My car has an oil leak from the timing chain cover gasket that was discovered by an independent mechanic at 37,465 miles. The dealer confirmed the leak on June 14, 2024 during a recall replacement of the fuel pump. The repair is very expensive and the car is no longer under warranty. This is the second occurrence of this same issue. The first occurred in April 2021 at 24,192 miles and was repaired by the dealer under warranty. There were no warning lamps or messages of the problem but there was oil on the ground where I park. The car is available for inspection. An internet search confirms that this is a known and common problem with the Lexus RX350 (and specifically the 2017 model) for many owners with some occurring more than once as in my case.

- #11612488September 4, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
My RX350 experienced malfunction of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Messages regarding the malfunction of the ADAS first appeared around mid-August 2024. Upon inspection during the week of August 27 2024, the Lexus dealer, Akron-Canton of Lexus, indicated that the malfunction was caused by rats chewing on the soy-based wiring. The dealership replaced the wiring at a cost of $1,295.10. This is a problem caused by faulty design and inappropriate parts and design. It is inconceivable that car parts would be made of animal food. This put me and my family at serious risk of accident, as my reliance on warnings was severely compromised. Lexus needs to immediately replace the soy-covered wiring with something that is not edible by rodents or any other wildlife. In the interim, an equitable solution would be to reimburse the actual costs as well as compensate for the risks thrust upon drivers by their reckless use of inappropriate material. The repair invoice is attached.

I bought this car in March 2020. We took it to the Kingsport, TN Lexus dealer Sept. 14, 2020 for several warranty issues and a recall factory interior front door handle replacement. Today, 9/3/24 the front driver’s side interior door handle broke and the door cannot be opened from inside the car. Called local dealer who said that it was guaranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles. I find this completely unacceptable. I am [XXX] and have driven cars for over 40 years and I have never had a car handle break. For this handle to basically last four years is unacceptable and unsafe for any Lexus driver. At this point I question as to whether the repair was actually made. If in fact replaced, I am shocked by the lack of quality in a repair that was to have fixed a serious issue. Driving a car when you cannot open the door is not something I recommend to anyone! I have called Lexus National customer service and they have opened a case. I do plan to have this repaired and I do not plan to pay for what I consider to be very low quality part replacement. When checking the emergency SOS function in my car I found that it did not work. I called Lexus support and was told that the following safety systems would no longer be operative: Lexus Enform Safety Connect including Automatic Collision Notification; Enhanced Roadside Assistance; Emergency Assistance Button and Stolen Vehicle Locator; Lexus Enform Remote including Remote Engine Start/Stop, Door Lock/Unlock, Vehicle Finder, Guest Driver Monitor, Vehicle Status and Alerts, Key Fob Remote Start, and Integration with Alexa and The Google Assistant; Lexus Enform Destination Assist including 24-hour live response center agent; Lexus Enform Service Connect including Vehicle Health Report, Vehicle Alerts, and Maintenance Alerts; These include safety systems that I rely on, especially when driving on interstate highways, and were included when I purchased my car. I had no warning that the services would cease to function in October of this year. Lexus states that these systems will no longer function because telecommunications providers will no longer support 3G service. This is certainly a safety issue for me and for other drivers and I believe that Lexus should be required to modify the hardware/software in these vehicles to function in a 4G/5G environment. Lexus representatives state that Lexus has no plans to correct these safety issues. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter as a highway safety issue.

Upon parking after 20-mile drive, severe leak of transmission oil from transmission oil cooler area, no warning messages/lights or fault codes present. No evidence of leak at starting point for drive, was sudden failure internal to transmission cooler with no evidence of impact/vibration damage or corrosion; failure was perhaps at welds of fins to tubing. Leaking oil creates fire and slip hazard, lack of any kind of warning to driver would have allowed continued driving until transmission failed except for luck that this was short trip. Vehicle has never been damaged in a crash, has been carefully inspected and maintained since purchase new. This is not a wear item and should never fail without external damage or corrosion, certainly not at 45,000 miles. Difficult to believe that this anything other than a manufacturing defect on this early production (VIN ending 002034) vehicle. Repaired by Lexus dealer with Lexus covering half of cost as “goodwill” (cost to me at ~$1,050 incl. towing), although dealer attempted to return vehicle without having reinstalled air duct and lower shroud.

The sunroof of my 2023 Lexus SUV had a defect and shattered/exploded outwards due to a defect in the tempered glass while driving on the highway. The glass shards fell from the sunroof and cut my face while driving. I had to have a nurse remove the glass shards from my face. Fortunately in this scenario, it did not cause me to lose control of my vehicle on a congested highway. The sunroof defects with Toyota and Lexus vehicles have been documented by several customers online and through several class action lawsuits. The vehicle has been sent to a local Toyota/Lexus dealership for inspection and repair. There were no warnings, messages or other symptoms that the sunroof shattering/exploding could happen.

The hood latch and cable malfunctioned three times in one year. Once in January 2024 (I replaced the latch); once in July 2024 (the dealer recommended to eventually replace the cable, but was able to fix it); and most recently on [XXX] (the dealer identified the cable was faulty and needed to be replaced). The hood would close but not all the way and the hood release had no tension. There was prior warning or symptoms prior to the hood lock failure. All the records for this is with the service department of Pohanka Lexus in Chantilly, VA. I attached the most recent service visit. I took it to the Lexus dealer service center each time. I am getting it fixed this weekend by another service shop (because Lexus charges too much). This was extremely dangerous because if the hood is not secure, it could open at any time while driving and cause an accident, especially at high speeds. There is the potential that if the hood does not lock when closed after it opens, that it could possibly fly open while the car is in motion. * Our 2008 Lexus RX 350 dashboard is cracking: areas of safety concern are the cracks around the ignition switch, the air bags, and the instrument panel. * There are cracks all around the ignition switch which places it in jeopardy of malfunctioning to include releasing dangerous fumes and dangerous fragments (scrapnel), and/or falling out. * The air bags are a grave concern as they may not deploy due to the cracks in the dashboard. * The instrument panel has a backup camera that may also be negatively impacted. There was a safety recall on these dashboards, and Lexus claimed that they were waiting on parts and that we would be contacted. We were never contacted by Lexus, and when we contacted them on several occasions, Lexus told us that they were not going to replace the dashboard. The cracks in my dashboard are extremely serious concerns for my family's safety, which is why this vehicle is only used if there's an in an emergency due to the safety concerns. We live in south Georgia, and the dashboard began cracking / melting as a result of heat and humidity. Lexus has refused to honor the agreement that it made in accordance with its "Warranty Enhancement Program." Our last case number with Lexus is [XXX] on [XXX], and we have not heard back from Lexus' vehicle protection. The numbers that we contacted were 800-448-1505 and 800-255-3987. I was driving down a highway when the sunroof of my vehicle exploded. There were no cars in close proximity, so no rocks or anything were kicked up and could’ve hit the vehicle. It caused glass to fly in my face as I was driving and cut me as well as my autistic son who was in the backseat. A rep at the Lexus dealership said it’s not the first time he’s heard of this happening. There are numerous posts online about the same thing happening to drivers. Temperature change couldn’t have been a factor because it was a cool 80° summer day.
