I have been notified by Acura as well as Carfax that I need to address my connecting rod for a potential safety issue/recall. I set up an appointment with Auto Nation Acura in Colorado Springs, CO and was just informed they are refusing to inspect my vehicle for this recall. The service advisor informed me that they will only address vehicles that have the actual failure happen to them, leaving people stranded.

This complaint is NOT for a problem that has occurred. This is a complaint about the refusal of Acura (Honda) to perform the necessary inspection & potential repairs associated with Recall Report # [XXX]; potential connecting rod bearing issue. The intitial recall was issued in 11-2023 with instructions to await receipt of a letter from Acura in Spring 2024, instructing me to schedule an inspection appt with an Acura dealer for inspection. I have called a local dealer several times over the last month & been put off for inspection appt due to "lack of parts". Today, [XXX], I was told by the dealer (Maus Acura of Tampa, FL) that no inspections would be performed until "the Fall" of 2024 per the direction of Acura, unless my vehicle was currently experiencing an issue. "An issue" was defined as a loud repeated knocking noise from the engine, whose repetition is in direct relation to the engine rpm's. I was also told that the bearing inspection is not actually performed locally, but by Acura corporate based on pictures taken by the local dealer. Only then would they decide to: 1) replace rod bearings, or 2) replace the engine. I was told to expect another letter from Acura in the Fall of 2024 directing me to schedule an inspection. At this point, it appears Acura is using a delaying tactic to avoid repairing a potentially dangerous defect, at the expense of my safety. This is in direct conflict to the intent of a Safety Recall. I don't appreciate this fact and its potential affects to my livelihood. I believe that a new form of pressure needs to be applied to Acura to force the inspections and repairs. How Acura Lost my Business The fact that no one from Acura will take responsibility for the ongoing issues has reaffirmed that my long-term commitment to owning Acura’s is over. Honda will only communicate via the phone and say "if the dealership can't fix it, neither can Honda." I decided, after months of difficulties with things not working correctly in my car, to trade it in. The last straw was when I looked up the Acura TLX Blue Book value; the car had a safety recall I knew nothing about from Acura. The passenger front seat airbag can deploy prematurely in an accident, and cause an injury. The professionals at the local Acura dealership cautioned me not to let passengers sit in the front seat; therefore the car was no longer usable for two people upfront. Acura can't fix the recall safety issue because there are no parts. This follows months of attempts to address other issues with the upgraded technology package not working correctly. Honda/Acura headquarters, and the Florida Attorney General, provide no written responses despite following the Lemon Law protocol. After owning my fifth Acura, a 2021 TLX, I recognized I could no longer count on the safety I’d come to expect. My daughter had come out of totaling my first Acura, a TSX, without even a bruise or scratch more than twenty years ago. This had secured my loyalty to the brand, I had thought for life. Acura has a safety recall on my vehicle for the rod bearing causing engine to seize and my engine seized I purchased the car in 2022. I was not aware that the engine was replaced in the vehicle before. The engine serial number does not match the vin but Acura is saying they won't replace it because the engine serial number doesn't match the and want me to pay 8k-10k to have it replaced. Being as though this is a known problem with this engine for years it's possible the previous owner could've replaced the engine for the very exact same reason there's a national recall for it now.

My name is [XXX] On [XXX] while driving to lunch from work. I heard a faint knocking noise from my car. Came back to work and schedule an appointment with my mechanic dealer in Atlanta and there i notice a recall regarding the rod bearing. On the way back to where I was staying in Savannah Ga, the noise gotten a little louder when i pulled up in the driveway. I didn’t want to drive it so i call a local Acura dealership in Savannah. The tow truck that came to pick up the car ask if the car was drive-able to load on truck. When i crank it…he said that the rod. From the car was towed to Southern Motors Acura in Savannah. My dealership mechanic is Nalley Acura in Atlanta Ga. Since Nov 30th, i been in a rental out of pocket since Feb 25, 2024. Each time i speak with American Honda they tell me the parts are not available as of yet. This has been an expensive and frustrating process dealing with them and nothing seems to be heading in the positive direction. At this point i want a new engine. Reason being, the car has been sitting idle for months and the existing parts that’s not being in operation may no longer be of good use with any new parts. I work in Manufacturing as a manufacturing engineer. This happens in Aerospace all the time. Trying to install new part along with existing parts that haven’t been in use, may have corrosion, will eventually go bad due to shelf life and seasonal weather changes. Please assist me in this matter. My number is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My car’s lights were on. I went to Acura to get a diagnostic and they said to replace the fuel pump. I replaced it, and the lights came back on. I got another diagnostic and I was told the fuel pump has a leak. I have an 2017 Acura TLX that was not apart of the recent recall which I believe it should have been because my car is slow to steer which may cause an accident.

My rod bearing seized, and I had to replace the entire engine. Per the remedy, I should be reimbursed the costs for the replacement due to the engine rod being blown. I have submitted to Acura, and they keep telling me to bring the vehicle in for inspection, but the engine has already been replaced. I have attached the recall notification along with the original deposit for the repair and then the final cost. I submitted it to Acura on 01/16 and was told that the issue has not been resolved since the parts are not available. We have replaced the engine and are seeking reimbursement, not the parts being replaced.

After stop light turned from red to green, I began to accelerate through the intersection, when I felt a strong resistance to me trying to accelerate. Second, all the lights on the dashboard lit up and I proceeded to pull off onto the side of the road. I turned the car off, then on again to see if something just needed to be reset or for a rest. Same thing happened and I was unable to continue to drive my car to work. I had my car towed to a nearby automotive shop and they told me the transmission valve needed to be replaced and possibly the entire transmission. They recommended I have it towed to Acura dealership - which I did. Elk Grove Acura's diagnostic was the same. They said that a new valve may not be the fix and I may need the entire transmission to be replaced. They quoted me at $3900 for valve and $9k for entire transmission. I still owe $9k on the vehicle. I am now in a very sticky situation. I don't believe the transmission should have gone out after 104,000 miles. My boyfriend's parents told me they had the same issue with their Acura. I'm wondering if it's a common issue with Acuras.

Complete engine failure occurred. Certified Acura dealership inspected and confirmed connecting rod failure was the cause. Vehicle was no longer operable. The vehicle had to be towed to the original dealership for repairs, a new engine was the remedy at the consumers expense. Vehicle was being driven at the time of engine failure, which put the safety of the driver and others at serious risk. This recall is overly delayed and has caused a financial burden along with the safety of many individuals. It needs to be remedied.

Engine failure due to spun rod bearing due to the rod bearing connection failing. Vehicle suddenly became completely immobile stopping on a busy road in the city during morning rush hour. Vehicle not only put me in danger, but many other drivers on the road because it stopped halfway into the street refusing to go forward or shift to neutral to be pushed up. There were no electrical or battery issues. Yes, the dealership has acknowledged there is a recall that has not come out yet on the rod bearing connection as well as letters from Acura regarding this problem. Yes, Acura dealership service center has inspected the vehicle with no solution proposed or a diagnosis even. No warning lights until the engine completely failed. There was a rattling/tickling sound for a few days prior to my appointment to get it checked out. The rattling grew faster upon pressing on the gas while parked and accelerating while driving. The vehicle’s engine failed on my way to the service center. The profession was very quickly on a Monday the rattling began it was driven less than 10 miles daily until the engine completely failed on Friday which was the first available service appointment.
