The auto stop start system semi regularly stalls in the middle of traffic, shutting the van down. This requires a quick power off and restart that doesn't always succeed on the first attempt. This creates a risk of an accident, especially during busy traffic times. The dealer just told us that if it will start up eventually then the starter isn't bad, so there's nothing they can do. This is a known issue amongst Odyssey owners. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership. They don't acknowledge the problem, which is why I'm reporting it here. This is a common issue and nobody is doing anything about it. No warning signs. This has been occurring for several months, intermittently.

At a stop light, car threw a large BRAKE warning and stalled when the foot was taken off the brake. The car then had to put in park and turned off and on again. Having a car die in the middle of traffic, even when at a stop light, is not safe. We took the car to the dealership, where they informed us the starter needed replacement. Prior to this the car has been jerky when coming out of that idle stop feature, but hasn't stalled. The BRAKE warning did flash on the screen earlier that day but the car didn't stall.

Vehicle: 2026 Honda Odyssey EX-L, VIN [XXX] (leased). My prior leased Odyssey (2025) was totaled on [XXX], when its Lane Keeping Assist malfunctioned at highway speed: the steering became unresponsive, the vehicle drifted out of lane, and it crashed into a concrete barrier. I filed NHTSA complaint 11744403 for that incident. That complaint also documented Adaptive Cruise Control surging and a dealer visit that found nothing wrong. This leased 2026 Odyssey has a recurring Adaptive Cruise Control defect. After stopping at a red light with ACC engaged, a light tap of the accelerator to resume has caused sudden unintended acceleration, followed by a loud beep, ACC disengagement, and loss of propulsion. This occurred [XXX] ([XXX], rush hour traffic) and [XXX] (about 5:01 PM, [XXX]). On [XXX], the forward collision warning repeatedly alerted to a vehicle ahead when no vehicle was present. I brought the vehicle to Honda of Cleveland Heights on September 9, 2026 to report these issues; the dealer was unable to reproduce or identify the problem. Sudden acceleration toward the slow-moving vehicle ahead and unexpected loss of propulsion in moving traffic are severe safety hazards. The defect spans two vehicles, which points to a systemic Honda Sensing issue rather than an isolated fault. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The idle stop failed to restart the vehicle on multiple occasions and killed the car in the middle of busy intersections. There is a known issue with the idle stop on late model Hondas and Zimbrick Honda said my VIN isn’t affected yet so I have to pay to have the known issue diagnosed. The problem is hard to duplicate but causes severe safety issues. I have an extended service contract and Honda is allowing unsafe vehicles to continue to operate with a known defect.

Start/stop function failed. After stopping at a red light the start/stop function turned off the engine. After lifting off the brake, the engine died when attempting restart. This required turning the vehicle completely off and back on to continue driving.

The power tailgate on my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L will not stay open sometimes. After it is raised it sags and soemtimes closes on its own, with a beep. This happened mutltiples times over the past year and a few times in XXX where it has closed on my young children while they were near or loading into the vehicle, and it hit me on the head. Nobody was seriously injured, but a heavy tailgate closing on a child's head or neck could cause serious harm. Honda service bulletin 22-018 (XXX) describes this condition and says to replace the right tailgate spring (74981-THR-A01) and clips. Honda has not issued a recall. I opened Honda Customer Care case XXX. The dealer told me Honda needs a paid $250 diagnosis before it will consider goodwill, which I declined. I am concerned this is a safety defect affecting other Odysseys and ask NHTSA to review it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle independently shifted into Park (P). The contact stated that the check engine warning light initially illuminated before the vehicle automatically shifted into Park (P); however, the failure escalated, with the vehicle shifting into Park (P) and shutting off the engine entirely without warning light illumination. The vehicle was able to be restarted following the failure. Additionally, the collision warning light illuminated on the instrument panel, with no vehicles nearby. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The failure mileage was 55,000.

- #11771133October 14, 2026ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
My 2025 Honda Odyssey has experienced repeated intermittent failures of the Auto Idle Stop system. When the vehicle stopped and the engine shut off as part of the Auto Idle Stop function, the engine sometimes failed to restart automatically as expected. The problem began after approximately the first eight months of ownership and occurred multiple times before the vehicle reached 36,000 miles. I reported the issue to the Honda dealership while the vehicle was still within the original 36,000-mile basic warranty mileage limit. The dealer asked me to leave the vehicle for two to three days for diagnosis, but because the problem was intermittent, I decided to monitor it and see whether it happened again. I reported the same issue to the dealer again at approximately 37,000 miles. I was then told that I would be charged for diagnosis and repair. This failure concerns me because the engine may not restart when needed at a traffic light or other stop, potentially leaving the vehicle unable to move when traffic resumes. I do not know the underlying mechanical or electrical cause, and the problem has not yet been diagnosed or repaired. I request that this recurring Auto Idle Stop no-restart problem be investigated. Please review whether it is related to any known Honda technical issue affecting Odyssey vehicles. The issue occurred repeatedly before 36,000 miles and was reported to the dealer before that mileage was reached. I would like this safety concern documented and investigated.

The forward monocular camera mounted on the windshield of the 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite failed, and this single point of failure turned off the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control. A majority of the safety and assist features of the vehicle no longer work.

My 2023 Honda Odyssey experienced a serious malfunction of the Auto Idle Stop system at approximately 32,987 miles. While stopped at a traffic light, the engine automatically shut off as designed but failed to restart when I attempted to move forward. This created a dangerous situation because my vehicle was unable to move when the traffic light changed, potentially putting me, my entire family at risk of a rear-end collision. The vehicle's battery had been replaced only a few months earlier, so this problem occurred despite having a relatively new battery. After researching the issue online, I found numerous reports of similar Auto Idle Stop failures involving Honda Odyssey vehicles. This appears to be a recurring safety concern rather than an isolated incident. To my knowledge, there is currently no applicable recall providing a free repair for my vehicle. I believe this is a significant safety defect that Honda should investigate and address at no cost to affected owners. A vehicle should not unexpectedly fail to restart in active traffic, regardless of its age or mileage. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and determine whether a safety recall is warranted.

Subject: Airbag Deployment After Recall Repair - 2018 Honda Odyssey My 2018 Honda Odyssey received the Honda airbag recall repair in XXX. After the recall remedy was completed, the driver's side by side curtain airbags deployed unexpectedly while I was driving. At the time of the incident, I struck a curb at approximately 25-30 mph. However, there was no collision involving another vehicle, object, or side-impact event, and there was no contact with the vehicle's bumper or body. The tire was not damaged. Fortunately, I was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no children were present. Despite the absence of what I believe would be a qualifying side-impact collision, the driver's side curtain and side airbags deployed. I am reporting this incident because it occurred after the manufacturer's recall repair had already been performed. I will also provide the inspection report from Firestone, which indicates that the front passenger-side wheel alignment was affected as a result of the curb impact. I respectfully request that Honda investigate this incident, review any available SRS (airbag system) diagnostic data, and determine whether the airbag deployment was related to the previously recalled condition or another defect. Please advise if any additional information or documentation is needed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Associated Recall: 26V-423 (Rearview Camera Cable Harness) Description of Safety Defect & Insufficient Recall Remedy: I am filing this complaint to report that the current manufacturer remedy for recall 26V-423 is insufficient due to a related, pre-maturely failing structural component that Honda is failing to address. The rear window seal for the glass sliding door (Honda Part # 73220-THR-A01) on this generation of the Honda Odyssey is made of a defective rubber material. On my vehicle, this seal is prematurely disintegrating into small shreds [Optional: See attached photos]. This degraded seal allows water to seep directly into the rear camera housing area. While the recent recall may have replaced or repaired the immediate rearview camera wiring, the ongoing water intrusion caused by this disintegrating window seal will inevitably cause the new camera components to fail again. Fixing the camera without addressing the root cause—the failing rubber seal letting water in—makes the current recall remedy entirely temporary and insufficient. NHTSA needs to investigate part number 73220-THR-A01 and compel Honda to issue an expanded recall to replace this seal with a higher-quality, weather-resistant material to prevent future safety failures of the backup camera system. I have already reported this issue to the service advisor on Oct 12 2026 at ourisman honda of woodbrige VA and they said they cannot help me with it and recall is not addressing the windshield molding on the rear sliding door of the minivan.

The auto stop/restart failed regularly at intersections. Being stopped at intersections and having to try to restart the vehicle was not safe for us or others at the intersection. The problem was not confirmed by the dealer, but the dealer did say they've seen similar issues with similar models. There were no error messages or warning lights. The dealer has tried resolving this by charging the battery.

My car has shutoff due to an orange system error of the idle auto stop/start system. This appears connected to EA25004. When at a traffic light, after the engine shuts off, my car occasionally fails to restart or is slow to restart when reapplying the gas. If the error occurrs, it requires me to shut off the car, restart the car, and shift into drive before I can move. This is dangerous for following vehicles in close traffic. The dealership was unable to replicate the issue and did not provide replacement parts.
