It is impossible to see through the back window when it rains. It has no wiper--and unlike other cars, it is not aerodynamic and does not push rain off the back windshield. When it rains, you cannot see anything. Due to the location of the backup camera, it also becomes wet and you cannot see anything when doing in reverse through the window or backup camera when it's raining.

Drove less than one mile and the car suddenly dropped from 45 mph to 20 and would not accelerate (I was almost rear ended by a bus). I was able to pull off the road and the battery died.

Received orange warning “Power limited”. A minute or so later received RED warning “Stop vehicle and check power supply”. Less than a minute later the car stopped and turned off completely, even the HAZARD lights would not flash. Tow truck was unable to tow because the car could not be taken out of park, wheels locked. Also, as soon as the warnings started the power steering failed and the car was very difficult to maneuver. The combination of difficult maneuvering followed by unable to move could be VERY dangerous in the wrong situation.

Hyundai has absolutely dropped the ball on this Ioniq 5's ICCU and 12V battery issue. After numerous recalls to fix a hardware problem through a series of software fixes that don't work and refusal to give a loaner for loss of use, I would like to pursue a buyback option for this vehicle. On Tuesday, [XXX], I went to Napleton Valley Hyundai in Aurora, IL to complete RECALL CAMPAIGN #272 NHTSA RECALL # 24V868000. After the recall, my 12V battery went dead on Wednesday, [XXX] and had to be towed to dealership. Their only solution was yet another software update and then charge the 12V and said it was ready for pickup on Thursday, December 5. I told them then to also do a wheel alignment and they said during that process, the 12V battery went down again. They then charged it back up and gave it back to me and said it was good. I encouraged them to pursue a better solution but they had no interest. So, it was picked up on Friday, [XXX]. On Saturday [XXX], the 12V battery went dead again and will have to be towed back to the dealership. Over the phone, my service advisor said it would have to be charged and released. If this issue then happens again, then a replacement might be considered. Calls to Hyundai North America headquarters have not yielded any results and they claim they need 3 business days to assign my case while I have no working car. Hyundai issued TSB 22-01-094H for my vehicle which is an update to the battery management system,, but after 4 attempts Hyundai dealerships have still not been able to complete the TSB. Hyundai corporate has also not helped after multiple cases. After many hours of research, I have determined that my vehicle's BMS software was updated to an intermittent version (version 700x) that does not support this TSB via automatic update, and the correct BMS Rom (version 540x) must be selected manually, which the dealerships are unwilling or unable to do.

1. Brake Failure: recently when my brakes stopped responding while driving. The pedal went all the way to the floor, and I barely managed to stop the car. 2. Knocking sound when braking: I started to notice a clunking/knocking sound that would occur when braking and just about coming to a stop.

When driving in i-Pedal, which is a "one pedal driving option", sometimes after pausing the car rolls backs several inches. This appears to be a defect with the powetrain, regenerative braking engine, or otherwise. Hyundai's dealership has been advised of this issue; they have escalated this internally. A car in drive forward should never due to electrical or software reasons be told to move backwards -- which is what is happening here.

On [XXX], I was driving my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL when all of a sudden the car started beeping and displaying a 12V battery voltage low. Stop safely message. I was traveling on [XXX] in the Las Vegas area and the car all of a sudden came shut off seconds later. This presented a very dangerous situation with other vehicles traveling at 65+ mph and the vehicle shutting off. I was able to use a portable power jump starting pack to at least get the car restarted and pulled off the side of the highway. Even after jump starting the vehicle, it would only stay running for a minute before shutting off again. The is the second time in 2 months that my car has lost power. The dealer, ABC Hyundai in Las Vegas did a ICCU recall and said that would solve the problems. The problem has not been resolved and I do not feel this is a safe vehicle to drive. My new 2023 IONIQ 5 became inoperable on 3 occasions when it completely lost power. This situation unquestionably impaired my safety on the first occurrence of power failure that happened without warning while I was driving; fortunately, I was able to coast to the side of the road without incident. In my repair visits to Hyundai dealers, the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) updated (twice) and the depleted 12-volt battery was charged. Repair visits resulted in loss of use of my car for a total of 31 days while it was in service. The 12-volt battery finally had to be replaced on the last dealer visit because it had could not hold a charge. The battery was barely a year old. No Hyundai dealer could assure me that the problem with the charging system was resolved. It was suggested that annual replacement of the 12-volt battery before the end of its normal lifespan might be required to avoid the serious safety risk of power failure while operating the vehicle. Hence, I am not driving my car with confidence that the safety risk risk was alleviated. I understand that Hyundai Motors acknowledged the ICCU problem and addressed it with a new ICCU in the 2025 Ioniq 5 model year. However, in my case, I have a still-new, expensive vehicle that I drive without feeling 100 percent secure that I am safe.

I started my car and after a minute I received a warning saying to check my electrical system and safely pull over. After 5 minutes of trying to drive to the dealership the car suddenly slowed down to a max speed of 27mph and then shortly after slowed to a stop and turned off. The car would not turn on and eventually the 12v battery died. I tried to jump the car but the 12v would not stay charged long enough to put the vehicle into drive. It appears the ICCU is not working and cannot keep the 12v charged to make the car function .

Hyundai of Fort Myers Repair Order Number [XXXX] Dear NHTSA Team, I am reaching out to formally report a significant safety concern involving our Hyundai Ioniq 5, which recently experienced an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure. This malfunction occurred despite our vehicle receiving all relevant software and hardware updates that Hyundai implemented to address this known issue. This experience has caused our family considerable distress and has raised serious doubts about the reliability of this model, as well as the adequacy of Hyundai’s current safety measures to prevent ICCU failure. While my wife and young daughter were in the car, the ICCU failure occurred suddenly, producing a loud pop that alarmed us all, particularly my daughter who was seated in the rear. She has since expressed fear about riding in the Ioniq 5, making it clear that this issue has impacted her sense of security in the car. Despite the updates Hyundai has issued, the failure occurred without warning, putting us in a vulnerable situation and highlighting that the current remedies may be insufficient to prevent this risk. The gravity of this problem is amplified by my wife’s critical health needs. She is currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, and our family requires a dependable vehicle to ensure she can be transported quickly and safely to her medical appointments and, when the time comes, to the hospital for her transplant. We cannot rely on the Ioniq 5 for these crucial needs given our recent experience with this unexpected breakdown. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue, as our experience suggests that Hyundai’s current measures to address ICCU failure may not adequately safeguard Ioniq 5 owners. A comprehensive review of this problem could be critical in ensuring the safety of other drivers and families who may be unknowingly exposed to the risk of sudden vehicle malfunctions. We hope that the NHTSA will consider further action

Today when I was driving down a canyon going 40 mph, the car started coasting and the accelerator was unresponsive. I couldn't keep the car from decreasing speed and regen braking wasn't working either. I don't know whether it's related, but this happened within seconds of me turning off daylight savings time in the menu. I coasted to a safe place to pull over (the brakes worked fine), but I could not get the accelerator to work after switching from drive to park to drive again. After turning the car off and then back on, the accelerator again worked like normal. After continuing driving, I turned daylight savings time on and off a few times, but nothing adverse happened.

I received this car new on 9/2/2024. I was driving at the freeway speed of traffic on 9/5/2024 when there was a sudden alarm and warning lights flashing on the dashboard with a message that said “Stop vehicle and check brake system.” At this same time, the brakes stopped functioning normally, and I had to use extreme pressure with my foot pressing down on the brake pedal all the way to the floor to have the car slow down even marginally. All of this happened with traffic in front, behind, and on both sides of me going 65 mph! I was very luckily able to maneuver to the right lane and slowly decrease speed without getting rear-ended and without slamming into a car in front of me while going at high speed unable to stop. While waiting for a tow, I left the car on, as I slowly edged forward to a safer stopping location. The flashing red ring around the message to “stop vehicle and check brake system” remained, and then just after moving forward, another message with an amber circle around it said “Check ABS system.” This latter message stayed on for only a short time, then was replaced by the initial message. I had the car towed to the dealership, and their assessment was that there was a failure of the IEP module that communicates between aspects of the braking system. The final service report is attached, confirming the need for replacement of the IEP assembly. I was very lucky to come away from this event with nothing more than a very frightening experience. I hope that this report will initiate a recall to prevent a similar situation happening to someone else, and hopefully avoid tragedy involving serious injury or death.

The lower control arm broke off of the subframe during daily commute on the highway, which left the car completely immobilized and had to be towed. The incident could've been a lot worse if I had lost control of the car and swerved into others on the road. vehicle is currently being inspected by Hyundai dealership. Prior to the incident, there were no warning lights or symptoms.

- #11622163October 27, 2024LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
Vehicle disengaged lane keeping ADAS without warning multiple times. Sometimes a warning beep would occur, but often on turns it would suddenly disengage without a beep or any other warning method causing me to have to yank the wheel to complete the turn correctly and avoid running off the road. This has caused me to not trust the system and fight the lane keeping feature just in case it suddenly turns off and goes into the other lane before I have a chance to correct the steering.
