- #11539834August 21, 2023ENGINE, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
Engine failure due to piston crack. Seems like it is a common issue for mercedes models with this specific engine. A lot of people have their engine needing to be replaced at very low miles such as 10k miles 15k miles. Vehicle was always been serviced on time. Now I need a new engine. Manufacturer needs to take responsibility of this engine defect

When driving on a highway, heard a clunk and lost all power. Not much traffic and was able to pulled over to side of road. Mechanic reported that front drive shaft failed. Not sure of exact details but could have involved the bolts in the driveshaft shearing off. Apologies for the late report, did not know owners could make these reports.

Corrosion in rear brake line. Brought car for warranty service for rear subframe corrosion at a Mercedes dealership, and the service advisor noted corrosion in rear brake line. Researched online and another complaint for same issue was denied in October 14, 2020 (85 FR 65136). A website [XXX] lists anecdotal evidence of complaints following the initial investigation. Since it is the same problem effecting same model year as the subframe, further investigation seems warranted. Before being brought in, the car fishtailed, which could have been due to the defective subframe. No lights or warnings. The rearview camera on this vehicle operates intermittently. When it is not operating, the infotainment screen is completely black (no distortion, no flickering, no image at all.) I realize that my vehicle is out of warranty (2010MY,) but the issue began in 2015 and has been gradually getting more frequent. Numerous customers have been complaining about this concern on the forums from as early as 2013 (only 2-3 years into ownership as 2010 was the first model year of the W212 E-Class generation.) Motor mounts and transmission mounts continue to fail at intervals or 13,000 miles and again at 16,000 miles. Vibration of transmission is scary. Mercedes has replaced the mounts many times. They refuse to install new Transmission mount now after only 16,000 miles on the replacement. I have contacted MBUSA and they are telling me , they will not help with these substandard parts. Very well-known issue.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while driving at various speeds on a bumpy road surface, the sunroof shuddered. The contact also stated that the sunroof failed to open. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 40-45 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the pedal went to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to respond. The brake fluid level message was displayed. The contact stated that she swerved to the left lane to avoid crashing into another vehicle. The contact then made a left turn and continually depressed the brake pedal until the vehicle stopped. The contact then drove 20-25 MPH to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the brake line was corroded, causing the brake fluid to leak. The mechanic added brake fluid to the vehicle; however, the failure recurred while the contact was driving back to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

The car will apply electronic parking brake when put into park. If the brake is wet due to rain and the car sits overnight or for 12 hours or more, the brake sticks to the rotor. The brake will not release unless you press down on the accelerator creating a safety hazard as the car will jerk forward or in reverse. I've raised this with the MB dealer and service technician and they confirm the this Amy happen and that there is no fix. This situation creates a serious hazard.

The car was purchased as CPO warrantied and within 2 months of purchase, showed low tire pressure on front passenger tire. Brought the car to a tire shop for what I thought was a nail, turned out was a cracked rim. Read online forums to find out this is a common issue. Mercedes underwent a class action lawsuit for sub-par quality wheels. Mercedes benz does not cover rim under warranty and replacement cost is very high. It is a hazard for safety considering the rim may disintegrate while highway driving.

Was driving the car when it gave me a -48v malfunction. This was quickly followed by an overheat warning to turn the car off. It appears to be an issue with the -48v battery. Still waiting to hear what root cause is as MBUSA has had the car for 24 days and counting without many answers.

Purchased vehicle May 22, 2023 at Direct Auto Sales of Orlando, Florida. Approximately two and a half weeks later the subframe broke away from the support arm rendering the vehicle in an inoperable and unsafe condition. A local mechanic said this vehicle should not have been driven. He said we could have been in an accident and suffered severe injuries or even death. Mercedes Benz of South Orlando inspected the vehicle and reported the subframe, fuel tank, front and rear axles, exhaust system, support arms, motor mounts, etc need replacing. Cost is $30,000. How could anyone fail to see damage this extensive.and not report it.

On July 5, 2023, I was driving my 2013 Mercedes E350, when a red text warning appeared in the speedometer display: "BRAKE Check Brake Fluid Level". I immediately took my car to the dealer's repair shop at Contemporary Motor Cars in Little Silver, NJ. Their mechanic inspected and found that both rear brake lines were leaking and needed to be replaced. I requested that they do the necessary repairs. The total cost I paid was $2309.18. My car has 106,352 miles driven. In my 50+ years of driving, I have never experienced such a serious failure in the many cars I previously owned. Subsequently I did some research and found the the NHTSA denied a Defect Petition DP20-004 for a complaint that had been filed by Mr. Surjit Singh for the same failure in his 2013 Mercedes E350. I also found many other on-line complaints about leaking rear brakes lines in 2013 model Mercedes E350 cars. I recommend the NHTSA re-investigate this serious car defect.
