- #11774404October 29, 2026STEERING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
The steering wheel intermittently sticks, binds, or locks up while driving down a straight road or curves on the freeway, going 65-75mph down highway 5 as well on highway 17. It made it very difficult to maintain a straight path. No dashboard warning lights, error codes, or chimes appear when the failure occurs. It feels like you are fighting with the steering wheel because it forcefully pulls right but when trying to correct it by moving left, it continues trying to go left. I have to move it back to the right to avoid hitting cars or walls and it takes a lot of effort to maintain a steady, straight path. This happens intermittently whether the lane assist is turned on or off. The vehicle was taken to dealership but they were unable to duplicate the issue and no repairs were performed, leaving the issue unresolved.

The contact owns a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was jumpstarted and taken to the dealer, where the battery for the Auto START/STOP system was replaced; however, the failure recurred several days later. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, where a reconfiguration was completed as per the manufacturer’s instructions. The contact stated that both batteries were charged and tested, and the contact was informed that the batteries had passed the test; however, the voltage went from 12.5 volts to 11.7 volts in three days. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the messages "Battery Needs Charging" and "Battery Low" were displayed. The vehicle was returned to the dealer a third time and remained for additional diagnostic tests. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by the dealer. The failure mileage was 791.

I lease a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. Since XXX, the vehicle jerks and surges unexpectedly while driving. It happens almost daily, at speeds from 10mph to 30mph, during acceleration. The jerking is abrupt and hard to predict. It affects my control of the vehicle in traffic and when merging, and I am concerned it could cause a rear-end collision. I have taken the vehicle to Salerno Duane Jeep 6 times for this problem: XXX. Each time the dealer recorded "cannot replicate". Repair orders show the vehicle was driven as little as 1 mile during some visits, and one order states a 10-mile road test while the odometer shows 1 mile. The most recent visit began XXX. After 9 days and 20 test miles, the dealer again reported it could not replicate the problem. I have requested they keep the vehicle until it can be replicated. I have recorded multiple videos of the jerking as it happens and gave them to the dealer. During the service on XXX, the vehicle also set fault code P0BBE-00 (hybrid battery pack voltage variation) and required a hybrid battery replacement, with a 5-week wait for parts. The jerking lessened after the repair but has since gotten continually worse. No repair has been made for the jerking. I am asking the NHTSA to review this complaint for a possible safety defect in the 4xe powertrain or hybrid system. I am linking a shared folder of videos of this happening across multiple months and dates, different times of day, etc. The link is also in a PDF attached to the complaint. After receiving the 68C update my vehicle has had a constant power drain from the high voltage battery that lessens the advertised mileage in all electric mode. In addition, the power output in all electric mode is severely reduced and poses a safety issue when attempting to merge into traffic or when having to accelerate to avoid a hazard.

On October 23, 2026, my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe unexpectedly lost propulsion. Before this incident, it intermittently shifted very harshly at 40–60 mph while I maintained steady accelerator pressure. That day, a “SERV 4WD” warning appeared and the vehicle tugged and jerked during turns. As I pulled into a parking space, it lost the ability to move. I turned it off. After waiting, I restarted it; there was a very loud thunk, and it suddenly lurched forward. The check-engine and brake warning lights illuminated, and it still would not move. When the tow truck driver restarted it, the loud thunk happened again. He was eventually able to reverse and move the Jeep a few feet onto the tow truck. He said it appeared to be staying in electric mode rather than transitioning to hybrid operation, although this was not a confirmed diagnosis. The Jeep was towed to an authorized dealership. The dealership says diagnostic scans pass and it cannot reproduce the failure. No cause or repair has been identified. My Jeep app shows safety recall 78C (NHTSA 25V-766), related to possible engine failure and loss of propulsion, with the status “Parts Unavailable.” The dealership told me its scan indicates my vehicle does not need the recall, but has not clearly explained why. I do not know whether the recall caused this incident. I have opened a case with Jeep Corporate. I am concerned this unexplained loss of propulsion and sudden forward lurch could recur in traffic and cause a crash. I request that NHTSA document and review this potential safety defect.

Oil Filter Housing/Oil Cooler Failure Causing Oil and Coolant Contamination, Serpentine Belt Failure, and Engine Overheating My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo E, equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, has developed a significant oil leak originating from the oil filter housing/oil cooler assembly. A mechanic has identified this assembly as the source of the oil leak and confirmed that its failure is allowing engine oil to mix with the coolant. In addition to internal oil and coolant contamination, engine oil is leaking externally onto surrounding engine components, potentially including the serpentine belt and pulley system. The vehicle recently experienced a complete serpentine belt failure while driving, resulting in engine overheating and requiring me to pull over immediately to prevent additional engine damage. I am concerned that oil leaking from the housing assembly may have contributed to the premature deterioration and failure of the serpentine belt. The oil contamination of the cooling system presents additional safety concerns, including reduced cooling efficiency, damage to cooling system components, and the possibility of severe engine damage or unexpected vehicle disablement. The combined risks of external oil leakage, internal coolant contamination, serpentine belt failure, and engine overheating create a potentially dangerous situation, particularly during highway driving. I am concerned that the oil filter housing/oil cooler assembly may have an underlying design or manufacturing defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue in 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar engine and determine whether a safety recall or other corrective action is warranted.

Saturday night, [XXX], my family went out to dinner and took my elderly father ([XXX]), who sits in the front seat when we go out together. Upon returning to his home, he got out, and we drove back to our home, approximately 2 minutes away. My husband parked the car, turned off the engine and while we were exiting the vehicle, the now empty passenger seat headrest popped open with a loud bang. Had my father still been sitting there, he would have been injured. I contacted customer care this morning with my concerns and was told that although they are aware of the problem, there was nothing they could do about the repair as the extended warranty period had ended. I had no notification of such an issue or related warranty as I purchased the vehicle in July of 2022. The warranty period was still active at the time of purchase. Awaiting motor mounts. Causative water pump replacement. Loose feeling and creaking sound when operating the vehicle. Hard knocking sound when shifting gears to drive or reverse. I thought most of all of the sounds were normal because it is a Jeep. This has been for more than I realized.

The issue I am reporting involves the Active Head Restraint system on my vehicle. I have been victim to the inadvertent deployment of this system not once, not twice, but three times now... In February of 2024 the driver and passenger headrests were replaced under the x88 warranty extension. As far as I know, those were the original headrests that had been replaced after they inadvertently deployed (fortunately, while no one was in the seat). Here we are, only 2.5 years later and one of the NEW headrests has failed in the same way! Once again, we were fortunate that no one was in the vehicle when it happened. My issues are these: -I am a disabled veteran with neck issues, and appear to be driving a vehicle where the head rest is a ticking time bomb. -The faulty headrests were replaced, but apparently with headrests equally faulty. -I can not afford to get rid of my vehicle, I can not in good conscience sell my vehicle at fair market value knowing it is defective, so I am stuck. -The x88 warranty extension is past the 10 years since the original headrests were put in service...but I am now dealing with a 2.5 year old headrest that has failed... -What happens if my headrest deploys while I'm driving down the road..? With my underlying medical issues, what would that do to me? Will it cause me to wreck? Will my loss of control of my vehicle impact another family on the road? WHY WAS A KNOWN FAULTY COMPONENT NOT REPLACED WITH A REENGINEERED COMPONENT THAT REMEDIED THE UNDERLYING ISSUE(S)??? I am requesting the help of all agencies with purview over this issue. Please assist me in achieving a viable remedy, not a temporary coverup bandaid. This is clearly a matter of safety and security for not only myself, but any passengers I may have as well as whatever other vehicles may be on the road around me should operation of my vehicle be impacted by the failure of this faulty "safety" device. Thank you.

- #11773835October 26, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I am reporting repeated, sudden losses of motive power at highway speeds in my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (PHEV). The vehicle's propulsion, electrical, and engine systems completely shut down without warning, causing the car to randomly stop while cruising at 60 mph on the highway, creating an immediate and severe crash risk. Despite the authorized dealership (David Auto of Glen Mills, PA) claiming that all outstanding safety recalls regarding drive power loss were resolved, the defect has actually worsened. This critical failure has occurred on at least three separate occasions recently: Late September 2026: Initial sudden power loss while cruising at 60 mph on the highway. [XXX]: Second instance of sudden power failure at 60 mph on the highway. [XXX]: Third instance of complete power loss at 60 mph on the highway. The vehicle was carrying four occupants at the time, significantly compounding the severe safety hazard. The manufacturer and authorized dealerships have failed to permanently rectify this dangerous defect, and the authorized recall remedies, stated complete, clearly have not or did not fulfill the obligations of safety and what was notified and communicated to me by Stelantis FCA (JEEP). As you may know, the ongoing, unresolved hazard is currently the subject of an active breach of warranty lawsuits and actively litigated. The vehicle is unsafe to operate on on highways due to these unpredictable hybrid powertrain shutdowns randomly at highway speeds, capping mph at 60 even if you are going 70+, and flooring the car in a passing lane or attempting to avoid other cars. It needs further investigation, and is a known issue apart of the hybrid systems failure and subsequent recalls yet no resolutions. ADDITIONALLY NO warning lights came on when this occurred. Video and 1st and 2nd person witnesses were taken as this is the 3rd time its occurred. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There has been repetitive recalls on the rear coil spring for my vehicle. There is another open recall on it AGAIN with no remedy as of now. My vehicle is making the same noise it was before when this happened and was to “supposedly be fixed under the recall.” I’ve contacted Jeep corporate and they were no help at all. All they wanted to do was write me a check for two of my car payments. This is unbelievable to have to be driving a car with this same recurring issue! The recall states that the vehicle could crash without prior notice/ warning!! I need some assistance in this case - recall number NHSTA 26V-562 is the current one and the prior ones was 26V-051 and 23V-413 and 23V-352.

The engine hesitates when accelerating from a stop. Especially while turning. This happens 100% of the time. If you are accelerating very slowly, then no issue. However this is not common. The hesitation has resulted in several near accident situations.

My jeep had locked me out with my [XXX] in the car. The keys were on the seat and the doors had locked with my baby in the car seat. I tried using the jeep app to unlock the doors and was unsuccessful. So I then called the jeep connect assistance phone number and they were unable to unlock the doors as well. New 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee (2.0L turbo I4) has open, unrepaired safety recall 26V-559 (FCA 54D): the tire pressure monitoring system may not detect low tire pressure or illuminate the warning telltale; remedy is an RFH module reprogram. The vehicle also has an open manufacturer campaign for 2.0L engine spark plug replacement and additional software flash campaigns. I scheduled service for these recalls at an authorized FCA/Stellantis dealer (Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, Boise, ID). I dropped the vehicle off on a Wednesday at 7:00 AM; the dealer kept it nearly 4 full days and returned it Saturday evening with zero recall work performed, citing shop scheduling delays. The service advisor told me to call/email the following Tuesday to reschedule; those calls and emails were not returned. Voicemails and emails to the dealership's service manager and general manager have also gone unanswered. As a result, I am driving a new vehicle with an incomplete safety recall and no dealer remedy scheduled. No crash, fire, or injury has occurred. Problem has not been inspected by the manufacturer. I have escalated to the manufacturer and am attempting to book the recall at an alternate dealer. I am reporting that the manufacturer's dealer network has failed to remedy this safety recall in a timely manner.

The control panel of the radio became inoperable and rebooted itself right after a software update. We have had multiple problems with this console and the dealer has failed to fix it or stop the updates which cause the problems. From what I understand, this is a known problem. [XXX] [XXX] AI Overview The radio and infotainment system in the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee (running the Uconnect 5 system) frequently fails due to software bugs, failed over-the-air (OTA) updates, or telematics and hardware glitches that cause freezing, black screens, or continuous reboot loops . [1, 2, 3] Common Symptoms Screen Freezing or Blackouts: The display locks up on the Jeep logo, turns completely black, or stops responding to touch. Loss of Cabin Controls: Because Uconnect controls climate and heated seats, a freeze can lock out temperature adjustments. Audio Glitches: Random popping, crackling, loud hums, or complete audio dropouts. Connectivity Drops: Constant disconnections from wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Bluetooth. Failed OTA Updates: A corrupted background software update can brick the unit, leaving it stuck on an Android recovery screen INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
