POWER TRAIN
The vehicle is still under warranty but it has 25k miles and having transmission problems. Shifting from first to second gear I feel hard shifting , also when you prepare to stop it’s hard downshift again, downshift is more hard than up shifting.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving with the heater activated, an abnormal burning odor was coming from the vents. The check engine and oil warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

We bought this used car for my daughter, then I found out there was issues with the engine. We had it for 6 months and the engine seized as she was driving it on the highway . She got to pull off to the side of highway . We had it towed to our mechanic, hoping it was the battery or something simple . He told us it was a blown engine and there was PLENTY OF OIL AND ANTIFREEZE IN IT . HE THEN TOLD US THE HE LOOKED AT IT AND COULD NOT BELIEVE IT WAS BLOWN , WITH THE OIL STILL IN IT . WE had to buy a new rebuilt engine and pay for the mechanics time . There has been issues with this engine’s. How do we get the engine payed for , with the problem they have . This wasn’t a neglect part on us . I would like to get REIMBURSE FOR THE NEW ENGINE ( rebuilt ) not our neglect, but the way they built the engine / oil pan

Hyundai 2021 Sonata Hybrid. Blown head gasket. Reported 1,000 miles after warranty expired. Car was in the shop for Hybrid battery issues. Repair completed. 2 weeks later smoke coming from the exhaust. Hyundai says blown head gasket - will not honor warranty as I was just a few thousand miles over warranty. Seems to be a common problem with the Hyundai not honoring the warranty.

I was traveling on the freeway when I began experiencing erratic acceleration, around which time the check engine light came on. I took the next exit, and continued to experience the same symptoms, as well as rough idling, and a bit of smoke. The car was towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership where the fuel injector was replaced under warranty.

2017 Hyundai Sonata with 108,600 miles, has experienced oil consumption/burning, since at least 85k miles. Costs outside of manufacturers recommendation: *Oil consumption report ($85) *Extensive engine cleaning ($500) -Hyundai considers 1 quart consumed per 1000 miles, acceptable. *Rod bearing clearance test ($140) **Engine replacement (reason for complaint, will cost $3880) Hyundai dealership most recently stickered oil change at 3,800 miles. At approximately 3,000 miles, the oil pressure light began to flash on/off. I checked the oil, it was low. I called the dealership to ask for advice. They indicated my car was OK to drive to the dealership (40 miles away), for service. On the way to the dealership, on the highway, my vehicle started to experience intense vibrations. My check engine light came on. I had to take my car from ~65 mph down to about 40 mph in a very short time, trying to maneuver in between semi-trucks, going from the left lane to the right shoulder. This was not safe, my engine could have seized. After this, my engine emits a loud knocking sound. Once I arrived, the dealership recorded 2 quarts of oil in the engine. After the oil change, the knocking sound still remained. They indicated they would not recommend driving the vehicle until they investigated the knocking sound. They performed the rod-bearing clearance test, and indicated it passed. With the knocking sound, their recommendation is to not drive the vehicle, and to replace the engine, ($3880 with many reductions in price). They've indicated Hyundai corporate would decline to replace the engine because the tests are not favorable for replacement. I've submitted an escalated case to Hyundai (HMA), to look into this. In short, they have declined to do anything because my VIN, year/model, do not qualify for any extended warranties, or recalls, to require anything to be done. The vehicle is not safe to drive. I've done all maintenance, and am left to suffer.

I leased my brand new Sonata at the end of August in 2022. in November 2022 I was driving on the highway and my vehicle started to decelerate. I stepped on the gas pedal and it just went slow and slower. I was able to make it home but after shutting the car off it would not start again. I had it towed to my dealer and they fixed something with fuel injection. in February 2023 the same thing happened with only 4500 miles on the car except this time my car decelerated so badly I pulled to the side of the road and it immediately died. I had the car towed again and they fixed it again. The car was good for a while but on [XXX] of 2024 the deceleration issue happened again. it did not stall out on me and I was lucky enough to be able to get the car to my dealer to have them do a diagnostic check. They did not find anything. This is baffling to me. I guess I need to break down again for, something to be fixed with this car. my complaint is that while driving my car and if I break down it is unsafe for me and other cars on the road if my vehicle just dies. I do have a job and also like to travel out of town sometimes. I do not feel safe with this car. It broke down twice in the first year so it did not qualify for the lemon law in my state of Pennsylvania. Please provide some information on what I need to do to keep myself and other drivers safe. I was driving down [XXX], about 20 miles southwest of Atlanta when I saw flames and smoke come underneath the hood of my car. I pulled over to the right shoulder and I was able to exit the vehicle before the entire front engine compartment was melted and engulfed in flames. Local FD responded and extinguished the fire. My car has been burning oil, i took it for service at the dealership and all they did was change the oil and tell me to come back in 1000 miles, and to do this 3 times, however before the 1000 miles while driving with other passengers in the car my engine started over heating, i had to pull over immediately, i checked the oil dipstick and it already showed below the LOW line, at this point i am assuming there is no oil left in the engine

I am completing this form because the vehicle lacked the proper equipment to prevent theft which resulted in a wreck and the vehicle being totaled. -The Ignition was affected as it was stolen and the steering column was peeled.
