- #11693375October 14, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I was traveling on [XXX] in Nashville. There was a motorcycle speed trap on the right shoulder so I moved over to the left. The car in front of me also moved to the left and my car slammed on the brakes and came to a complete stop on the highway. I was badly rear-ended causing $12,500 in damage. This has happened 2 other times to me since then. This seems to be a consistent problem with the 2025 Hyundai Tucson. I'm fixing my car and selling it as I don't feel safe. The safety feature on this SUV. “Take a break” the fact that it blares at you and makes so much noise all the time is so dumb. It can flash all it wants but when I’m traveling a long distance and I have kids or other people sleeping the car and get woke up because it’s beeping so loud it’s annoying. I think the noise should be able to be disabled. I can’t be the only one that this drives crazy.

Vehiclr has been doing this since 4 montbs after purchase, then a recall came out we were told it would fix the problem. 3 times now since the recall the odometer screen and media screen will go blank while your driving. The car wont accelerate, turn signals, and steering colum becomes hard to operate properly. We have had to near accidents 1 being less than 2 hours in August of 2025 after Hyundai just claimed to repair the issue. We were driving on [XXX], screen went out, we lost full control of steering, had to wrestle with the wheel to keep car in its lane, we were almost hit by semi truck and ran off road. We immediately took car back to dealership, and shop assistant mgr was able to see for himself, it wasnt working after theu just made repair. They kept car a few days we were very reluctant to take vehicle back, out of these safety concerns, and my family having to ride in this vehicle. We took ot back as the dealership assured us the matter had been taken care. Then last week on [XXX], in the evening was driving down street and the screens started to flicker and the car wouldnt stay centeryed in the lane, then it happened both went blank, the car slowed down and the fight began on operating vehicle. In regards to no turn signal would go off, it wouldnt accelerate, the steering wouldnt operate correctly, if O wanted to center the car in the lane, it would pull the car another direction. A 7 minute ride home took over 20 minutes. We took car back to World Hyundai Matteson, the next morning and called Hyundai Corporate office to inform them we didnt want the vehicle back. - #11692999October 13, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
The vehicle will continuously pop up the notification “Consider Taking A Break” while driving at highway speeds when using the adaptive cruise control. When this occurs it emits 6-7 audible beeps that distract the driver from the wrong and to look towards the instrument cluster. It was also turn down the infotainment system as well. This feature is unable to be turned off in the settings z it has continuously distracted my driving and made it more unsafe while driving at highway speeds. It makes the adaptive cruise control not worth using which is more harmful for a driver to continually have to accelerate and decelerate.

There is a camera mounted on the steering column that is "supposed" to be a safety feature to tell you when you are not paying attention to the road. It gives you a picture of a coffee cup and says "consider taking a break" along with repetitive beeping. Unfortunately, if you wear sunglasses (mine are prescription), a hat, are too short or too tall it can go off repeatedly. It is extremely distracting and causes you to take your eyes off the road to see what's going on. On a 350 mile trip that I make often, it has gone off for a solid hour every 4 minutes! It averages about 30-40 times in that 5 1/2 hour trip. It also mutes anything that is playing through the infotainment system including directions. I have asked the dealer who says there is nothing they can do and it is a known problem. Hyundai says it is functioning as designed. I have also filed a report with Hyundai. A safety feature that causes distractions is not a safety feature! Also, the emergency braking has almost caused me to get rear ended on a number of occasions. I have been in the process of slowing down or braking when the emergency system kicks in and almost throws me through the windshield. Cars following at a reasonable distance have to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. Isn't this feature supposed to help you avoid accidents, not cause them

- #11692674October 11, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
It’s been three years now and I had “Brake system failure” happened two times in 3 years. When traveling the brake system warning appears and while driving, and stopped at sign brake releases slightly and car would start to move unless I apply brakes firmly again. When slowing down at traffic lights holding the brake doesn’t bring car to complete stop. I had apply brake, slightly release and then apply again until car comes to full stop. I was told they need to replace IEB module and brake pedal module replacement. I checked in Reddit and other platforms where users had seen the issue multiple times on their vehicles. Also had an issue with Fuel system like replacement of Egr valve which seems to be common on multiple Vehicles.

- #11692522October 10, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Vehicle propulsion system failed, as a result vehicle rolled down an inclined driveway in to the street and was stuck in the middle on the street in traffic. Vehicle had started normally, was able to shift into Drive, no obvious warning lights or error messages displayed. Vehicle would shift into Drive/Park/Reverse as required but would not move. Upon shutdown an restart two warning lights were display but Vehicle would still not move. Vehicle only had 168 miles on the odometer. Vehicle is a Hybrid, engine was running and Battery charged. Apparently the problem was a failed "Over the Air Software Update", this was corrected by Dealer (see attached file). Safety issue is that the Vehicle, 1 Failed to display any error regarding a Failed Update, 2 Failed to immobilize the Vehicle allowing to move in an unsafe state, 3 Failed to notify Owner that Updates had been done, 4 Proceeded with an over thew air Update that could potentially place the Vehicle in an unsafe state.

- #11692400October 9, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
In my 2024 Tuscon, Hyundai has connected their cruise control to their driver assistance function. This system includes a camera on the steering column that watches the drivers eyes. If for any reason, they cannot see your eyes they will shutdown cruise control without warning. This can be caused by simply wearing sun glasses. So this forces the customer to choose between two safety features. Cruise control which we all know has signifcant safety implications reducing stress fatique, etc. and bypass all the driver assistance systems. There are people who are putting black tape over the camera and disabling DAS so they can use their cruise control due to the inability to wear sun glasses when heading west (obviously even within a curve, so it shuts down unexectedly in the curve). Surely that is not an acceptable solution. Hyundai should add an option to ignore the eye checks while using the cruise control but so far they have totally ignored it. You can google for "Hyundai cruise control sunglasses" and will see a lot of complaints and people disabling safety features. Obviously there is no specific event, this is happening all the time in the US.

The panoramic sunroof in my 2024 Hyundai Tucson Limited shattered while driving on the interstate. It sounded like an explosion and frightened me while driving. I was able to maintain control of my vehicle, and fortunately, my headliner was closed, preventing glass from falling on me. The flying debris created a hazard for other drivers. I took my vehicle to the Hyundai dealership where I purchased it, and I am awaiting a response from the Service Manager for repair. The vehicle is less than a year old and has less than 9,000 miles on it.

- #11692096October 8, 2025POWER TRAIN, ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The vehicle is experiencing excessive oil consumption and increasingly severe engine performance symptoms. The oil level drops rapidly between changes, but the loss is not due to external leaks. The engine burns oil internally, causing residue buildup and damage to other components — specifically the intake manifold and catalytic converter, which the dealer has now recommended replacing. These issues align with the symptoms addressed in Hyundai Campaign 966 (Engine Monitoring / Knock Sensor Detection System), which is intended to detect early bearing wear and related oil consumption defects. However, the dealership refused to perform the required campaign diagnostics (bearing inspection, KSDS verification, and oil-consumption test) without charging a diagnostic fee. Even though the engine has not yet fully failed or entered limp mode, the excessive oil consumption is already causing secondary damage to emissions and intake components. If left unresolved, this can escalate to engine seizure, catalytic converter overheating, or exhaust-related fires due to unburned oil entering the converter. These are clear safety hazards that can result in loss of power, smoke, or fire while driving. Multiple Hyundai owners have reported identical problems — excessive oil loss, residue damage to emission systems, and dealer refusals to perform Campaign 966 inspections. These patterns indicate a systemic engine defect that leads to downstream component failures, not isolated wear. Replacing the manifold or converter does not correct the root cause, as oil consumption continues after replacement and will likely damage new parts. The dealer’s refusal to perform the manufacturer’s required diagnostics and their attempt to charge for unrelated repairs prevent proper defect identification. This is a serious and ongoing safety issue affecting Hyundai Tucson and other models with the same engine family.

- #11692103October 8, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The following problems began 5 months ago, 8 months after purchase with about 4770 mileage and current mileage of about 7623: Multiple occurrences of Check Engine light coming on, sometimes setting DTC code, but often not setting code. Multiple occurrences of Crash Warning light coming on; It may have set a code or codes, but usually not. I think neither dealer was able to reproduce these 2 intermittent problems. Engine light, so far, has not occurred since it was traced to faulty connectors. As far as I know, the Crash Warning light has not come on since the dealer reduced front camera sensitivity. Also, for the past 5 months there has been intermittent, engine miss, skipping or cut-out. As of this writing it still occurs while driving and will lurch or buck if it happens under acceleration This is not frequent, but it happens erratically and it may happen only once or a few times in one day or several days between. This has not set a DTC code as far as I know; I think the following may be related to the skipping. Once, while coming to a stop, the engine stopped or almost stopped; it bucked when it happened, but continued to run. All warning lights came on for a second or two, then went off, except 3 warning lights and the warning triangle. Although the engine was running, the tachometer and speedometer read Zero. The engine bucked as I slowly drove into a parking lot, then I restarted the engine; it seemed ok, then. About 3 weeks later, while driving at slow speed, just as I took my foot off the brake and was about to accelerate, the engine quit. When the engine quit, the audible Crash Alarm went off with a message saying the engine was not running, press the start button. I started the engine, it did not have normal power. I stopped, restarted the engine and it seemed ok. I have been to the dealer several times because of these problems; dealer is still troubleshooting the last incident. This could cause an accident, especially if it occurs at a higher speed.

I bought this car with 85,000 miles on it and at 94,000 miles i began hearing a knocking sound in the engine, even with completing the first two oil change intervals within my ownership. no check engine light or warning signs came on, even with the knock sensor update. the engines performance declined immensly, acting as if it was going to seize, and burning through 1qt oil/500 miles with no leaks. i had to continuously buy oil to keep the oil tank full, as no dealerships near me had any availability for 3 months from the time i called, to the time i got into an appointment. i took the vehicle to the dealership to have the engine replaced under class action warranty. the dealership took 4 months to replace the engine, the first 2 denying approval until it was inevitably approved. during those 2 months i was not provided with a loaner car, and due to my age i was unable to rent a car. i still had to continue to pay a car payment and insurance on a car that was undriveable. hyundai cooperate would go 5/14 days at a time without contacting me, even with me calling everyday to try and get an update. there was not any clarity, communication, or updates on the process. once my engine was replaced my catalytic converter had clogged due to the pervious oil burning issue prior to the engine replacement. hyundai told me the engine and exhaust system have nothing to do with each other, and the only thing they could do was have me replace the part with an oem part (a 5k replacement) and we could “file for reimbursement” but there’s no guarantee i would be reimbursed. i have been put out of thousands of dollars and the ability to drive my car for 6+ months due to hyundais negligence of this known issue. i can not get out of my loan as i owe on it more than the car is worth so i am stuck with a car i don’t feel safe in, and has continuous issues that compromise safety. this company needs to be seriously looked into and held accountable.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power and was unable to accelerate above 35 MPH, prompting the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the engine knock sensor and catalytic converter. The contact was informed that the vehicle was consuming an abnormal amount of engine oil. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was provided with Goodwill assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.
