I replaced a dead battery after trying to jump start or charge. while doing so I noticed a strong odor of gas. I noticed of large damp spot on the ground. Later I moved the car and a companion looked under the car and noticed gas streaming underneath when I started the car. This was dangerous situation and a large amount of gas. Had a spark occurred when I was working on the battery the explosion would have destroyed the car and injured anyone near... - #11595652June 21, 2024TIRES, TIRES:BEAD, TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. I was driving my 2015 Range Rover Sport, when a low battery symbol displayed on the dashboard. I drove 3 miles away to go to AutoZone to buy a new battery and as I parked the vehicle, I noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. My brother and I ran inside of AutoZone and asked them if they had a fire extinguisher because my car had a little fire on the driver’s side of the engine. I got AAA to tow my vehicle into the Land Rover dealership/Maintenance repair shop. The repair specialist I’m assigned to (Sam Haidary) at the Land Rover location in Freeport, Long Island NY, told me that the fire issue with the vehicle didn’t come from the alternator or the weak battery, so I did some research online because I personally know someone that went through this same issue (i.e. Range Rover Sport catching on fire with no warning) as I just went through. I came across this article that’s addressing the same exact issue (the engine catching fire) that happened to my 2015 Range Rover Sport. Here’s the article: [XXX] I purchased my vehicle on February 2021 and every year I bring it to the Land Rover Range Rover for repairs and upkeep 2-3 times per year. I don’t know why this is happening but from reading that article it’s apparently obvious that the same issue has happened to my vehicle. Component/System Failure: The issue pertains to a timing chain failure malfunction, which has led to the disablement of the vehicle while driving. Yes, the affected component is available for inspection upon request. Based on additional information received this timing chain failure issue was raised and settled in a Class action lawsuit that Jaguar agreed to pay for Lessees of these models that all had a timing chain failure issue but the issues were not resolved with this vehicle. Safety Concerns: The failure occurred while driving on Highway [XXX], and the potential consequences could have been catastrophic. The vehicle's abrupt disablement in the middle of rush hour traffic in Washington D.C. posed an imminent risk of a near-fatal accident. A highway patrol officer had to intervene to redirect traffic and prevent other vehicles from crashing into the lane. This incident not only endangered the driver but also jeopardized the safety of countless other drivers on the road. It's crucial to highlight that such a failure could have been avoided with proper maintenance and early detection of the timing chain issue. The malfunction of the timing chain indeed poses risks, not only to your safety but potentially to others on the road as well. When crucial components fail unexpectedly, it can lead to hazardous situations such as sudden loss of power or control, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Confirmation by Service Centers: The problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by either a dealer or an independent service center. They have likely conducted thorough inspections to identify the root cause of the issue. Inspections: The vehicle or the faulty component was inspected at Autotech DC by various parties. - #11590920May 27, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, STEERING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Less than 2 hours before my car completely shut down while driving, I received an error message stating "Stop safely. Electrical fault detected." I immediately reached out to the service department who told they didn't think the car would have any additional issues and that I should bring it to the shop on Monday (the incident happened on Saturday). While driving down an entrance ramp to a major highway, my car shut completely off leaving me with no steering, brakes, emergency brakes, hazards or anything--completely dead to the point where absolutely nothing worked. I had to do my best to steer a dead car down an entrance ramp and onto a grassy area on the side of the highway as to avoid being hit by another vehicle or crashing into a vehicle or tree. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the car completely shut down leaving no emergency equipment for me to use. I had cars behind me, in front of me, and beside me on a busy highway with a speed limit of 70 mph. I was also going down a ramp with no brakes. At first I thought it was the battery as did the dealership, then they suspected the generator, then they said it was the converter. They were able to produce the same problem after the generator was replaced and the car only ran for 15 minutes. Unfortunately we sold the car within 2 weeks of the incident because we no longer felt safe, and the manufacturer has been replacing one part at a time with the most important part being on back order with no indication of when it will arrive.

The engine's cooling pipes melt leading to the cooling system failing. This then overheats the engine which leads to dangerous driving conditions. This has been a known issue in other Range Rover VINs and also affects this one.

I had a 64,000 mile tune up on my vehicle upon picking up the car the tech mentioned I may want to replace start/stop switch as it “felt funny upon reprogramming the vehicle” I was given a written estimate and sent on my way in the vehicle. Driving on the highway 66mph heard a ding looked at dash to see a “start/stop switch fail” warning and the car went completely dead I had no blinker no hazards nothing thankfully I was in travel lane and there was a breakdown lane available to move into. My children and I were almost killed. Dealership claims they’ve never heard of this issue. I had never encountered any issues like this prior

My family and I were driving home in my 2018 Range Rover Sport, which I purchased in 2019 from Land Rover of Sudbury (Massachusetts). A brief “coolant level low” warning flashed on the dashboard for less than a minute, then promptly went away and never flashed or displayed again. Minutes later, the car started shaking, forcing us to pull over onto the side of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The engine then immediately began smoking. The temperature gauge never went above the midpoint level, so we were quite confused about what the problem was. We had the car towed directly to Land Rover of Sudbury. They informed me that the engine needed to be replaced. I find it unacceptable, and most importantly, unsafe, that the car would go from a “Coolant Level Low” warning that lasted mere seconds before disappearing, to ZERO coolant and a catastrophic engine failure minutes later while driving on [XXX] This all happened only a few months after the vehicle had ostensibly been deemed to be in suitable repair by Land Rover of Sudbury upon my re-taking possession of it following 6+ months in their service shop. I still have not received any answer whatsoever from the dealership as to what went wrong with my vehicle. I have serious concerns that this could be evidence of a more pervasive issue that could potentially affect other vehicles that are currently on the road. I also question whether the service performed to the vehicle at Land Rover of Sudbury in 2023 was the cause of the issue. I question the sensors in the vehicle, as well as the communication to the dashboard, and I would like this fully investigated. Why would the coolant level low warning have gone off so quickly after it came on if there was NO coolant? Why would the temperature gauge on the dashboard not have elevated if the car was overheating? All of these questions lead me to the belief that something was wrong with the vehicle beyond what has been conveyed to me so far.
