not turn back on. I got it towed to the Ford dealership where the mechanic let me know that my engine was indeed dead and I would need to purchase a new one for over $7,000. The car only has 61,000 miles on it and all oil changes and car maintenance have been kept up with. Ford needs to take responsibility and fix the engines for these EcoSports. My children rode in this car with me it was our only form of transportation now we have none. This is completely unacceptable.

In January 2020 we suffered our 1st engune failure at 30k miles and it was replaced under warranty due to oil pump failure which resulted in a sudden failure at 75mph. My wife panicked when it happened and almost took oput the cars around when the car suddenly dropped to approx 30mph on the highway. Although the oil light came on and the sounder went off it happened so fast there was no time to react. The repair took approx 2 months to complete. In July of 2023 we suffered a 2nd engine failure at 67K miles. The oile light came on while traveling at 55mph and within seconds the car dropped to 30mph and failed. Wewere told by our dealer it would cost 10K to repair and not under warranty which was unacceptable. This resulted in my still owing my bank $7000 on a dead car. We were required to purchase a new car and the Ecosport sits in my driveway and we are still paying on it.

Driving home from vacation when suddenly lost engine power and service engine light came on. Made it to shoulder and had car towed to dealer. After months waiting for warranty repair, was told that the oil pump pulley tensioner failed damaging oil pump. Was told due to low engine numbers from pandemic that Ford had them completely tear down the engine to make sure there was or was not damage and decide if they would replace it due to metal making it into oil pan from the damage. Ended up being ok they said so they replaces the oil pump, belt and assembly and the turbo charger. Did not think anything of it until I saw the article about investigation being opened for this exact reason.

The contact owns a 2021 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle like there was metal striking the under carriage. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the oil pump and turbo charger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and became aware of an open investigation: PE2301 (Oil Pump Failure). The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I was driving the vehicle to work and after about 15 minutes of driving it, the low oil pressure light came on and started to lose speed. I was on a highway and had cars behind me and wasn't sure what to do. I attempted to speed up so I could pull over at a gas station, but I was not able to go above 20 mph. I had to quickly pull over to the side of the road. After a few minutes, I attempted to get back on the road to reach a gas station near by, but was not able to get above 15-20 mph. I put my flashers on and attempted to make it to the gas station and finally made it and called a tow truck. I had to call in to work that day. The car was towed to our home and I called our local Ford dealer to make an appt to check it out. I was not able to get a service appt for 3 months! I had tobhave the vehicle towed to the dealership and they told me the oil pump was bad and I would need to have the engine replaced and it would cost me $6,000. It's ridiculous to have a car for 3 years and 64,000 and have to replace the engine!!! This conveniently happened right after the warranty ran up. I had just had the turbocharger replaced and the vacuum pump a couple minutes prior to the low oil pressure issue! No reason this should happen on a 3 year old car that has had the maintenance kept up on it.

On 9/23, the vehicle was traveling on !-94 in SE Michigan when it suddenly lost power. The vehicle had to be towed to a service center. The mechanic stated that the oil pump had failed, causing the engine to completely fail. The car was 3 years old, with 67.000 miles. Oil changes had been performed every 5K miles since the car was purchased. Because we did not purchase the ESP, we are now looking at $8K-$10K to get this fixed - we have no idea what to do. it needs a new engine.

The oil pressure light came on and now Ford tells us that we have to get a new engine that will cost us over $6,000 and the vehicle has less than 84,000 miles on it. Now i have to buy a new engine but i have taken good care of the vehicle. Now I here if I drive the car it could stop on the road. So now if Ford repairs the car with a new engine which is going to be the same type engine how long will it last before it has the same problem. Or stop on the road and cause an accident.

While driving on the freeway going roughly 68mph, a maintenance notice came on my dash stating “Engine oil pressure low”. Prior to this, the car ran fine and there were no lights on the dash. Soon after the oil light came on (despite the oil being changed less than a month prior), followed by the maintenance light. At this point the car began to stop accelerating, causing my speed to drop to between 48mph and the low 50s in the fast lane, and cars were having to swerve around my vehicle. It began to shudder and the check engine light turned on. I unfortunately was not in a safe place to pull over, and had to maneuver across the freeway at night going roughly 48mph still an hour away from home. When I looked up what this maintenance light was caused by, my search resulted in a faulty engine oil pump that may cause engine failure. Please understand, I have only had this car for 8 months and it has LESS than 60K miles on it. The car had been well maintained and had a recent oil change as standard.

The engine in my Ford Ecosport lost oil pressure. I was driving on the expressway away from home. All of a sudden my car started shaking and then it started slowing down. It slowed down more and more until the low oil pressure light came on. Luckily for me I was close to an exit so I worked my way slowly to the exit, which had an oil change shop near. At the shop where I get regular oil changes, they told me that my filter had no oil on it. There was gas in my oil. It ran out like water. At the repair shop, they told me that the engine would start, get pressure and then suddenly loose all the oil pressure. They said the only way to fix the problem is to get a new engine for $7,000. I am a college student. I bought a newer car less than one year ago and have been paying a payment of $350 so I wouldn't break down during my transit from school to home to work. The Ford dealership told me that now my car is only worth $5,600 instead of the $17,000 that I owe. I can't get a new car because that much negative equity won't transfer to a new car. If I go get the new engine that engine is going to have the same problem because Ford hasn't fixed the problem. I serviced my car with regular oil changes. I feel that Ford should stand behind their products and make this right. I have no car to get to school or work now. I have a payment of $350. I feel like this is a Lemon car and if Ford won't fix it on their own that a recall should happen to fix a product that could have made me walk on the busy expressway in bad weather, the middle of the night, etc. I'm a young female!!

2018 Ford Ecosport with 57k miles - no issues or sounds from the engine up until day of engine failure. On 9/26/23, the low oil pressure light came on while driving. Immediately took to a shop for an oil change (even though just had one 1k miles before) thinking oil was the problem. Then 30 minutes later the entire car seized up and the check engine light came on. Was not able to turn engine and had the car towed. The engine is completely destroyed and matches other complaints exactly about the faulty oil pump then causing issues with belt and ultimately the engine. Looking for any help to move this forward to protect other Ecosport drivers. I did everything correctly, constant 3k mile oil changes, no accidents - and this happened after less then 60k miles. Because over 4 months since powertrain warranty expired - Ford is refusing to help.

Low engine oil pressure light came on at around 66,423.04 miles while driving to work. There was very low power in the engine. I had to turn around and head back home before my engine shut down on me. So slowly I drove back home at the risk being stuck in the middle of traffic. My mechanic says that shavings from the timing belt behind the engine clogged up my oil pump. My car’s been off the road for over two months as I don’t have thousands of dollars to fix it.

The contact's daughter owns a 2018 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated while his daughter was driving approximately 35-40 MPH in the rain, the vehicle made an abnormal knocking sound and lost motive power. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact's daughter was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to be restarted but continued to make an abnormal knocking sound. The vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer who determined that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to another dealer, where it was diagnosed that the oil pump pretensioner belt had failed, and the engine long block needed to be replaced; however, the part was on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23015 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised that they would partially cover the repair cost. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

Engine has failed due to an issue stemming from their oil pump. Some report seeing a low oil level warning lamp on their dash right before they lose power, in some cases while the vehicle is in motion.
