Had a indicator light for "Emission System" come on. Used fuel injector cleaner on next fill up and the light went out. Light came on again a few weeks later. Ran another bottle of injector cleaner and once again the light went out. A couple of months later the light can back on and the car gave an audible warning to pull over and shut off the engine and to make sure we were not near an ignition source. After a short time with the car off it was restarted. The "Emission System" light stayed on but the car drove ok. We took the car to the dealer. They checked everything and said that the issue was the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. They told us the parts are on a "National backorder" and they have no idea when they will become available. The car is undrivable and remains at the dealership.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, an abnormal knocking sound was coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was discovered that the engine was damaged due to excessive wear of the connecting rod bearing. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic and the failure was verified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

I was driving on the highway and I heard this loud noise above my head. After the loud sound happened, I wasn’t sure what had happened. While still driving it sounded like the sunroof came open by itself, so I slid the summer roof cover back and the sunroof was shattered. There wasn’t another vehicle driving close to me. Honda asked me to take to a Honda dealer repair shop to get it inspected. I was told they could inspect it but there is no way they can tell if it was defected or not because the glass is already shattered. This is not good. I could have had my cover open, and possibly all cut up from the shattered sunroof.

The entertainment/audio/entire media system malfunctions after 25 minutes of driving, causing extremely loud static that gets louder and louder to the point that you can’t hear yourself think. After several minutes of static the system sound dissapears and cannot be turned on until the vehicle is left off for an underground amount of time.

At 103,000 miles, the 9 speed transmission failed while driving, resulting in a warning indicator to park the vehicle immediately. Afterwards, it was unable to change gear from Park. There was no accident or prior issues. A trusted mechanic shop went thru the documented diagnostics and found that the entire transmission needed replacing. The total cost to replace it was $8265.

Hello, Twice in the past two months, my car's engine has lost power while driving on the highway. First, while entering and merging onto the highway, and once while exiting the highway. Both times, the check engine light came on, pressing the gas pedal had no effect, and we could only coast to the side of the road. Both times we had to restart the vehicle. After the first incident, I went to the dealership. They "fixed" the vehicle, replacing gaskets that Honda knew might fail but didn't issue a recall (only fix if there is an issue). This obviously did not fix the issue. Thankfully we did not have an accident, but complete loss of power could have been disastrous. I now have to go back to the dealership.

My engine broke and the 2016 Honda Pilot awd engine locked up and the dealership is saying it’s the same issue as the 2016-2019 recall. Also I own a 2008 Honda element awd windshield cracked. The recall for every Honda Element year except 2008. 2003-2007, 2009-2011. That doesn’t make since either. The reason we took our Honda in to the Honda retailer to begin with is because the car kept alerting a message of an “emissions systems failure.” We took it in and found out that we had 3 recalls on our Honda Pilot. They fixed one recall but stated that they “needed parts” for the other recalls. It has been one month and after continuous follow ups they continue to tell us that they still haven’t gotten the parts and are behind in service. This is unacceptable. The retailer believed that we were receiving the “emissions system failure” error message is because of a fuse. They replaced the fuse but the message returned several days later. I am thinking we received the error message because of the “Passport/Pilot MOST FAKRA Service Cables” failure recall that has a possibility to cause “poor, or lost, connections intermittently between the audio display unit and the vehicle cable connector” (Manufacturer recall explanation). I am not entirely sure exactly what is wrong with our vehicle nevertheless the reason for the complaint is that the manufacturer/certified dealership has “failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall” for our vehicle “in a timely manner.” I hope this complaint will get our recalls fixed.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment before the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's wife continued to drive; however, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact believed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

When attempting to start the car's engine by pressing the start/stop button, it takes several times of pushing the button to start the engine and the dashboard displays a keyless start system error. There is a tech service bulletin for 2016 and 2017 models of the same car providing an extended warranty for customers to get free start/stop switch replacement. I took my car to a dealer and and they reproduced the problem. I was told it was not covered under the warranty. Why did Honda provide warranty and free replacement for previous model years but not for 2018 model that had the same problem? Please advise.

incident March 5th, 2023 speed approx. 30 M/hr when my MID lit up "PUT IN PARK" my Pilot slowed down on his own gas and brake pedal were frozen I heard some scraping and crunching noises and steering wheel was hard to move and engine shut off. That afternoon (Sunday) I made an appointment with Arrowhead Honda, 8380 W. Bell Rd., Peoria, AZ 85382 to bring the car in. AAA towed the car to the Honda Dealer. After 45 Min. Techn. Divac Aodisho advised me they could not find anything. And I drove my vehicle home. This sounds familiar with the recall I found from NHTSA today. I made an appointment to have the fuel pump impeller checked on 01/19/24 but just now I was called and told the parts will not be available until March 2024 appointment is cancelled. So now I'm driving a vehicle that is not 100%. A 2nd similar problem happened [XXX] and a Diagnosis was preformed on my Pilot for $ 160.00 with again no problem found. Would you drive a car that is not 100% ? I don't have a choice and I was told by the Techn. Mr. Grant today "well you have been driving it for 5 Years" that is not very comforting. The vehicle was driven by my [XXX] daughter and at @ 6 pm on [XXX] the engine was making a noise and that the car was starting to slow down and stall,so she called me. She pulled over and shut the car off and then all the dashboard lights started to blink really fast. The car started to smoke from the engine, she got out and called 911. 911 said they would send a tow truck. within a few minutes sparks were coming from underneath the engine and then the fire started. she called 911 and myself again to report the car was on fire. Thank God she was away from the car. The tow co. arrived first, then first responders, then myself. The highway was shut down to put out the fire. Our daughter was hysterical and the car is a total loss. We waited until the car fire was extinguished. The first responders offered medical attention, but she just wanted to go home. There is a current recall for this make and model, but not the year. What my daughter described, sounds like the current recall from Honda for other makes including the Pilot. I posted on social media and a few people reached out to say their 2017 honda pilot had a similar issue, but thankfully no fire. This recall is very serious because they are replacing the engine for owners. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The connecting rod bearing has gone bad resulting in slippage and engine rod knocking. The bearing has gone bad because the crankshaft was manufactured/machined out of proper specifications per Honda America. The problem in question is already posted on the NHTSA website. “Engine Damage from Connecting Rod Bearing Wear” The noise occurred while driving to North Georgia with seven people in the 8 passenger car. Once we heard the knocking we immediately pulled over, 115 miles from home. Further driving could have caused the engine to seize, slip, or explode. The problem has been confirmed by both a certified master mechanic at the Honda dealership as well as an independent mechanic who worked for a dealer for a number of years. Yes the 2016 Honda Pilot has been inspected by the certified master mechanic at the dealer. There were no warning lights that came on until the time of the noise. Once the noise was apparent the oil lamp, check engine light, and other warning lights began to flash.

- #11565911January 17, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, STEERING
Today, the same problem with my car reemerged immediately after I collected it from the dealership, where it was supposedly repaired for this issue. Upon driving away, making three stops, and using both the Brake Hold and Engine Idle-Stop features, I encountered the same malfunction, leading to the flashing of all warning indicators. Alarmingly, the parking brake engaged on its own at traffic signals, and the car wouldn't turn off even when this issue was occurring. Previously, I had provided the dealership with a detailed description and photos of this issue. They identified the cause as an improperly installed rear wheel speed sensor, which they claimed to have fixed and reset the error codes. However, the problem persisted right after I retrieved the car. I immediately returned the vehicle to the dealership. The car was still not turning off, and while they noted the issue, I am skeptical about their technical ability to diagnose and solve the problem effectively. I urge Honda to promptly address this issue in collaboration with the dealership and to initiate recalls to prevent potential severe accidents. To replicate the issue, toggle both the Brake Hold and Engine Idle-Stop features in various combination, and drive at a speed of 35-40 mph with 4-5 stops of around 30 seconds each toggle combination. When the issue reproduces, All the warning messages will illuminate, and the parking brake will engage automatically. I suspect the drive controller getting reset due to some electrical tripping when brake hold and/or engine-idle stop is toggled which is causing a cascade of failures.

The gas tank has a leak. This could result in a fire and is environmentally detrimental. Both a Honda dealer & and independent service center has verified this issue. This was discovered due to a check engine light.

2020 Honda Pilot had started what was called Juddering by the dealer. Transmission upon acceleration will hesitate and jump hundreds of rpms up and down. I did research and was told also by the dealer Honda had issue with a torque converter within the transmission that I was told a bulletin extended the warranty on the 2017-19 pilots with 6 speed auto transmission. The 2020 I own has the same issue which the dealer confirmed but also told me my vin and model year is not covered. It is the same issue as the 17-19 and I'm concerned for me and my family's safety due to the transmissions' issue. Concern it will get much worse possibly breaking down on a longer highway trip which we will take sometimes 3 times per year.

While driving the vehicle, it would randomly lose power. This has occurred 6 times in the last 7 months. All of them at an Interstate. Each occurrence has happened when the vehicle has been driven 2 or more hours. While driving, all of a sudden the gas pedal would not produce any power. IE. Could be driving 70 mph, then all of a sudden the gas pedal would stop responding. Each occurrence, would have to pump the gas pedal (1-3x). Eventually the power would kick on and the vehicle would go, sometimes launch you as if the gas pedal is being ‘floored’. After which, the vehicle drives normal again. However, there’s no certain moment to know when the power would cease. It could happen at any time.
