Oil pump belt failed and caused engine to be bad, per independent service center. I have copy of the invoice, but it would not let me upload. Car drove like normal, then one day got in the car and "engine oil pressure low" message came on and the check engine light came on. Drove a couple blocks to get gas, car broke down on the way back from gas station (less than half a mile) all warning lights on dash came on and engine shut off. Towed to repair shop, estimated repair cost (engine ruined) is $6,419

My engine died/ car turned off and would not restart with less that a 1/4 mile notice of the warning from the vehicle. I was on a major highway and the warning alarm went off. I was in sight of the highway exit and decided to pull over there because of the extreme traffic flow and highway speed to other commuters. I only made it onto the exit ramp before the car completely died. I had only seconds to respond once the warning was given. Thank heavens I was near the exit ramp or I may have been stranded in the middle of the traffic lane with cars buzzing by me at 80 MPH! I was shocked to have a catastrophic engine failure within seconds of the warning notification. I would have thought the warning alarm would have afforded me more time to react or investigate before that type of motor failure. The dealer's service rep told me that once the oil belt breaks inside the engine the damage is pretty much terminal to the vehicle and that is was a common complaint with that type of car!

My drive belt or timing belt or something broke earlier this year due to unknown reasons, while travelling 65 mph on the highway. I have been unable to afford repair and was even without a vehicle for an extended period of time because of this. The engine required a special tool for my repair person to fully determine the cause and issue. However, since he did not own said tool, the engine has not been fully assessed. However, the engine no longer works and the vehicle does not run. It has remained parked for months. I saw that the NHTSA was investigating potentially faulty oil pumps on these vehicles (2019 Ford EcoSport) and believe that this issue also affected my vehicle, as well. It would explain a lot of unexplained things. I purchased the vehicle brand new from the dealership. My name is [XXX] on the purchase documents, however it was legally changed to [XXX] afterwards. The contact's wife owns a 2018 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 45-50 MPH, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's wife was able to veer to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the oil pump had seized, causing the engine to seize due to the presence of metal shavings in the engine. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would be charged for the repair because the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23015 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

After a few near death experiences and being stranded several times, my 2019 Ford EcoSport has had a new Sync 3 system, EVAP, and 2 “new” engines. And it’s still not functioning properly. (Was shooting out black smoke, jerking, stalling, screen blackout.) Jerking and the screen blacks out. But according to Ford, it’s ok to drive. Might be the transmission -after a complete diagnostic test and test drive. The car cuts off (not from the start/stop feature).

It gave me an engine code saying there was a connection issue but the car was drivable and that i needed to schedule service. No code saying your engine is failing. It was the holidays. Dealers were closing so i figured I'd call and schedule it for service. Never got the chance as it seized up on the interstate at 60mph. Thankfully i was able to safely get it to the emergency lane and then towed to the dealer. They are now saying i need a new engine due to oil pump failure and are refusing to cover the cost. I feel like this is due to there malfunction and they should be responsible.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact pulled over and checked the oil level, and the oil level showed full. The contact drove the vehicle to the gas station and added oil however, the failure persisted. While driving to the dealer, the Auto Start/Stop, Shift to Park, and Restart warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer and was awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,576.

So back on June 25th, I noticed that I got a low oil pressure warning on my dashboard and a wrench and red oil icon on the dashboard as well. I got my oil checked at Take 5 and they said oil level was o good and to see a mechanic. I took it to Midas next door, and I had total engine fail from a broken timing belt, and a broken oil pump. I had got this car used at 47k miles and had to replace the engine at 52k miles for $9,000. This car even had issues with it going into limp mode but Midas fixed it while I spent hundreds at Ford for diagnostics and they couldn’t figure it out. This seems to be a common problem with Ford EcoSport and hopefully there can be an investigation into the poor design of their engine and turbo boost. If u need documentation of anything, I can provide

1. The oil pump is belt driven and located inside the engine. The belt frayed and clogged the oil pump leading to low oil pressure. The car stalled on the interstate and is currently available for inspection at an out of state dealership. 2. The car gave no previous warning before abruptly decreasing in speed while we were driving on the interstate. 3. There have been other incidents, an employee at the dealer insinuated there might be a recall as this issue has been well reported and is under investigation. 4. The dealership has inspected the vehicle and said the engine was damaged due to an oil pump failure. They are requesting $6,500 dollars to repair the engine as it’s 5,000 miles over their powertrain warranty. The car is currently out of state so we had to rent a car to get home from visiting family for Christmas. 5. The first warning was when the car quickly decelerated on the interstate and it said low oil pressure.

On December 18, 2023 I started my vehicle for the day when I noticed the low oil pressure warning come on and off very fast, didn’t think anything of it because it didn’t do it the rest of the day. The next day the same thing happened, very fast flicker of the warning so I made an appointment with the dealer to have it checked out. December 20, 2024 it stayed on longer this time and the red oil indicator came on as well. Dropped it off at the dealer on December 21, 2023 & after testing the issue was the oil pump failing and the vehicle needed an engine replacement at 59,294 miles. The dealer stated the car had no oil pressure, metal flakes in the oil, damage to cam caps and heat scoring. Luckily it was covered under the powertrain warranty or it would have been over $6000 to have repaired. They did however replace it with a remanufactured engine so I assume I’ll be dealing with this issue again once this engine nears 60,000 miles so not too happy about that.

MY 2020 FORD ECOSPORT shows the engine symbol and the maintenance symbol and every so often my car wouldnt have power or it would just shut off while im in park while inside the vehicle. at first i thought it was a battery issue so i fully recharged my battery and than less than a month later im experiencing the same issue. i looked online and there is countless claims all stating similar issues like mine. my car has around 35k miles on it. i would greatly appreciated some more knowledge on the situation

The oil light kept coming on over the course of a couple weeks. We changed the oil, and it seem to be running better for a few hours. Then the car started beeping at the driver, the acceleration was effected . It was making clicking noises and lots of warning signs. The car would barely move forward and the driver had to pull off into a neighborhood. We then have the car towed to the Ford dealership where they told us us the engine would need to be replaced due to the timing belt fair and oil pressure issues.
