Our 2016 Honda Pilot Elite sputtered as we tried to accelerate and then the engine died. It is available for inspection upon request. The engine stop unexpectedly while driving limiting control of the vehicle. The problem has been reproduced for an independent service center. The Honda service center, and two independent service centers are unable to determine the cause from the vehicle codes. There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms prior to the engine dying.

This issue has to do with the Auto Engine Idle Shut Off feature. While the issue does not happen all the time, but when it starts to happen, I have to turn the Auto Engine Idle Shut Off feature off. I have not found a way to reproduce the issue on demand, which is why I have not taken the vehicle into Honda. It would be a waste of time and money. I bought the vehicle used and the battery was new when we bought it. The first time it happened, we were traveling to the beach. We had already driven about 1.5 hours on the interstate without stopping and then we got into a lot of stop and go traffic due to an accident. The Engine would cut off like normal after coming to a complete stop and having my foot on the break. When I took my foot off of the break, the engine sounded like the vehicle was trying to start, but was sluggish. It sounded like it was a bad battery issue. I had to place the vehicle in park, then press the start/stop button to turn the vehicle off with my foot on the brake, then press the start/stop button to start the vehicle. The vehicle did not have any issues starting. After a few times of this, I replaced the battery even though Advanced Auto Parts said it tested fine. I did not have the issue for 4 or 5 months after that. Then it started happening on occasion again. I have taken it back to Advanced Auto Parts and the battery tested fine. Another scenario was just today where I had been driving for about an hour on the interstate. I got off the interstate and shortly after getting off the interstate I was stopped at traffic light. The Auto Engine Idle Shut Off feature activated. When the light turned green, I took my foot off the brake and the vehicle would not even attempt to start and the shifter changed to neutral automatically. I tried to start the car and it would not even start. I had to put the vehicle into Park, then I was able to start the vehicle without any issues. I plan to take the vehicle in to test the battery, but have not yet.

Bent rod in the engine. It has been recalled for other VINS but not ours. Clearly the same issue that the recall is for

If there is rain, snow, fog, moisture or salt from the roads builds up or collects on the emblem of my pilot, I get a warning saying something to the effect of “ Some Driver Assist Systems cannot operate clean area shown”. This is quite dangerous when you live in the Midwest snowbelt. You can’t always pull over and clean it. The system will repeat the message even after acknowledging the issue, if it clears itself or improves, which is equally alarming.

Door locks do not respond. I will use the driver unlock button on the driver door panel, or sometimes by key fob, and the driver door will unlock, but the passenger (with less frequency than rear) and rear doors will remain locked. Sometimes they will all work. Generallly it’s the rear doors. Very intermittent and hard to reproduce. They tend to stay locked until I power the vehicle off.

‘23 pilot will signal an alarm stating I have an unsecured passenger in my middle row (while my passenger is properly secured via the seatbelt). If my passenger pushes or jiggles the seatbelt at the clasp (where is latches together at the seat), it will turn off for a moment and then begin again. I’m not sure if this is a wiring issue, sensor issue or defective part, but this seems like a safety issue.

my vehicle had died on the road, i had it towed to the local independent shop that does most of my repairs needed on our vehicles, it was diagnosed with a fuel pump issue, the shop checked for recalls on our 2021 Honda pilot and showed no recalls, i had them replace the fuel pump and repaired the issue, i kept possession of the old fuel pump and when i got the car home and started looking into the issues we were having, i found that there was a fuel pump recall on certain 2021 Honda pilots but our vin # was not listed in that recall, i searched the NHTSA web site and found the recall report on the fuel pumps that were affected and showed all the part numbers associated with that recall, (part 573 safety recall report 23V-858) the fuel pump that was in our Honda had one of the recalled fuel pumps in it,(part #17708-Tz5-A11-M1). Honda will not help with this issue because our vin# was not listed or included in the recall. not sure what the next step is other than filing a complaint here.

To whom it may concern, My name is [XXX] . I hope this message finds you well. I am writing this message with a heavy heart, to advise of our story that is ending with a tragic experience. On [XXX] my wife, [XXX] , and I, walked in a Honda dealership. We drove away confident about our new vehicle, a 2016 Honda Pilot. It was highly recommended by the salesman. Since then, we have maintained the vehicles services. Sadly, on Saturday, [XXX], the vehicle malfunctioned and engine stalled on the highway. The steering wheel locked, the vehicle would not accelerate, and the brakes failed. I managed to pull over, but we were terrified and stranded for over forty minutes. The vehicle was towed home, and we contacted the dealership, who agreed to inspect it. It was taken to the service center in early December and has remained there since. The certified Honda mechanics' diagnostic report confirms issues consistent with online Honda recalls. As this is our only vehicle, this situation has created significant hardship for our family. Our dream of owning a Honda has unfortunately turned into a nightmare. Honda corporate has denied our request for any and all assistance. We would be most grateful for any assistance you can provide. I just had my Pilot serviced for the recall and during that service I had them check the windshield water solvent system since I ran out of washer fluid on Friday [XXX]. I was driving in heavy traffic on [XXX] in Michigan on my way home from work when I was trying to keep my windshield clear to see from all the salt spray from the truck in front of me when I ran out of fluid. I had to pull to the shoulder of the highway and put snow on my windshield to see again. I had the dealership (Honda of Grand Blanc) check to see if maybe I had a stuck float or something since I did not receive any warning of low fluid. After the tech at the dealer did a bunch of checking with Honda they found that my Pilot does not have this feature. This is also the top of the line Elite trim and it can not tell me when I am low on fluid.. This is a major safety issue. Here in Michigan in the winter all road commission and city Transportation departments use salt to help clear the snow and ice. How is it safe to drive in those conditions when I dont know if I am low on fluid. I have been driving since 1980 and every car or truck I have driven has had a low indicator warning somewhere on the dash. If my car has to have a rear back up camera, TPS etc. How can it not have low washer fluid notice. If you are wondering why I did not notice this before, I drive so many miles that at each oil change they fill it up. I did have them check it the last time it was in for oil in Nov. but they thought the float stuck. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at approximately 50 MPH, there was an abnormal metal-on-metal sound in the lower engine. The driver pulled over safely. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: RQ24013 (Engine). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who discovered metal shavings in the oil pan. The contact called the local dealer, who recommended an engine replacement because there was metal in the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and confirmed there were no associated recalls on the VIN for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The valve cover gasket spool valve is leaking oil. Oil appears to be leaking on the alternator causing it to short and die. There is a Honda service bulletin 20-023 which shows 2009-15 pilots having this problem. However, Honda has declined to cover my repair saying my VIN is not covered and my warranty is expired. Sad

My 2017 Honda Pilot in 4/2023 I was driving the belt way my hood was bouncing as if it was going to fly off an kill us all and who was behind us in rush hour traffic. I called made appointment with dealer. My son went on line there was a recall for 2017 Pilot for hood problem, but not my Vin # I was very very upset. I was told it was fixed when I was there last. I told the dealer if they didn't fix it put it in writing. So my family will know what happen to us if that hood came off. Now my Pilot has been jerking sputtering when I take off it's been going on about a year. I keep putting it off until. I was almost hit in the back trying to get on the beltway, everyone screaming. So I check the recall list Guess what there is a recall on the 2017 Pilot but not with my VIN #. Sometimes, my auto start won't work. My dash radio will go black for a minute, so that's and electrical issue. We are going to have a problem if my grandchild can't watch here movies on the monitor when we go for a ride. Why is my Pilot having the recall issues and not on the recall list? I looked up recall for 2017 Honda Pilot there is one for Fuel Pump please add my Pilot to the recall list please. I love Honda's my whole family does, I hate to have to change.

The sun roof shattered without provocation while driving in the interstate. Glass showered in the cabin to the driver, front passenger and floor in the back seat. Temp outside was between 55-57F. Inside cabin heat in system was at 69F. Seat warmer were on. It was raining at the time of incident between 2:30-3:15pm. I (driver) was very shaken by incident but did not lost control of steering. Initially could not correlate explosion like sound to location. Thought it was in rear of car but upon feeling rain and recognition of glass in the cabin realized it was the sunroof. Vehicle was at around 60-65mph in 70mph. This is memorable as GPS send notification of speed checks on zone prior to incident. Car in front was very far ( more than 10 car lengths) in two lane road. Car in rear was also at about 2 car lengths. Not reported to insurance as deductible is higher than cost of repair. Did not reported to police as no other vehicle involved and no loss of vehicle control. Definitely a safety risk. Both passengers were wearing glasses, and long sleeves due to weather and glass was all over driver and Passeger. Explosion sound was terrifying and unsettling. No warning lights or sounds noted prior to the incident. Car had been driven the day before. Car is always stored in garage. This was first drive of day for car.
