Transmission was running hot causing the pilot to have a bad "jitter" when driving. The software had to be updated and transition had to be flushed a few times.

ENGINE
Hi Sir/Madam, Wish you are going well. I own a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring AWD . Recently on [XXX] while i was driving in it with my family to New York airport the engine suddenly started making some noise and before we could pull over the car to the shoulder the engine got fire , fortunately we escaped by jumping out from the car as soon as we were on shoulder. The car was then towed to the service station and after inspection the service station informed that this is a case of engine failure due to crank shaft connecting rod failure. For repair the engine needs to be replaced and the estimated cost would be around $7000. I checked for 2016 Honda pilot recalls and saw this latest recall XG1 and GG0 which describes the same issue . However, my VIN No. does not show any recalls. Request your kind advice as i am not in a condition to afford the repair, the insurance does not cover this and i am stuck as i cannot to go anywhere without car. Is there any way i can get the car repaired free of cost by Honda ? Do i need to file a lawsuit for that? A Recall law suit is possible? Can I include claims for defective vehicle and negligence as I got the vehicle serviced from Honda Service station recently and they didn’t checked/informed for this issue causing fatal safety concern for my entire family. There appear to be more than one issue. When using the auto idle feature, my car will turn off completely. Meaning the engine turns off and it is difficult to restart. I also have issues starting the car from scratch. This has occurred multiple times where the engine will not turn on but other components will. I cannot be jumped or put in neutral as the transmission won't move out of park if the engine is not on. It has been to the dealership multiple times for both issues. A software update was done to fix the auto idle issue, but it has not fixed the issue. i know longer use the auto idle feature. The most recent incident was today.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
While driving and vehicle is in motion, vehicle loses all power, all electrical components turn off and vehicle shuts off. To reiterate, this is not the idle stop power down, this is the entire vehicle shutting off. Last time I was driving at 45 MPH when all power lost. Taking vehicle to dealership for pending recalls this week. No warning lights, no messages on display, just seemingly a random loss of power.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The wheel speed sensor has malfunctioned. Warning lights, messages, and alarms displayed that multiple safety features were not working and that the dealer needed to be contacted. Some of the messages included: Parking Brake System Failure, Cruise Control System Failure, Vehicle Stability Failure, Road Departure Mitigation System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Auto High-Beam Problem, etc... The warnings first appeared on January 8, 2024. The Pilot was taken into the Honda dealership on January 9, 2024. It remains there with no definite time for the problem to be resolved.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN
driving down the highway at 65mph the car started bucking and losing acceleration leaving almost no control to the driver to maneuver effectively and avoid other cars. after a terrifying experience of losing control of the car my wife and children stranded on the side of the road for hours in sub 32 degree weather. the vehicle goes into limp home mode on the highway causing her to pull off with little to no acceleration control. barely avoiding other commuters she was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. once stopped the vehicle locks itself in park and will not go into gear or neutral so the vehicle cannot be pushed when needed. had to have the vehicle towed. after diagnosis and thorough investigations the following information was collected. The 9 speed automatic transmissions are "lifetime" meaning there is no dipstick for fluid checks. no external sensors or actuators can be replaced when they fail. the transmission failed internally (p0841) because all solenoids sensors and switches are internal non serviceable parts. no electronic part lasts forever understandably. however this means when one small item fails the entire transmission is to be replaced with the same part number and no new fixes or remedies. they seem to all fail right around 60,000 miles or after. seems to be a very common issue with no recall or fixes listed. meaning even with a new transmission installation the transmission is still a ticking time bomb. leaving the customer on the hook for several thousand dollar repairs every 60k. a class action lawsuit has been filed in California for these exact reasons and i would hope that honda makes and effort to have a redesign, fix, or full recall.

STRUCTURE:BODY
The doors on my new Honda Pilot have an extremely sharp, hazardous, protruding edge on the lower outer corner at the bottom of the doors. The edge is so sharp, that while exiting the passenger door, it punctured my left leg in my calf on the left side of my shin bone. This required me to have 12 stitches in my leg. The laceration was very deep and exposed my then swollen bleeding inner tissue. The impact forced the outer skin underneath my intact layer of skin creating a V shape like the edge of the door. This required extra time and care to first get the buried skin out so that it could then be sewn back together. The edge was very pointed hard and sharp. There needs to be a protective covering (rounding the edge) so it won't be so sharp. Or adding additional rubber or plastic, preventing it from piercing a leg. In the photos ,it is the black protrusion that is sharp not the white metal on the door. It is a little difficult to see from the photos, but it is a hard sharp black edge that is pointed and what caused the damage to my leg.

As we were driving we started experiencing some slight stalling and eventually started hearing a pitter patter noise as we accelerated. At one point while on the freeway we stalled out and had to pull over almost causing an accident for the person behind us to hit us. This has more recently come up again as we were driving on the road and almost caused another accident. We did take it to two different Honda Dealers and both confirmed that it has to do with the current fuel pump recall. No warnings.

ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Since I bought the car in 2019, Movie CD does not work all the time. Fixed once. Automatic emergency breaking. It does not stop. Have taken it to the dealership at least 4 times and they say they are not able to replicate the problem. Set the cruise speed control and it does not work. Currently not working for over a month. The engine transmission does not stop the car and if it does work the car does not stop totally and car jumps 2-3 feet while foot is on brake. Dealership say they can not duplicate the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact entered the vehicle and the front passenger attempted to secure the seat belt however, the seat belt failed to retract. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

POWER TRAIN
When traveling at highway speeds, I push the gas pedal and the vehicle makes a clicking noise, it loses all acceleration power until RPMs go down to 1,000. Then the gas pedal works again. After several months of this, and multiple attempts from the Honda Dealership to fix the problem (clean the throttle body, software updates, etc) the transmission quit on the interstate. During a 100 mile trip the vehicle all of a sudden would not go above 3,000 RMP. I pulled to the shoulder thinking a car restart might fix the issue but the vehicle would not leave Park. Towed to dealership with transmission warning light active. Very surprised as the vehicle only has 79,900 miles on the odometer.

I bought the car on 11th of November it’s has now 8000 miles today 1/24/2024 all the check engine and warning safety lights came on i went to the Kay Honda dealership to find the problem he says u have to get appointment also I complained at the dealer whom I bought car from about the brakes is not working properly as a new car with no attention mentioning to me cause that’s a big truck so the brakes like that also complained about the axles makes noises when backing like it broken I got pics for the dash board showing the issue

Vehicle audio has a kind of its own, on/off/ up/ down all without touching the screen or buttons. Goes all the way to max volume without warning. Definitely a safety risk when you are not expecting noise at all.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Part number 17700-STX-A11 should be made of rubber or metal. The fuel line is made of an ABS plastic. It is cheap quality and brittle. The fuel line should additionally be segmented. When I spoke to the Honda dealership in Mckinney Tx the service supervisor stated this is a frequent and ongoing problem. I also spoke to a service supervisor at Honda in Frisco Tx who informed me when they order the fuel line it often comes in broken on the freight. The poor quality, brittle fuel line is a ticking time bomb. My pilot was spraying gas risking the life of my family today. The exhaust system could have caught fire. My son noticed the smell of gas before I did as the fuel pump is located directly under the center row of seats. The odor became over powering extremely quick leading to myself, my husband and my children feeling ill.

While I was at a stop sign my car went from drive to neutral on its own. I tried shifting back to drive and it wouldn't work. I put it in park and then it was telling me my car had to be on. I tried pushing the engine start stop button multiple times and finally it started and went back into drive. Autostop was on.

Severe risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. At 5:00 am in the morning the alarm on my car went off by itself and there was no way I could turn it off or even start the car. I finally disconnected the battery to stop the car and later reconnected the battery assuming the issue was gone. When I went back to check on the car later, found that the car had started by itself and the garage was full of fumes. I installed a carbon monoxide sensor in all rooms and parked the car outside. The car now randomly tries to start itself(and all warning lights go on and dash indicates an error with all systems) and when it does start(by itself) there is no way to shut it off except for disconnecting the battery. The car is now at the dealership but a quick google search reveals that this is a frequent issue with 2016/2017 Honda Pilots and a part - 38320-TG7-A420 (remote control unit) needs to be replaced and that this part is under serious backorder nationally (indicating a serious problem). Requesting NHTSA to investigate this issue and part.
