ENGINE
Honda pilot with start stop system will shut off the engine when possible. In some cases the car will shut off and. Or restart and flash various warnings on the dashboard. Only way to fix is wait some time and shut off car and restart. This is dangerous as this happens randomly when highways and local roads. And it takes time to get the car restarted and the engine restarted in those cases. I went to the Honda dealer to get a recall around start stop, the dealer said this would fix the issue, but this issue is still happening. There are no other issues with the car.

ENGINE
Vehicle stalls when trying to go after stop when auto start is engaged. Auto start must be manually disengaged and sometimes I forget to press the button. When the engine stalls, people behind me get angry and start making aggressive maneuvers to get around me. Normally I can restart the engine after 15 to 30 seconds but it feels longer than that when I have a long line of cars behind me.

ENGINE
Brought vehicle to stop on a hill at a traffic light intersection. Auto Start/Stop activated, shutting engine off. When releasing the brake the vehicle did not restart. Placed foot on the accelerator, there was no response. The vehicle then started to drift backward down the hill toward other vehicles stopped at light. Slammed on the brakes. Had to restart the car manually with the push button starter switch. Vehicle was able to start and move under its own power.

I was stopped at a stop light with my auto-idle system engaged. When the light turned to green the auto-idle would not disengage leaving me stalled in traffic. When I pressed on the gas I got an error message about the 'anti-collision system' being offline. I had to restart the car to resolve the issue. The dealer/service center states no known issues.

SERVICE BRAKES, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
There have been a total of 11 (since 2020) incidents when I applied the brakes they did not engage fully and the SUV surged forward 2 feet and the engine was still trying to go forward even with brake pedal to the floor. I have had it looked at the dealership but they say nothing is wrong. They said the battery was not talking to the brakes and I got a new battery but the brakes are still not dependable. When I apply the brakes they still surge forward 1 - 2 feet the engine revs up trying to go forward. The music CD player works sometimes but not all the time. The brakes do not work all the time. The electrical system did not work - it wouldn't show the dash board. The dealership said they fixed it. Both side mirrors never stays where they are set.

SUSPENSION
The rear subframe is completely rusted out where the trailing arm is attached. I was looking to see if I could purchase a used Pilot on line and maybe do an engine swap and was shocked how common this problem is. Many owners were selling there Pilots for parts because of this problem. I originally noticed this while inspecting the cause of the vehicle swaying from side to side at speeds over 40mph.

At 850 miles on the odometer, the 2023 Honda Pilot ECU failed during normal operation of the vehicle on local roads, leading to a loss of power to engine transmission components, emissions systems, brake hold system, and traction control leading to reduced control and speed over the vehicle. The vehicle has been sent to the dealer for inspection of the OBD warning messages displayed. The driver was unable to operate the vehicle due to impaired speed, acceleration and braking capabilities that accompanied the ECU malfunction. The problem is currently being diagnosed by the dealer at the Keating Honda Service Center in Conroe, TX. The warning messages which appeared included the following while experiencing the ECU failure: Emissions System Problem. Avoid Heavy Acceleration and High Speed. See your Dealer Brake Hold System Problem " Traction Control Problem " Lane Keep Assist Problem " Adaptive Cruise Control Problem "

BACK OVER PREVENTION
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated the rear-view camera failed to display the rearview. The contact then learned that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V431000 (Back Over Prevention), so they took the vehicle to the dealer and had the remedy completed. The camera continued to fail to display the rearview of the vehicle. They returned the vehicle to the dealer who then diagnosed that the camera had failed. The camera needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired a second time. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

Our 2019 Pilot has experienced intermittent stalling at lights since 2019 and the incidents have occurred more frequently in the past few months (multiple times per week). It has been taken exclusively to the dealer since purchased and for years, they said they were unable to duplicate it. Last service was 08/2023 and Sheehy Honda of Alexandria, VA stated that they duplicated it and fixed it (by resetting codes). Six days later, the stalling began again. I believe it's related to the Auto Idle Stop function. Yes, it's available for inspection. This puts us and others at risk when the car suddenly stalls and stops at a busy intersection with people lined up behind us, not expecting to have to brake. It requires putting vehicle in park, turning it off and restarting engine. It has not been inspected by anyone except the Honda dealer. Warning lights come on when this happens, as it's dying....collision mitigation, battery, and this has been told to the dealer. I recently read online that turning off "Auto Idle Stop" helps and this seems to be true.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
While driving on two lane roads and roads with left turn lanes, the "BRAKE" warning comes on almost every other on-coming car. Most instances it just the warning light and sound, but every once in a while the automatic brakes are applied by the system momentarily at times. This became worse on a highway while driving in the left lane and passing a truck that was in a left turn lane, the system braked immediately and without prior warning, nearly causing a rear end collision by a vehicle behind. This occurred twice on a recent trip. Went to the Honda dealer and they informed me the only thing they can do is set it to the closest setting or turn off the driving assist system.

Last week, my wife was picking up our 2 year old son from daycare in our 2020 Honda Pilot. She secured him in his car seat and placed her purse with the Honda key fob on the back seat and closed the door. The car somehow locked itself between the time she closed the door and attempted opening the front door, leaving my son locked in the back seat. The key fob battery had just recently been replaced so we are certain this is not a matter of the key fob battery being low. We needed to call the fire department to come and emergency open the car for us. Today, we did have a second key fob made at Honda for our vehicle so that we have a spare in the event this happens again closer to home. We are hoping to be reimbursed for this cost and the "diagnosis" fee we are being told by Honda Customer Support we need to pay for in order to diagnose what the issue might be. This is a MAJOR safety concern that Honda needs to review IMMEDIATELY. The key was inside of the vehicle while the vehicle was not on or in motion.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
On Friday, August 18th, 2023, I started up my 2021 Honda Pilot EX and all safety system warning lights (ACC, LKAS, CBWS, etc) came on. I called Metro Honda Montclair and a service advisor asked me to bring the car in to them as soon as possible. I asked if it was safe to drive, and he said I honestly do not know, but if you can drive it, I advise you to take the slow lane and avoid the freeway. They kept my car over the weekend, and on Monday August 21st, 2023, Dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective multi-purpose camera. These cameras are on back order until October. They said multiple codes came in in the diagnostic but they will have to start with this. I asked if I can safely drive the vehicle since the Brake System light is on, and they said "honestly we cannot tell you that it is safe, it could be something minor, or something indicating a bigger problem. The first time this happened, it turned on, and off, and the dealer couldn't duplicate it, they told me to bring it back when it happened again, and now the "problem with ACC, LKAS, CMS, Brake system, etc., these are the messages currently in the screen: "Road Departure Mitigation Problem", "Auto-High Beam problem", Collision Mitigation System Problem", "Lane keeping Assist Problem" "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem", etc., all these warning messages keep popping up and does not turn off. Honda should fix this at no charge since it impacts safety related functionality. Also, there is a water leak from under the steering wheel, water lands on my foot and in the front seats floor mats when I wash my car. [XXX] with Metro Honda Montclair said they couldn't duplicate this issue. I have pictures of all the dashboard warning messages. I showed them to the service technician. They suggested I look for alternate transportation until my car is fixed, but I do not have other vehicle and I have to transport my kids to 3 different schools, and drive to/from work daily. July 21,2023 Pulled of highway and car went idle at a light car turned off completely and didnt turn on car turned on after 2 minutes. August 13, same situation happened car didnt turn on for 3 minutes. In May car was serviced forr idle recall and I never had this issue until now. The dealer says its a weak battery. But it only happened when it was on idle and not when I turn it on. I had kids in the car and just got off highway. I could have had an accident. The 2nd time it happened it said to put the car in park and restart the car. There were no issues prior to the failure.

Auto-stop failed to restart the engine when stepping off the brake pedal after it had engaged while stopping for a traffic light. Although the car never had an issue with auto-start, the auto-start recall was applied at the same time as the hood latch recall. Since the auto-start fix was applied, the car has had several instances where it seemed at first like it might not start, but eventually did. This failure happened while on a road trip with my family and we were hundreds of miles from home. Sitting in a turning lane off a highway with when your engine doesn’t restart is very scary, especially as you’re trying to figure out the state of your car—while surrounding drivers are reacting to the disabled car in front of them—in order to figure out how to try restarting it. Dealing with a push button start, a push button transmission, all the safeties involved e tween the systems, and an engine that should be running is panic inducing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VISIBILITY/WIPER, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
My rear camera does not work in my car. I received a recall notice regarding this. It was unable to be completed because my Infotainment system is completely non functional at this point. This is an on going issue that I have had with this car almost immediately after purchase. My speedometer also disappears while driving… the screen goes completely black and I have no idea how fast I’m going. It happens numerous times a week at this point.
