I am concerned about a serious safety issue with my CX-90. Both of the rear doors have consistently malfunctioned, failing to latch properly when closed. The door handles get stuck and do not fully return to their original position, preventing the doors from locking securely. As a result, the doors have swung open while the vehicle was in motion, putting passengers, especially children in the back, at significant risk. This is a critical safety concern that needs immediate attention. This issue goes back mid November 2024.

My vehicle had a previous recall done concerning the steering - recall #24V022000 of 2024-01-17. That corrected a problem I was having with a 'notchy' feeling in the steering when going down a relatively straight road. The problem I am having now with the steering is different and IMO is more dangerous of an issue. The problem is a notchy and "locked" feeling when the steering wheel is turned and kept at a required angle when going around a constant radius bend in the road. The specific problem is that when the steering wheel is required to be turned back to the center position after the road straightens, the wheel feels like it is almost locked in the turned position and sometimes returning the wheel to the center position results in an overcorrection which may cause the vehicle to cross over the centerline of the road and into the oncoming traffic. Interestingly, when I had my car into the dealer for a repair and was given another CX-90 as a loaner, the loaner exhibited the same issue. I brought this to the attention of the service manager and he basically ignored my concern. I will be making an appointment with the dealer in the near future and address this issue but I decided to report this issue because it looks to me like my vehicle is not the only vehicle with this potentially dangerous issue. I have been able to anticipate when this occurs but wonder if a less attentive driver would have a serious problem.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally raise a safety concern regarding my Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus, which I purchased and currently have approximately 25,078 miles on. This vehicle is equipped with a mild hybrid 48V battery, which is not a full high-voltage battery. The vehicle has been at the dealer since December 9th for ongoing issues. On [XXX], I began experiencing multiple malfunctions, including the Mild Hybrid System Malfunction, Engine Malfunction, and iStop Malfunction (with the iStop malfunction indicator blinking). This is a serious safety concern. I was extremely worried that the vehicle could stall, especially while driving on a busy highway at high speeds. Both myself and my family felt fearful while driving the car. I believe this issue presents a significant risk to the safety of drivers and passengers. I am requesting your assistance in initiating an official recall from the manufacturer for this component failure. Based on my research, I am not the only one experiencing these issues—many others have reported similar problems on forums like Reddit, which suggests that this could be a widespread issue. Additionally, Mazda offers a 6-year/60,000-mile warranty on this hybrid battery. If the component fails after this period, the cost to replace it could reach $6,000, with the customer being responsible for a large portion of the expense. This is concerning, especially considering that if this part fails after 30,000 miles, the customer may be expected to bear up to 70% of the cost. It is frustrating to see such issues with a vehicle sold in the U.S., and I feel that companies should be held accountable for offering subpar products. For comparison, BMW offers a 100,000-mile warranty on similar components. I hope you will take immediate action to address this issue and help ensure that affected vehicles are recalled for repair or replacement. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. I’ve only owned this brand new vehicle for just two months. Had I known these issues, I would not have purchased the CX90! Having issue with I-stop causing vehicle to stop whenever and now the dash display just popped up yesterday 12/09/24 regarding “Headlight Malfunction contact dealership”. I contacted the dealership yesterday and was going to be charged for a diagnostic test on a two month old vehicle, I don’t think customers should have to pay for a diagnostic test on a “brand new vehicle” and was also advised, Mazda is aware and working on issue (headlight malfunction has been complained about since 2023) but no recall on headlight malfunction, test! As well as now, there are two campaign #7024 J and #7124 J But at the present time service department is waiting on “when” the recall and headlight issue can be serviced! I’m confused why owning a brand new vehicle and being told of issues and experiencing issue along with recalls and not being able to get them fixed is asinine! What customer wants to pay lots of money on a vehicle to risk injury or damage due to manufacturer dragging their feet. I would appreciate assistance in these issues! Thank you

CX-90 AC system is faulted, while driving it keeps the temperature at comfortable level. However, it starts to blow warm and humid air at idling or stopping at traffic or traffic lights (with i-stop disabled). When gear is shifted into Park or Neutral, AC starts working normal again. This causes uncomfortable and unpleasant driving experience in hot summer months. The complaint has been filed with Mazda Corporate, but no resolution to this issue. Hopefully, this will be investigated by Mazda Engineers.

While driving (less than 2000 miles on the OD) in our 2024 cx90 SE the vehicle started to shift out of timing and everything shut off at once. The vehicle lost all power and all parts shut down. The vehicle would start back up and power steering went out. Our driving speed was at 30mph so it was extremely scary during rush hour traffic. We had to have it towed to the dealership, we're not sure what the issue will be.

The contact owned a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the engine seized. The contact stated that the failure occurred while the contact was driving at night on a busy dark road. The Police was contacted for assistance. The contact stated that it took two days for the vehicle to be towed from the location because the vehicle was missing a tow tool. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact no longer owns the vehicle, after agreeing to a buyback. The failure mileage was approximately 28,100.

Vehicle cabin air vents blow air that is over 101 degrees Fahrenheit with the air conditioning system turned off and the blower turned on. Cabin temperature was set to “lo” and outside ambient temperature was 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a safety hazard as the vehicle should not blow extremely hot air in the cabin and cook its occupants.

Vehicle present engine hesitation. In acceleration the engine losses power, noticeable delay and jerk when accelerating from a stop. Also if you have to make a suddenly speed reduction, you see that the vehicle still accelerating. First time the dealership did a technician service bulletin to fixed the problem, but for the second time with exactly the same problem they said that is normal. That’s a safety issue and Mazda is ignoring the concern.

Approximately six weeks ago, I began to notice the steering locking up ever so slightly as I made corrections in sweeping turns at 50 mph or so. In the beginning, I thought that it was road imperfections, but then it became more persistent and undeniable. Following this, it began to lock up more so when turning from a standing stop and accelerating, as when I was merging into traffic from my subdivision street. Some days, I notice it more than others. I was unnerved. I took the vehicle to the dealer, reported the concern, and was regarded as a purple squirrel. I was told that every update related to the steering had been completed and that there was nothing that they could or would do. The problem remained. With the concern remaining, I returned to the dealer and was told that someone else with the exact vehicle reported the problem the day before. Still, there was nothing that they could do as Mazda had not provided any guidance. I do not want to drive the vehicle. It is unsafe.

Mazda's Driver Personalization System is highly defective and properly recognizes a driver, at best, 40% of the time. Since multiple functions are tied to this system such as seat position, steering wheel position, infotainment presets, and a variety of other vehicle preferences, this not only causes an inconvenience issue but also a safety issue. The safety problem is that one has to stop the car, put it into Park, press through multiple menus and keystrokes just to change the setting to the correct driver.

Mazda Connect (Infotainment System) will regularly freeze and reboot. Issue is more pronounced when more than one iPhone is connected via USB-C. If each phone has a different version of iOS, Mazda Connect will freeze, crash, and reboot. If one person is connected and then physically disconnects, then another iPhone with a different version of iOS connects, Mazda Connect will freeze, crash and reboot. To make matters worse, these incidents are not recorded in any logs.

Stopped at a red light on a busy 2-lane road. I-stop function turned the engine off. When the light turned green, releasing the brake caused a "Hybrid Battery Malfunction" error and the engine failed to start. We put the transmission in park and attempted to turn off and turn on the car with the push to start button. When we attempted to start the car with the push to start button, the car would not start. We were unable to shift into neutral to move the car out of the busy 2-lane highway and were blocking traffic for about an hour. The first tow truck to arrive was unable to move the car onto the flat-bed because the transmission was stuck in park and would not go into neutral so another tow truck was dispatched with a dolly. Our safety was at risk because we were stuck in an immobile car in busy highway traffic. A police officer arrived to help direct traffic around our disabled car. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and has not been inspected as of the time of this report.

- #11614734September 15, 2024VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, STRUCTURE:BODY, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was parking the car at a low speed (2mph) when it suddenly accelerated with a great speed, jumped the curb in front and moved forward and up a small hill. The car collided with a tree before I was able to stop it. All ADAS features were activated in the car and no alarms sounded prior or during the event, which lasted between 1-2 seconds. The vehicle was inspected by Mazda and deemed safe to continue to operate. The dealer did not find a cause for the malfunction and suggested external influence. The inspection took about 3hrs, which included addressing multiple recalls on the vehicle. At time of incident I have owned the car for about two months and did not experience similar issues, however others did according to my web search. I found reports on popular forums describing sudden acceleration of Mazda CX-90 vehicles.

Driving between 30 - 40 mph on a strait road with no obstacles in front or along side the emergency braking engaged for no apparent reason at all! This has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle, there was a recall to update the software but the problem still exists intermittently! This is a very serious safety concern to have an all of a sudden unexpected hard braking action when the road is free and clear!

I took delivery of this car about a month ago from the dealership in Kansas. On my way home to Grand Rapids, Michigan I noticed that the driver side rear view mirror was vibrating severely to the point that the image in the rear-view mirror is blurred. This is during daytime driving, at nighttime this issue severely impacts safe driving as I am unable to locate the type of vehicle accurately. Mazda seems to be aware of this issue since 2023 and have been trying to address it through TSB's indicating the dealers to replace the mirror glass. I have taken my car to my local Mazda dealer in grand rapids Michigan, and they have performed the latest TSB on the car, but the mirror continues to vibrate although less than before but still presenting a safety risk while driving. Per the latest conversation with the dealership, Mazda is still continuing to fix a better fix for this issue and I am asked to keep checking each month.

- #11610478August 23, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I was traveling at 40mph on August 14 when the engine stopped running suddenly and without warning. I lost all power. I tried pressing the gas pedal and the engine shuddered and sputtered with the speed ranging from 0 mph to about 18mph with no steady duration longer than a second or two. At the same time an engine icon appeared and a message displayed reading engine malfunction. I safely exited the travel lane despite having very little power. I waited 10 seconds and restarted the car and everything worked fine. I called the dealer explained the incident and to made arrangements to have the vehicle serviced. The appointment was for Friday. When I asked whether I should continue driving the car. I was told that so long as the engine icon was not flashing the car was ok to drive. The next day I started the car and did not see any warning message or engine icon. I thought all was ok so I cancelled the appointment. A second incident occurred later in the morning. I called the dealer again and was told to bring the car in that afternoon, Thursday. On the way over to drop off the car a third incident occurred with the same characteristics as the first two. Each time waiting 5 to 10 seconds restored power to the car. One week later the car was returned to me with the diagnosis of low fuel pump pressure problem. I am wary of driving this car on any trip especially on a speed highway for fear this situation will occur when I am driving at 70mph. I appreciate your taking the time to read this description of a very scary and unnerving situation that no one should face.
