The rear brake line corroded and developed an actual brake-fluid leak. The failure triggered a brake-system warning and created a risk of reduced braking capability or loss of braking if the leak worsened. The problem was confirmed by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership, which diagnosed corrosion of the brake line and recommended replacement. The dealer provided a repair estimate and later reduced the repair cost through a goodwill review coordinated with Mercedes-Benz USA. This was not simply surface rust discovered during routine maintenance. The corrosion progressed to the point of an active hydraulic brake-fluid leak. The vehicle had approximately 79,349 miles at the time of the failure. Mercedes-Benz had also recently replaced the rear subframe on this vehicle under an extended warranty related to corrosion. Because the brake lines are located in the same general rear-underbody area, I am concerned that the corrosion may have been present or visible during that earlier repair. I am also aware that NHTSA previously reviewed rear brake-line corrosion involving 2010-2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles under Defect Petition DP20-004. I am submitting this complaint because, in my case, the corrosion progressed beyond surface deterioration to an actual brake-fluid leak. This happened all of a sudden while my wife was driving to work and could have resulted in serious injury or death. The vehicle and failed components are available for inspection upon request, to the extent they remain available at the repair facility.

The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes-Benz E350. While driving at 30 MPH, a "Reduced Braking Power" warning message was displayed on the instrument panel followed by an audible alarm. The brake pedal travelled to the floorboard, resulting in a significant loss of braking functionality. Additionally, the vehicle became stuck in second gear, requiring the driver to pull over and have the vehicle towed to the residence. The consumer performed an OBD II scan, but no diagnostic trouble codes related to the brake failure were retrieved. The manufacturer was notified and confirmed that there were no active recalls associated with the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

- #11770745October 13, 2026VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY
The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 62 MPH, the contact heard a loud sound coming from the roof, and the sunroof exploded. The contact had previously observed wind whistling near the sunroof seal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under a recall. The dealer stated that the vehicle was previously included in a recall during which a stress test was performed, and it was concluded that a repair was not necessary at the time, leading to the closure of the recall. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Two incidents of uncommanded automatic braking with no vehicle ahead and no debris on the road: (1) October 7, 2026, 4:30 AM — Active Brake Assist braked automatically on a clear road in dark conditions; (2) second incident of the same kind, date unknown. No collision resulted, but sudden uncommanded braking in live traffic is a serious rear-end crash risk.

I experienced rapid, severe tire wear due to a severely corroded rear subframe. Because the structural damage posed an immediate safety hazard, I had the subframe replaced at an independent shop using a brand-new, genuine OEM Mercedes-Benz subframe ordered directly from a dealer parts department. I requested reimbursement under Service Bulletin MC-10233796-0001 (20-Year Rear Subframe Extended Warranty Program) and argued that the repair qualifies because genuine OEM parts were installed, the severe corrosion presented an emergency safety risk, and the $2,000 cost was reasonable. I provided an itemized repair invoice, proof of payment, and subframe rust/alignment failure documentation in my appeals. MBUSA failed to provide appropriate notification of this extended warranty, I found out from a tech that performed a routine oil change.

AC Compressor failed on a 4 year car. These compressors shed metal pieces when they fail effecting other parts of the vehicle and creating potential for the whole car to shut down as others with this problem have experience. Also AC going out randomly in a region with heat waves causes unexpected safety and heat risk issues.

I am filing this complaint regarding NHTSA Recall 26V216 for my 2018 Mercedes-Benz E 400 4MATIC, VIN [XXX]. On XXX, the recalled driveshaft/universal-joint component failed, rendering the vehicle undriveable. At essentially the same time, the steering became effectively frozen and I could not steer normally. The recall materials I received warned of sudden loss of drive power, but did not warn of possible steering loss. The recall notice did not give an actual earliest repair date. Instead, it stated that I could take the vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer for repair at no cost. My disabled vehicle was taken to Mercedes-Benz of Orland Park on XXX, and I was provided a loaner that day. I was then told the corrected remedy was unavailable and might not be available until approximately XXX. The dealer discussed repair costs of approximately $9,000-$10,000, plus about $6,000 more if steering damage is confirmed. I was also told an available/older OEM driveshaft could potentially be installed if I paid for the repair while the corrected recall remedy remained unavailable. The dealer later requested return of the loaner while my vehicle remained undriveable. I escalated the matter to Mercedes-Benz USA and sent a formal demand on XXX, with a three-day response deadline. As of XXX, I had not received a substantive resolution. I request that NHTSA investigate the unavailable free remedy, adequacy of the recall notice, proposed paid repair, remedy delay, whether steering loss is an undisclosed consequence of Recall 26V216, whether stronger interim warnings were required, and whether Mercedes-Benz should provide continuous alternate transportation until the corrected remedy is available. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that the brake pedal was spongy while depressed, with the "Brake System" and "Low Brake Fluid" warning lights displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the brake fluid was topped off; however, the failure reoccurred in less than 24 hours, and the same warning lights were displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the technician was informed that there appeared to be a brake leak. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the technician discovered that the subframe was severely corroded, which had caused the brake failure. The contact informed the dealer that there was a class action lawsuit for the failure. The dealer acknowledged that the failure was a known issue; however, no further assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 67,218.

The Starting Current Limiter Recall (NHTSA Campaign 16V831000 / 17V114000): If your E-Class failed to start or struggled to crank initially, a defective starting current limiter can severely overheat the electrical lines to the starter, causing nearby components-including the battery assembly and main wiring—to melt and smoke. The above is exactly what happened. I was sitting at a red light and the car shut off and I tried to start it again and smoke started coming out of the right air vent in front of the battery. The wires to the battery were destroyed and part of the battery was melted. This is a certified pre-owned 2017 Mercedes E-300 4-matic. I just had the 100k mile maintenance done 2 months ago. The car is in perfect condition. New battery installed August 2025
