- #11566756January 21, 2024ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
On 3/25/2023 with less than 800 miles on the vehicle, the throttle got stuck. The cruise control was on but NOT activated. After passing a vehicle on a 3 lane interstate, the vehicle accelerated on its own to over 100mph. I hit the cruise control button to turn it off, but the car continued to accelerate on its own. I hit the brake to slow down and try to get it to shut off (thinking if was a cruise control issue), but every time I lifted my foot off the brake pedal, it would accelerate to speeds of 90-110mph. I continued to brake about 7-8 times, then I heard a loud "kurplunk" in the engine, and it stopped. It continued to drive normally for the rest of the trip. The Rogue was taken to the dealership and checked out. I was told the "floor mats got stuck on the gas pedal and not to drive with both the carpeted mats and the rubber mats in the vehicle." I told the service manager this obviously was not the problem and there was a bigger issue, and that did not explain the loud sound coming from the engine. Upon leaving the dealership that same day on 3/30/2023, I accelerated to get on an onramp to Interstate I35, and the RPM stuck at 3200 and would not go down. The engine roared. It was in Sport Mode, so I switched the vehicle to Standard and the RPMs dropped to 2000-2100. I circled back around and went back to the dealership and had the female servie manager ride with me. The engine continued to roar at high RPMs, and the service manager said this was "normal." We returned to the dealership; nothing further was checked out on the vehicle. 7/28/2023 At 4442 miles, I accelerated to get on an onramp to I20 and the accelerataor got stuck again; I was riding the brakes in traffic on the onramp to get the vehicle to slow down. If i removed my foot from the brakes, it accelerated on its own. I kept my foot on the brake and kept pumping until I heard the loud "kurplunk" and it quit once again. This has happend two more times in December of 2023.

235/60R18 tire size I bought a new 2022 Rogue March 2022 which only now has 14,000 miles.During regular maintenance on 1/13/24 , I was told I needed new tires because of tread wear.Nissan said they do not give tire warranty and Hankook would be responsible. After looking at BBB reports, there are quite a few others with similar or same issues. Blow outs, knots or baldness on tires. If these tires don’t last even 2 years or past 14,000 miles,I consider them defective in some way and certainly a safety issue. If Nissan has complaints and still continues to use this tire they are to blame as well.

I was caught in a snowstorm, driving about 5 MPH. Suddenly, the vehicle swerved to the left and I lost complete control; the brakes locked up. The vehicle spun about 145° degrees before coming to a stop perpendicular to the road; subsequently rear-ended from behind. The moment was surreal; I’ve never felt closer to a life-threatening incident because I had ZERO CONTROL over the car: I was spared ONLY because there was no oncoming traffic. My biggest concern is why the safety systems failed to intervene. During the incident, the ABS did NOTHING. Traction Control, NOTHING. NO warning lights came on. It’s mind blowing that the car skidded about 145° degrees without any intervention from the ABS and Traction Control systems. With modern 4-channel ABS and advanced Traction Control (Vehicle Dynamic Control) safety systems, the car should have attempted to correct itself. Because I was at a standstill, I was braking the entire time; I didn’t jam the brakes or steer the vehicle. To make matters worse, the car was in Snow Mode AWD. One hypothesis is a glitch where Vehicle Dynamic Control won’t operate in snow mode to give maximum engine performance. But at the cost of reduced safety and traction. Or perhaps the safety systems are not working as intended. The emergency brake malfunction light occasionally comes on when idling and several malfunction messages once during a long trip. However, these were sporadic and did not appear before this incident. Moreover, the maintenance person at my apartment recently experienced the same issue. While on the road with his new 2021 Nissan Rogue, his car spun out of control FOUR TIMES. He's driven in the snow in other vehicles without a problem, and will NEVER drive the Rogue in snow again. Because this vehicle failed in a critical safety scenario, I’m requesting Nissan carefully inspect the safety systems, including the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Dynamic Control free of charge. Will escalate this further if needed.

Within 2 months of purchasing our Rogue, I experienced uncontrolled acceleration as I was increasing speed to get onto a very fast flowing highway. I was able to put my foot under the pedal and physically force it back to "normal" operation position and the uncontrolled acceleration stopped. I had the car towed to the dealership the next morning where they did a "full system recalibration". So far, this particular issue has not occurred again yet, I do have concerns still as it seems that the car does not always respond correctly/immediate to acceleration now. Additionally, I have experienced the entire center console turning itself off/shutting down and nothing can bring it back up until it wants to. No stopping and turning off the engine, not turning it off and back on, etc. Also have now experienced the car turning itself off when coming to a stop sign, or coming to a stop on the highway due to traffic - please note these are NOT high-speed stopping events, but occurred with regular braking in slow stop and go traffic or neighborhood driving speeds (30mph or less) - this has happened 4 times now. When taken to the dealership recently I was told there "was an update for the computer" but that it would take them 5 hours (five) to download the file and then one hour to transmit/upload it to my vehicle and that it had to be done there. I informed them I would need to return at a later date to do so. Turns out according to a different dealer across town - you can do that at home on your own WiFi... but they wouldn't tell me how. No communication yet from Nissan regarding any of this.

When the heat is turned on there’s a strong gas/smoke odor that fills the cabin and it’s very irritating. It irritates my throat and eyes and also I feel light headed if I drive for a long period of time. I have a 9 month old baby that I take to the daycare and this is very concerning to me. I have heard this problem is common among 2021 and newer Nissan rogues.

When car is sitting idle I can smell gas inside the car. Took car to dealership and was told there was a whole in a hose and they would replace the hose. Hose has been replaced and fumes still come into car when idle. The cars was bought new with 117 miles on it. It now has 5072 miles on it. I have been contacting them for the last two months as it took about three weeks for the hose to come in. When I discussed with the dealership I could still smell gas I was told they have had this issue with several of these cars but the hose usually fixes the problem. The smell is so bad that it now makes me sick to my stomach. I tell them I here a rattle in the engine that was not there before. They say the rattle is no more than any other car on the lot. They have not offered to give me something to drive while they figure out the problem. But at this point I feel it is dangerous for me to be driving it. Even just the time sitting at a stop like I can smell fumes.

My car was purchased in June 2023 and currently has 2,785 miles. I turned my car on and the engine light came on. As I was driving, it was hard to accelerate and my car was not driving properly. I received an email from Nissan Connect stating: Hi [XXX] , Your Rogue's engine may have an emission control system malfunction. If the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is blinking, you may have a misfire or other component malfunction. To reduce or avoid emission control system damage: Do not drive at speeds above 45 MPH (72 km/h). Avoid hard acceleration or deceleration. Avoid steep uphill grades. If possible, reduce the amount of cargo being hauled or towed. I took my car to the Nissan dealer, and they said the engine failed. They don’t know how long it will take to repair. My New 2023 Nissan Rogue encountered a warning "Engine Malfunction Power reduced Service Now" after the car was driven 4600 miles in July 28th 2023. The car did not accelerate higher than 15 miles/ hr with the warning and it was difficult to change lanes while driving the vehicle to Nissan Service at Jeff Wyler Nissan, Eastgate, Ohio - 45103. The warning light went off after the car was restarted a couple of times and the technicians at Nissan service did not find any issue. The issue again resurfaced in 02 Dec 2023, and the car was not running higher than 15 miles/hr. The warning went off after the car was restarted a couple of times. Jeff Wyler Nissan Service again did not found any issue upon inspection. Reached out to Nissan Motors Customer Service and they did'nt give any solution and asked me to report the issue to the dealer if the issue resurfaces again. My family of 3 have a single car and I feel unsafe to drive this car with a 22 month old infant. When the issue occurs it becomes very risky and unsafe to even change lanes as the car does not move more than 15 miles an hour. Both the times when this issue occurred, huge traffic jam is caused on the road, at the back of my car since the car doe not accelerate and I am subjected to frequent honking. I feel afraid if this incident happens in the Interstate highway then this can cause a life risk for me and my family.

DUNLOP GRANDTREK PT21 235/60/R18 TIRES WERE TAKEN OFF WITH 3MM OF TREAD LEFT AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE HAD 5K MILES ON IT, TIRES WERE ON FROM FACTORY. THE TIRES WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO FISHTAIL AND OR HYDROPLANE, A FEW TIMES WE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THANK GOD WE HAD AND ANGEL WATCHING OVER US, AND WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. WE PUT A WARRANTY CLAIM INTO DUNLOP FOR THE TIRES, THEY DENIED IT!!! MEANWHILE, I ORDERED A SET OF WINTER TIRES TO REPLACE THESE BALD TIRES, AS NEW YORK STATE WINTER SETS IN, I NEEDED TO BE SAFE! I HAVE A FRIEND THAT BOUGHT HER VEHICLE 3 DAYS AFTER ME AND HER TIRES ARE THE SAME WAY! TO THE POINT WHERE SHE TRADED! THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AT A DEALERSHIP WHEN THE WINTER TIRES WERE PUT ON. THE COMPANY OF THE TIRES DIDNT ASK FOR PICTURES OR ANYTHING JUST DENIED THE CLAIM SAYING IT MUST BE A SUSPENSION ISSUE BUT PRIOR TO FINDING THE TIRES BEING BALD IT WAS AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE THEY FOUND EVERYTHING AS IT SHOULD BE, EXCEPT THE TIRES WERE LOW ON TREAD.

Roof rails are leaking onto A pillar curtain air bags and causing headliner to become saturated above the A pillers on both sides of the car. Water is also getting onto electrical lighting in vanity mirrors. Found a TSB on this, but also found there is a massive problem with this and it should be a recall. Multiple people who own rogues from this year are having this issue. Water could cause damage to airbags, mold in headliner, and electrical issues with upper roof controls and lighting. Made appointment with shop and will present the TSB when I get there.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated. The contact stated that there was traffic behind, and the vehicle decelerated to 10 MPH. The contact stated that drivers were honking their horns for her to speed up. The check engine warning light and a message stated, “Do Not Drive” was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed EGR module. The contact was informed that the EGR module needed to be replaced and reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,169.

As I was accelerating to merge onto the toll way from 45 mph to 70 mph, I switched to sports mode and reached almost 74 mph. At that point white smoke started coming from the exhaust and the engine started to severely knock. After a few minutes the check engine, oil and high temperature lights came on, on the dash. The vehicle indicated that I pull over and stopped driving. After towing into the dealership, I was told the engine and turbo system had to be changed. After 2 business days I was informed the engine is on back order and I have been on a loaner for a month as of this report. I escalated the issue to Nissan but I have not got any resolution yet. I drove the vehicle for around 12000 miles for since April this year. Glad it is still under warranty. I asked for a replacement vehicle but nissan said it is not an option and I will have to deal with the base model loaner which is not what I purchased(SV with all upgrades). Any assistance to resolve my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Check light comes on. Vehicle unexpectedly looses engine power while driving. Very dangerous situation as you don’t have time to pull over. Vehicle restarts then it happens again. Nissan dealership has no fix for the problem and gave us the car back. The vehicle has been to the dealership twice already. This is urgent and very dangerous.

Vehicle just turned 11,000 miles. As I was accelerating up a hill, the RPM’s were extremely high and then I heard an awful noise in the engine. The car immediately shut down and overheated. It was determined the turbo chip blew apart causing catastrophic damage to the engine. I ended up needing to hire a lemon law attorney and Nissan bought the vehicle back from me. Nissan refused to compensate me for any inconveniences I incurred during the time. I had to pay out of pocket for a tow truck to come get the vehicle off the road because I was stuck on a dangerous corner and the police officers said the car needed to be moved ASAP. I had a trip planned with the vehicle in 2 weeks and ended up having to buy plane tickets instead because the loaner vehicle I had to fight the dealership for said the loaner couldn’t leave New York State. It took me a week to fight the dealership to give me a loaner vehicle. Nissan corporate was terrible to deal with. When I went to turn the vehicle in for the buy back process, the dealership told me they are up to 4 vehicles with the same issue now. It’s the new engine in the 2023 Nissans. This needs to be looked into and Nissan needs to be held accountable.
