Front passenger door will not open using the key fob. It has to be opened from the inside door handle. If there was an accident the door would not be able to open from the outside. This is a serious safety issue. There have been numerous issues with this problem. Hyundai should recall these vehicles for this safety issue

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The low oil warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and an oil consumption test was performed. The contact stated that after performing the oil consumption test, the contact was informed that the vehicle was consuming over 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles driven. The contact was advised by the dealer to continue driving the vehicle for another 1,000 for further evaluation. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 110,000.

Van Hyundai Dealership in Carrollton, TX has confirmed excessive oil consumption causing catalytic converter failure that results in the engine stalling and unable to accelerate. We’ve already replaced the catalytic converter once in 2024 because it was full of oil and causing engine failure. Less than a year later (less than 10,500 miles) the same problem was reproduced. The dealership refuses to replace our engine due to the engine defect. This problem directly impacts the engines ability to perform, unable to accelerate on the interstate, and engine stalling which directly impacts our safety and puts our family into a life threatening situation when the engine fails on the highway. The engine has a defect that Hyundai refuses to address. There are no warnings or engine lights that appear beforehand which is extremely concerning and a liability. Hyundai motor company is corrupt. I took the vehicle to the service station because it takes a long time to stop, and I braked close to a vehicle on several occasions. They replaced the brake pads, and when I took the baby in, it was worse. When they finally agreed to let me take the baby in for another inspection, they said they would have to remove and reinstall the parts. Two months later, my baby started doing the same thing.

- #11690183September 28, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
At least 5 times now when no car was breaking extremely close to me or when I gently touched the breaks the automatic emergency breaking kicked in and slammed the car to a stop. Twice the car behind me had to swerve out of the way and hit another car causing 2 accidents without my car being involved. Once it caused me to hit my head on the steering wheel. This function is more destructive and dangerous than helpful. At no time should my car go from 70 to 0 in a second for no reason, but with this it does. Got the car in the March 2025 so 5 times in 7 months.

9/26/25. Friday late afternoon at 5PM. Driving on the Southern State Parkway in stop and go traffic…. the traffic opens up and we start driving to about 10 MPH, with no emergency present and the car did an emergency stop on it’s own. Frightening experience…it’s amazing we didn’t get rear-ended. This is the third time this happened, but I only documented this time. Both horns needed to be replaced three times due to both stopped working and I listed the dates below. First time replacement: 4-6-24, Second time replacement: 10-9-24, Third time replacement: 1-16-25. Now on 9-26-25 both horns stopped worknig again, I checked the horn fuse and that is good. I now need to call the dealer to have both horns replaced for the fourth time. I also contacted Hyundai's national customer service to log a complaint as well. To me this is a safty issue since the horn is used to possible prevent an accident. I check the horns when I drive the car since they go bad so often and I have under 28,000 miles on the vehicle.

Hyunda dealerships are not replacing engine that have been recalled because Hyunda Corporation is refusing to allow the replacements. They are nit picking at reasons to not replace. I believe it because of the number of replacements needed is overwhelming tothe corporate offices and they are picking and choosing on which car get replaced. We have spent thousands of dollars on rentals waiting over months for decisions and there are no loaners available for the customers. I have written numerous letters to corporate has not responded back. The dealership have threaten to get your vehicles removed from there lots if you have been turned down. They have stranded hundreds of customers with vehicles that done run. We need more assistance in rectifying the situation. To know fault of our own we have been punished. Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint to report a recurring issue with oil consumption in my Hyundai vehicle, which I understand is a known problem affecting this particular engine type and model. I am the original owner and have been a loyal Hyundai customer for many years. I have followed all recommended maintenance, including regular oil changes. Despite this, my vehicle has developed excessive oil consumption that has not been resolved through standard service procedures. The dealership has contacted Hyundai for approval to perform a combustion chamber cleaning, but based on my research and feedback from other owners, this procedure does not effectively address the root cause of the issue. My concern is that this problem may be indicative of a broader mechanical defect that could impact engine performance and safety. My 10-year warranty is nearing expiration, and I am worried that delays in resolving this issue may result in the loss of warranty coverage for necessary repairs. I believe this issue warrants further investigation, as it appears to be affecting multiple vehicles with the same engine configuration. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter and consider whether a broader safety investigation is warranted. Thank you for your attention. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that there were metal shavings found on the camshaft sensor. The contact was advised that the camshaft sensor, oil flow solenoid, and variable tee valve were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred 3 months later. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed, with the check engine and oil light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,942.

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson has been chonking out and having acceleration problems. I thought it was because of AC running. When I took it in for inspection my mechanic stated it was misfiring. I am meticulous about routine maintenance (I.e. tire rotation and/or replacement, oil change, inspection, etc), as well as whatever if any repairs are needed. I immediately reached out to my local Hyundai dealer but they never responded. It should be corrected by Hyundai and a recall issued. After researching the issue I see I’m not the only one with a problem. The 1.6 L engine should have been recalled because apparently the same turbo engine in the GDI model was. I have all my maintenance records to support my claim. Come Hyundai!!! I thought you stood behind your vehicles?????

My engine has been burning oil. The engine light has been on for just over the past year because an O2 sensor in the catalytic converter needs replacing, however, this is unrelated to the issue. The oil light started flickering earlier this year (approx 8 months ago) but would never stay on. I called my mechanic and they recommended I check the oil. Sure enough it needed oil. Since then I have had to continuously add oil in between oil changes, however, the oil light rarely comes on or flickers to indicate this need, I just need to check. The engine has been making a ticking sound and that gets louder or worse I have noticed as the engine burns the oil. I have read up on other 2017 Hyundai Tucsons having the same engine failures and that some are covered under recall but mine does not seem to be. My mechanic has informed me that the engine needs to be rebuilt in order to fix the problem. I am worried about the car dying on me or causing an accident because of the failing engine. Yes, this problem has been confirmed by my mechanic.

The engine failed two years ago at 86000 miles. Hyundai replaced the engine for it to start knocking and stop working a year later. I completed all of the first oil changes, slow driving, ect. Seems like an engine problem with Hyundai itself.

To be honest, this could have been happening for months and I just didn’t pick up on it. I typically look out the front window and use my heads-up display. I’m very rarely looking at the gauges while I’m driving down the street so this just happens to be when I began to notice it. 9-4-25 near 4 PM Left side screen where gauges are located blackout -it didn’t last long, but it did frighten me and then it did it again and the second time it did like a restart because it came up with the ready to drive message 9-6-25 10:40AM left side of screen black out 9–16–25 7:13 AM. Left side screen where gauges are located blackout a second time at 7:12 PM 9-18/25 4:45 PM left side of screen black out 9-20 -15 10:45 AM left side screen where gauges are located blacked out 11:24 AM all gauges lit up on dashboard I don’t even know all these signs. These are the ones I recognize battery, brake, auto hold, ready, number of caution signs, airbag sign, AFS, ABS EPB (image uploaded showing the car in drive) I turned off the vehicle. The lights remained on restarting the car made no difference. The next day car started normal no access dash lights Took the car to the dealership on Sept. 23, when I made the appointment, they acted like they had never heard of this happening ...however when they called to discuss my car they said they have had several come in with the same issue. They stated they needed to replace a wiring harness, but it is on indefinite backorder according to the service person. I think his name was [XXX] . They were unable to tell me when they will be able to address this concern. I am concerned this sounds very similar to the Toyota's that are being recalled and if both companies need the same part how safe are these cars from Hyundai to drive.
