The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or accelerating from idle, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. While accelerating from idle, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH, requiring that the driver slowly accelerate and gradually increase the speed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The mechanic replaced the brakes and tires. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the muffler assembly and catalytic converter related to the failure to accelerate. The failure persisted, and the vehicle was returned to the dealer, who confirmed the noises coming from the engine while the accelerator pedal was depressed, with a burning odor, and oil issues. After five visits to the dealer, an oil leak from the drain plug was determined. The drain plug and oil pan were replaced a year and six months later. The vehicle continued to fail to accelerate properly, making it difficult to drive uphill. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Niagara Hyundai of Grand Island (1910 Alvin Rd, Grand Island, NY 14072), who confirmed that the vehicle was not safe to drive. The catalytic converter was replaced again but the failure persisted, and there was no engine oil in the vehicle. While driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started shaking. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and waited approximately 10–15 minutes before continuing to drive at 50 MPH. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the engine was hot. The vehicle was towed back to the second dealer, who performed an oil consumption test requiring the contact to drive 1,000 miles. The test determined the engine oil level was extremely low. The dealer suggested a chamber cleaning, but the request was still pending. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

While driving under normal conditions, my engine experienced a sudden and catastrophic failure. The check-engine light illuminated, the vehicle began shaking violently, and I was forced to pull over immediately due to safety concerns. There was no prior warning and no oil pressure or oil warning light activated at any time before or during the failure. After stopping safely, I checked the oil level and found it lower than expected. I added oil as a precaution, but the condition did not improve and the vehicle became inoperable and required towing. The engine assembly remains intact and available for inspection upon request. This failure posed a serious safety risk, as the loss of engine function occurred without warning while the vehicle was in motion, creating the risk of stalling or loss of control. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealership. Hyundai Motor America denied warranty and goodwill assistance, citing mileage and alleged insufficient maintenance documentation, despite the vehicle being within the 10-year powertrain period and despite the nature of the failure. Routine maintenance was performed throughout ownership; however, some historical service records are unavailable due to the age of the vehicle and changes in service locations over time. Multiple facilities no longer retain records from that period. Notably, no oil warning indicators never activated, which raises concern regarding the failure mechanism. Hyundai has acknowledged widespread engine issues in this engine family involving oil consumption, bearing failure, and sudden engine seizure. The symptoms and progression of this failure closely align with those known defect patterns. This complaint is submitted to document a sudden engine failure presenting a clear safety concern and to assist in identifying potential defect trends. This car has undergone previous engine repair, AC condenser and entire turbo by their service department previously 2022 & 2024 respectively.

Sun roof on Tucson 2023 shattered while car was being driven. When the roof shattered there was a loud sound (like a bomb going off) in the car and then the sound of glass breaking. The vehicle is available for inspection. There were not any warnings or messages before the failure. Safety was at risk for the passengers and any vehicles that were following. The loud sound caused the driver to swerve and could have caused an accident if another vehicle was on either side of the car. The vehicle was taken to a dealership and shown the damage and the service advisor stated he never heard of a problem. I have contacted Hyundai and they said it might take 6 to 8 weeks before an inspection could be made. There are many messages on the web from people with the same issues. Hyundai did a recall for this same issue for earlier production dates.

Airbag indicator came on around 62000 miles. Was told by Hyundai technician that it cost $2100 plus to replace part. Hyundai has known problems with airbags. Did this extend to my model? Have others had similar problems?

- #11708682January 4, 2026EXTERIOR LIGHTING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
Issue Type: Intermittent Electronic System Failure / Critical Safety Hazard Description of Incident: A severe safety-related incident occurred while driving at night on 12/29/2025, at approximately 5:48 pm. Under fully dark winter conditions in MA, while the vehicle was in motion with the headlights set to AUTO, the following events occurred: Total System Blackout: All interior and exterior lighting systems suddenly failed simultaneously, including the digital instrument cluster, infotainment display, and backlighting for all illuminated buttons and controls. The complete failure of exterior lighting and interior displays resulted in an immediate loss of forward visibility and access to critical driving information. Duration: The blackout lasted approximately two seconds before the system appeared to reboot. Recurrence: Approximately ten seconds after the first incident, the same total blackout occurred again under identical conditions. Vehicle Status: The engine remained running throughout the incidents; however, the simultaneous loss of lighting and instrumentation created an extremely high-risk driving situation. This incident constitutes a critical safety failure. The vehicle had experienced repeated electrical system failures prior to this incident, and was previously presented to the dealer on 8/7/2025 for diagnosis and repair. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the malfunction and failed to take appropriate corrective action to address these issues: 07/13/2025: The Auto Stop function became inactive, and the vehicle failed to accelerate properly after stopping at traffic lights, creating a hazardous driving condition. 07/14/2025: The phone failed to connect to the vehicle’s infotainment system. 07/17/2025: While reversing in a parking lot, the Parking Collision Warning system failed to detect a moving vehicle behind the car. No audible or visual warning was issued, rendering the safety feature ineffective in preventing a potential collision.

The engine is burning excessive oil. Down 3 quarts over approx. 3,000 miles. Mechanic verified there are no leaks - it is burning the oil.

The Driver Attention Warning is not disabled, even when doing exactly that in Settings. This is incredibly annoying and distracting and is a major reason I cannot recommend this car to others.

Car died/lost power while driving in traffic 11/28/25. Good Samaritan was kind enough to push me off the road out of traffic. Car was towed to Hyundai dealer that day, then 12/1 told engine failure, required engine replacement. Class action lawsuit settlement for engine replacement, but denied by Hyundai because of "neglect", since I am not able to locate all of the service records that they request. Known faulty rotating assembly, and Hyundai has implemented concerted practice of denying warranty coverage for failed engine. Now having to pay almost $8K to replace with new engine, but concern that new engine will have same issue. (multiple posts about this). There was high potential for significant traffic collision, injury due to sudden, catastrophic engine failure. Traumatic experience.

The contact owned a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact's neighbor knocked on the contact's residential door and informed the contact that the contact's vehicle was on fire. The contact stated that when she went outside, the contact noticed that the entire front of the vehicle was on fire. The fire department was called, and the fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The contact stated that the vehicle was burned all the way to the rear seat of the vehicle. The fire burned another vehicle that was parked in the contractor's yard. In addition, the contact stated that the fire burned a good portion of the contact's residential yard. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was condemned a total loss by the insurance company. The fire inspector informed the contact that the fire started in the engine near the battery. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,500.

- #11707526December 29, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The automatic brake system triggers when there is no obstacle. It has caused the car to stop suddenly in the middle of the road and almost become rear ended several times. We took it to the Hyundai service center and they said they’ve had complaints of this before but checked the system and don’t see any issues.

It has randomly stopped working, I wasnt in any accidents. One day it just stopped. This could easily cause an accident, if I was driving with kids and needed the extra warning. Or if I couldn't see.

- #11707219December 27, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Major problems with this cars electrical and computer systems. Six warning lights would begin to flash in succession. Eventually car would be inoperative leaving us stranded in July 2025 in Cumberland MD then after supposed repair we were again stranded in Providence RI on Nov 20, 2025 and car has been there for repair ever since. No completion date has yet been given. I strongly believe there are major safety problems with this car.

Hello, my 2019 Hyundai Tuscan I have owned for 3 years-4 years. Unfortunately it is a GDI Motor, it uses oil so bad, even though I do change the oil every 3,000 miles, and do every maintenance on the vehicle that is told to me done, ever time I change the oil it is low, even though I top it off through out the 3,000 miles. I have no leaks at all and it is just evaporating, I do not think this is right for a 2019… there is several issues and concerns from other buyers with this issue. There should be a fix to this, asap

I had to retrieve something from the back of my Hyundai Tucson Hybrid SUV, opened the back door. I retrieved several items and placed them in a safe area. Got back into my vehicle and proceeded to drive into my garage (with the rear door fully open). Next thing I heard was my Tucson crashing into my garage door. I had no warnings, flashing lights or audio sounds nothing that would help me avoid that collision. The reason I purchased this particular vehicle was because it comes with sensors and cameras completely around the vehicle (including the rear). In fact on the rear door is sensor and a camera. In fact I can park the Tucson out of the vehicle. The sensors will ensure that it will not collide with anything. Same is true in a very tight parking spot. Anyway the other 4 passenger doors have several warning signals. From low ibeeping to very loud annoying audio sounds that you cannot ignore. I’ve contacted Hyundai Motor America and they’ve denied my complaint. They claim that the extent of the “warning is a red light on the dash”. My local dealership kept my Tucson for 11 days not knowing what to do and how to resolve this problem. I’ve come to reply on the audio warning system, and as a Senior Citizen, not to look at the dash to prevent collisions. This is very serious ,especially, if that door is not locked while I’m driving, any thing can push open the door, resulting in injury or death to people in the vehicle or on the road. This is compounded by the fact that Hyundai produces many types of SUVs, including Genesis.

My 2019 Hyundai Tucson previously required an engine replacement due to a known defect. After the engine replacement, the check engine light remained on. Recently, the check engine light began flashing, and the vehicle was towed to the dealership. I was informed the vehicle has a radiator/cooling system failure. Given the history of engine defects and warning lights, I am concerned about vehicle safety and reliability.
