29 days after I bought a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle started making a ticking noise and stopped accelerating. I called the dealership and they said we didn't get a warranty. I said no that isn't correct, no warranty was offered and after seeing ALL the known engine problems I understand why ken ganley in medina wouldn't offer one. Now not even a month into having this vehicle, I have a brand new 5 year loan and a vehicle that won't move until I put a new engine in it and the dealership won't do anything for me. This is the worst experience I have ever had purchasing a vehicle

In April of 2023 while driving I heard a pop noise and my engine started smoking. A connecting rod had broke in half and went through my oil tank. My 2017 Hyundai Tucson had only 54k miles. I was denied warranty and my vehicle was branded maintenance neglect due to lack of proof of oil change but when I sent the dealership I purchased my vehicle from the all my oil change receipts in August 2023 I was still denied and my car is still branded today without explanation.

The turbocharger on my 2017 Hyundai Tucson 1.6T has failed three times within one year. Most recently, the dealership diagnosed the turbo’s wastegate actuator as being completely open, resulting in severe power loss and unsafe driving conditions. The replacement turbo from an authorized parts supplier is still under a 5-year warranty, and the dealership confirmed there were no oil feed or installation issues contributing to this repeated failure. Component/System Failed: Turbocharger (wastegate actuator stuck fully open). The failed turbocharger is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The vehicle experienced severe loss of power while and also the dealer made me aware there is a valve stuck in the turbo itself and if i drive it it could blow the motor up, which made merging and accelerating unsafe and could have resulted in a collision. The lack of engine power when entering traffic or climbing steep grades put both myself and other drivers at risk. Dealer Confirmation: The issue has been confirmed and documented by a Hyundai dealership service center. This is the third turbocharger replacement within one year for the same vehicle, indicating a potential defect or underlying issue. Warning Lamps/Symptoms: The check engine light illuminated (P0299 – Underboost) prior to the failure. I also experienced significant loss of acceleration and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms began days before the dealership confirmed the wastegate actuator failure. Resolution Sought: I am requesting Hyundai Consumer Affairs review this case due to repeated turbo failures, potential underlying defects, and financial burden. I would like to know what Hyundai can do to address the repeated turbocharger failures and associated labor costs.

The vehicle is currently in the shop due to safety concerns involving malfunctioning exterior lighting and a serious incident of the vehicle entering limp mode. 1) With automatic headlights activated, all exterior lights shut off while driving at night, posing a significant safety risk. 2) During daylight hours, the automatic headlight system inconsistently toggles between different lamp settings, switching off and on erratically. 3) While attempting to turn left during morning rush hour traffic (on a 40 mph road where vehicles often travel 50+ mph), the vehicle entered limp mode upon acceleration. It bogged down in the middle of both lanes, unable to exceed 13 mph, placing me in a highly dangerous position. After pulling over and leaving the vehicle off for 5 minutes, the issue temporarily resolved upon restart. 4) The vehicle is stored in a garage, and following the limp mode incident, I received repeated “door unlocked” notifications every 30 minutes from 2:30 AM to 5:30 AM, though the vehicle had not been accessed. These issues are of serious concern and appear comparable to conditions outlined in Recall #149 and Recall #236, both of which address similar malfunctions related to exterior lighting and powertrain performance. VIN# currently is not within the recalls.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. An unknown dealer was contacted and confirmed that the recall repair parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that the parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure.

I own a 2017 Hyundai Tucson with the 1.6L turbocharged engine. My vehicle is experiencing serious and potentially dangerous engine issues, including knocking, loss of power while driving, sudden engine stalling, and low oil pressure. These problems have worsened over time and now occur regularly during normal operation. The vehicle has stalled in traffic on multiple occasions, creating a significant safety hazard for myself and other drivers. I am aware of an existing recall (21V-727) for 2017 Hyundai Tucson models with the 2.0L engine related to premature engine bearing wear, and the symptoms I’m experiencing appear to be identical — yet my 1.6L turbo model is not included. I strongly believe this issue may also affect the 1.6T engine variant and poses a serious safety risk. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the 1.6L turbocharged engine used in this model year should also be subject to recall due to the same type of internal engine failure. I am currently pursuing diagnostics and have contacted Hyundai to request assistance, but the cost of repair and potential danger while driving remain urgent concerns. Please take this report into account as part of your investigation.

The middle panel of the panorama roof exploded spontaneously while I was driving at 50 mph on the highway. The car shook with the explosion. I pulled over to find a gaping hole in my roof and glass shards resting on the shade. This caused the shade to hammock down towards the driver and passenger seats making it unsafe to drive.

- #11677398July 30, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I’ve had the car for 7 months. Three (3) times the forward collision avoidance (FCA) has engaged (full stop braking) when it was absolutely not necessary. All three times occurred while driving less than 30 mph on city side streets in Houston, TX. On the first and third occasions there was a car in front of me but that car and my car were both slowing down as we approached a red light. My car suddenly slammed on the brakes; I did not hit the car in front nor was I hit from behind. On the second occasion, I was making a right turn and the FCA slammed on the brakes and I was hit from behind. There was no damage to an older model car that hit me. My car had $785 in damage repairs. No insurance claim was filed. After incident #2 ( the one with damage) I adjusted the sensitivity of the FCA to have a slower reaction. It didn’t help as I had a third incident. My make/model will not let me permanently disable the FCA. After incident #3, I have been trying to remember to disable the FCA each time I start the car. I have not reported this to the dealer. I will be bringing the car to the dealer next week for this issue. The date below is for the incident when I got hit.

Engine is consuming 3+ quarts per 1000 miles. There is no low oil warning light or notification, just a low oil pressure light which could be caused by many things that would not cause a vehicle fire like low oil would. Hyundai was contacted and we were told that all we need to do was get our oil changed with them, come back in 1000 miles to check the level, if it was consuming greater than 1 quart per thousand miles we would be scheduled for a combustion chamber cleaning (service tech said this would do nothing to solve the issue), drive 1000 more miles and check level again, and if it was greater than 1 quart per thousand we would be scheduled for a new engine. They were informed that we were the second owner and we were told that shouldn’t be an issue. After completing the oil change and going in after 1000 miles we were told that the engine consumed approximately 3 quarts of oil. That information was apparently submitted to Hyundai and they said we were not approved for the combustion cleaning because we were the second owner. The safety of the vehicle was not taken into account at all and Hyundai did not show any concern of vechile fires even though low oil is a contributing factor to many scenarios that can cause injury or death.

Since I purchased the car in 2018 I took great care of it, keeping the services going on time. But recently in October 2024 even tough I did services the oil service’s sign keep on showing up. I then schedule an appointment with a dealer ship near my area in January and they told me that they were no oil in the car. But I show them the date ans mileage on my stickers I specified that is the reason I am here and to double check for me for filtration because something is wrong, they told me that the car was fine. Days after I had to go in my regular service place for another service and on May I drove the car from Massachusetts to New York and in the middle of the way car start shaking, making noise and when I drove it to a shop they diagnose a failed engine. I left the car in Goshen NY in a Hyundai dealer ship and they told me a valve un the engine was burned and that where the problem came from . They said , they fixed it. A friend pick up the car and 30 mnt driving it police came to rescinde her in the highway, they then told me that’s it’s was a failed engine and days after ask for services record, I provide the last 6 times , they asked me from 0 until today. The shop were I take care of the car don’t keep record from so long. Talking about 2018. They said they won’t fixed it without those record . The car is still under warranty with 71321 miles and I have it for 7 years.

Main dash (with speedometer and other driver notifications) and HUD went black. Blinking "No Signal" on 7/27/2025. Came back on after extended power off, but is flickering in and out when I go over a bump. All warning lights will light up, or the screen will go blank with "No Signal" or restart as if I had just turned on the car. HUD comes in and out. Infotainment is working fine.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the transmission failed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the vehicle was making an abnormal rattling and knocking sound that was coming from the engine while accelerating. The transmission was shaking continuously while driving at 10 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with camshaft and engine failure and needed a cam finish over an advanced timing system overhaul. The contact was informed that the camshaft, CVT, timing chain and tensioner, front valve cover and valve cover gasket, turbocharger, turbocharger gasket, and turbocharger lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
