Twice in the past week my 2017 Honda pilot equipped with the auto start/stop feature completely shuts off at traffic lights. Usually it turns back on but it completely shut down and would not restart at very busy intersections. I was very afraid of being rear ended while i was stuck there at the light, and this is a known issue that Honda has yet to address.

The vehicle is reporting an error on the display. "Supplemental restraint system problem. See your dealer" a quick Google search in Honda Pilots forum confirms numerous vehicles experienced this same issue. Seems like we have multiple failures for tge air bag or restraint systems.

While driving on very straight and non-rolling hills the large red words BRAKE will appear on the dash, the brakes will start pulsing and slightly shaking for a few seconds when there is very minimal on-coming traffic. The above has happened several times and first occurred several years ago and at different mileages and different roads

After owning 2017 pilot (brand new) for 3 to 4 years, started experiencing intermittent stalling at stops when auto idle engaged. Similar to many other complaints, car would stall out, entering into an accessory mode. At times takes several attempts to restart the car. Have replaced battery and had the software update related to the issue done at the dealer. However, the issue persists and we now much remember to turn off the auto idle feature every time we start the car, or else we will end up stalled after a stop - usually creating a very dangerous situation and infuriating the drivers around us.

The car's front and back sensors will trigger for no reason. In a drive-thru it'll tell me that I am going to run into something after I've been sitting there for three minutes and not moving. The brakes slam on consistently, this happens at least three times every time I drive the car, as I'm driving down a road not about to run into anything or anyone. It's quite scary, and luckily, I haven't been rear-ended yet, I honked a few times but was not rear-ended. The low tire sensor goes off even though there's no low tire. I checked at several different service places, and all of them say the tire is fine. After It's checked, the light goes off, but it comes back on within a few weeks. There is a bad smell inside the car as if a diesel truck is passing us. it is so bad That we have to roll down the windows to be comfortable inside the car. Even though this recall has been done, I still get a loud popping and cracking on the radio when I'm making phone calls or getting phone calls. I have a son with autism, and I have to stop the car and let him out when it gets really bad. I have video on Google Photos but I am [XXX] and I do not know how to share them from my computer, sorry INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am writing about my 2016 Honda Pilot (VIN [XXX] ). The car broke down in the middle of the road on [XXX], with the engine seizing and not able to start again. The car has only 134k miles and has had all of the recommended maintenances since we bought the vehicle Certified Used from Honda in 2017. There were no lights, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The car had an oil change the week prior to this incident at a Honda dealership, and the car's inspection came back showing no repair needs or problems. We have all of the service records for this vehicle. The car has been towed to the Honda dealership in Thousand Oaks, CA. The dealership has indicated the engine requires replacement due to the number 2 piston not being able to move likely due to the crankshaft failing. This damage has caused a catastrophic failure to the engine, requiring full engine replacement. This seems to fit with a current recall for other 2016 Honda Pilots resulting from a manufacturing defect in the engine's crankshaft, despite our VIN not being captured in that recall. The safety of my 1.5 year and nanny were put at risk due to the car stopping in the middle of the intersection and not being able to start again. From a reading of others' accounts online, it appears that this problem is happening to other people with the same vehicle and their VIN is falling outside of Honda's current recall. The alarm sounded all through the night killing the battery leaving me stranded almost 500 miles from home. Took it to the Honda in Pensacola to be diagnosed only to be told they couldn’t get the part and had to pay a $80 fee on top of renting a car to use while out of town. Then had to leave a day early from our trip (losing money there) because we could not cut the car off without the alarm, lights, and inside going crazy. When we got back home the Honda here said it was the keyless access control unit and replaced it. After researching I have found the is a common issue with the Pilot.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while at a stop light with the Auto START/STOP feature activated, the vehicle did not immediately restart after releasing the brake pedal. The contact had to shift to the park and restart the vehicle manually. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the idle stop module, and the failure was remedied however, the failure later reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 82,000.

The adaptive cruise control doesn't work for the vehicle in front of me but the vehicle on the side. It will slam on the brakes when there is no vehicle in front of me but with a vehicle on the side. Tbsi has almost caused numerous accidents. The automatic braking/forward Collison warning happens when a vehicle is passing me going the oposite direction.

We bought the car online from a Honda dealer located about 450 miles away in Arkansas and on [XXX] we met them in Dallas near the halfway point and they delivered the car It was a one owner with just under 29000 miles, had a clean carfax, title, etc. Over the next 10 days, we put about 300-350 miles on the car, including the 220 miles home from Dallas. On [XXX] we were driving at about 45-50 miles an hour when we heard a sort of "ping" noise, sort of like a tin can dropping, the car began to run rough and a number of message lights flashed on the dash. We had it towed to our local mechanic who drained the oil and cut open the filter and he found metal fragments and diagnosed a thrown rod bearing. We then had it towed to the local Honda dealer who said that was probably correct, but they couldn't diagnose without taking the engine apart. We spent several months talking with the Honda dealer who sold it to us as well as American Honda and in the end they said sometimes things just break, it's not under warranty and repairs were on us. We had the engine replaced with a used engine at the local Honda dealer. Total cost parts and labor $8922. We called American Honda and were told our VIN is not included in the current recall announced in November 2023, but that the recall may be expanded. Side view mirrors started shaking few months after buying car, had them replaced under warranty. After replacement drivers side was so distorted I took it back. They replaced again, still distorted but better. Too, to dealer for service and they replaced again due to recall, mirror is so distorted again i can barely see out it. I see many complaints on forums regarding this. Honda needs to correct this with the proper glass before an accident happens

Automatic braking system failure parallel issue that is same to the accord and other models with the emergency braking system which randomly activated and panic stops and sometimes without an traffic near to car and other times have almost caused catastrophic collisions on highway systems with divided medians causing system to activate.

- #11584117April 19, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The vehicle mistakingly thinks it recognizes an obstacle, and wrongly activates the brakes and forward collision warning. This recently occurred during highway driving with no apparent obstacles multiple times. Also (maybe related) when using adaptive cruise control, rather than adapt to a slower vehicle’s speed in-front of it, the Honda Pilot applies strong pressure on the brakes to adjust its pace. In other cars I’ve driven (Tesla, Subaru, Volvo, Chrysler, Kia) the response is a much more delicate “throttle release”. However, the Pilot mostly applies throttle or aggressively applies the brakes in situations that are very predictable and do not require the brakes to be applied. The result is an aggressive/frantic behavior, not adaptive. I keep the car/safety sensors clean and free of obstacles, decals, etc.

- #11583968April 19, 2024SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS
While driving in the city a warning came up on the dash stating "Supplemental restraint system problem. See your dealer." and the red seat belt/air bag symbol turned on and remained on for the remainder of the drive home (about 45 min at variable speed). As soon as I got home I turned the car off and back on and the warnings disappeared. I drove the vehicle for another 30 minutes and the warnings did not re-appear. However, I noticed that the seat belts used to tighten / lock while the vehicle was in D (drive) but they no longer do. I also tried performing a hard stop in a safe area to see if the belt would lock while my body was jolted forward but it did not. The vehicle had 6 passengers when the warning first came on and all of us experienced loose belts. This makes me concerned about the functionality of the restraint system, especially in the event of a crash.
