The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost automotive power. No warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while restarting. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with inadequate fuel pump flow. The local dealer was contacted; however, the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

2025 Chevy Equinox - beginning of July, i got back to my car at the airport and it would not turn on. nothing happened and i had to call onstar with my cell phone. a tow truck was sent and my 2025 Equinox (which i bought end of Oct 2024) with only 8000 miles, was towed to Chevy dealership. the next day the dealership said it was a faulty battery and they replaced it. i went to pick up my car and then a couple weeks later i tried to autostart my car and it did not respond. I called Onstar from my phone to talk with them and then they asked me to go to my car and push the button. it was green however it was not responding. i was told to take it into the dealership and tell them i am having an onstar issue and it wasn't responding. I took my car 3 weeks ago (Aug 11th) sat for 4 hours waiting on my car only to be told that they were not able to fix it. that my entire onstar system needs to be replaced. they said they ordered it but that it was back ordered and do not know when it will be in. and to call in 2 weeks to see if there were any changes. i called 3 weeks later and still they had nothing new to tell me except that they don't know anything. from reading online i see that this onstar module issue had contributed to other issues with the car. i knew that there was an issue that triggered the battery to completely die. and with all the other people that have said they have had issues , it is very apparent that this caused my battery to die. Now i am still paying for onstar but not able to use it. i am obviously paying my payment on my car without being able to use all functions of the car. I am at a total loss on what to do next.

Phantom braking at speed: I have experienced more than one alarming instances of "phantom braking at speed" where the vehicle unexpectedly brakes, all wheels locked, and violently skids on the pavement. This is a very alarming occurrence to driver and passengers as well as to drivers of other nearby vehicles. Specifically, this first occurred without warning on [XXX] on [XXX], traveling at 30 mph. The wheels then unlocked spontaneously after 2 to 4 seconds. This is potentially a significant and intolerable life-safety issue. When a car suddenly and unexpectedly slams on its brakes, it can create a dangerous situation for both the driver and passengers and others on the road. This could lead to a rear-end collision if the driver behind my Equinox vehicle does not have enough time to react; this may also result in Driver panic and overcorrection: The startling nature of the Phantom Braking can cause the driver to potentially swerve into another lane or oncoming traffic. The Phantom Braking again occurred on the afternoon of [XXX] on [XXX] in SLO while driving at 40 mph past [XXX]. Loss of confidence: Repeated incidents of phantom braking have eroded this driver's trust in the vehicle's safety features, which could lead to ignoring legitimate warnings in the future. When you hit the brakes on hurry car don’t stop it rolls and take longer to engage. Was involved on a rear end accident because of saw the car in front stop press the brake and suv just slow down but keep rolling forward.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
they have the gear shift stick near the wheel like older models. you have to brake to move the gear shift and push a button in on the gear shift to park. However, when driving you can move the gear shift, which I have done accidentally. The gear shift does not lock while driving. Twice the gear switched to L2, which I do not know what that is but it causes my engine to over work. This is dangerous especially trying to switch the gear back to D when at a speed of over 50mph.

Bought vehicle in October 2024. About 5 hours after we purchased vehicle the check engine light came on, dealership did reset and everything checked out to be safe and sent us on our way. Fast forward to January (do not remember date) check engine light came on again, this time took it to auto zone to hook the car up to the scanner, it did give an error code of P04FB which is a crankcase ventilation sensor. From auto zone we did take it back to the dealership and the had the same code as auto zone. Dealer ship did reset and acknowledged that Chevy was “working on it” but no fix is available. Everything seemed to be ok until 6/5/2025 and the another time in June when the check engine light came back on and again the dealership reset it. Since June we have had the vehicle into the dealership once a month, July (not sure of date) and 3 times in August 8/26 8/27 & 8/29. The check engine light came back on and now we have to take it back to the dealership 9/2/2025. This is super frustrating and an inconvenience to have to take a brand new vehicle to the dealership every day. We have had the vehicle into the dealership a total of 8 times so far with a 9th visit on 9/2/2025 for the SAME issue when will chevy get this figured out?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Vehicle experienced derating. Check engine light on. Called mobile repair service. 20 year mechanic. Replaced Pedal Sensor. Fail. Second visit replaced Throttle Body. Fail. He advised better to take it to a reputable shop. Did. Shop worked on it for 2 months and ended up replacing ECM. I finally had the unit towed to an Electrical Specialist in Longmont Colorado. They replaced Wiring loom between pedal sensor and car worked again. Drove car to Kansas and after about 300 miles, loud boom and messages on display. ECM engaged electric emergency brake hard at 79 MPH. WAS on cruise. At 20 mph car stopped messaging, and resumed normal operation. Pulled over, checked car. 50 miles from nearest city. cautiously drove about 20mph, then 30, then more until up to speed limit again. Worked fine 140 miles (needed a population center to get car fixed)) and it happened again. Limped car a few miles to repair in Salina, Kansas. ECM erased all miles, messages, etc. They could find nothing. my research showed the 2025 Equinox EV recall (We had replaced ECM and reprogrammed). I went to get car and risked driving, but without cruise. Warnings would come up, but car ran. No more emergency stops, but plenty of warnings. $3K in repairs and still problem. I believe current problem is electrical that Equinox is known for. The ECM/Reprogramming problem that activated the Brake is the issue here and previously reported by many. Extremely dangerous! Car has 50K miles. Was flawless driver until now. Note: Unit was Rebuilt Salvage. I bought at 1460 miles. Hit right rear, Replaced right rear sheet metal, Rear driveline on right side (Genuine GM parts), Replaced Hatch door. Inspected by state of Michigan. Reputable Rebuilder. Zero bad reviews. Hundreds of excellent reviews. P.S. Cannot take to Chevrolet - they universally refuse to work on car - not to even change oil.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
OnStar module has failed and malfunctioned. Vehicle is available for inspection. Vehicle now sates it needs an important safety update from GM, but vehicle will not update. Vehicle has not been to a dealership at this time, because I can not get a dealership to give me an estimate for repairs, not will they provide a loaner. But the error code has been verified in writing by OnStar- yet they refuse to just send a new module to preferred dealer so I can get it repaired. Absolutely no warnings on vehicle. Forward emergency braking system engaged when not needed and almost put myself and my grandkids through the windshield. (even though we were all properly restrained) I have since had to disengage this feature because it has now happened 2 times. There are thousands of persons with these same issues as can be found on the OnStar community or Chevrolet Forums.

SERVICE BRAKES
I was exiting the expressway coming up to the back of a semi truck & the brake became hard to push down. Thankfully I was able to stop in time & didn't rear end the truck. It put me & my [XXX] old in danger had I not been able to apply the force needed to push the brake petal down. No dash alerts appeared until at least 10 min after I noticed the issue. I have a mechanic changing the brake booster. The first part we received was faulty & had to be returned. Currently waiting for another brake booster to come in & attempt another repair. TIMING CHAIN MALFUNCTION CAUSED THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY FAIL AND THE CAR IS NOW UNROAD WORTHY. DID OIL CHANGES FREQUENTLY DUE TO FAST CONSUMPTION OF OIL. NEVER OVERHEATED BUT NOW THE CYLINDERS, OIL PUMP AND HEADS ARE NO GOOD AND A REBUILT OR NEW USED ENGINE WOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPAIR THE CAR.

First the window on the driver side wouldn't go down. That was fixed at the dealer. Now the GPS system is not working. I am taking it back to the dealer again on Saturday. Tell me why a $500 phone's GPS system always works and a $40,000.00 car can't keep its GPS system working? I'm thinking this car is a lemon. I just took possession of it on 1-18-25. It is a 2025 Equinox EV. Also, in the sun, the dashboard reflects on the window and it appears as if one is looking through a screen. It is very distracting and dangerous.

My 2018 equinox was running perfectly. Then several warning lights popped up on the dash. I pulled into my daughter's school and didn't have power breaks. Even though brake fluid was full. It wouldn't start back up. A mechanic shop looked at the car and said they thought the timing was off. But couldn't guarantee it. Another mechanic looked at it a few days later and said I needed a new power break pump that the had broken at the camshaft connect. He said the car would need to rebuild the motor or buy a used motor because of the damage. I have heard of several people who have had the same exact issue with the chevy 1.5 turbo motor in many chevy vehicles. There should be a recall as there is never a warning that the vacuum break pump is getting ready to go bad and cause severe engine damage.
