- #11688022September 18, 2025BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
On August 9th at 5:30PM roughly, while attempting to park using the vehicle’s Park Assist feature, the system failed to function properly—specifically, it failed to detect a pole at the rear of a parking space, did not slow or brake the vehicle, and was not even aware it would contact the pole. It then collided with the pole. Also, intermittently the forward collision alert system either does not alert for similar circumstances as it just previously did. Seem untrustworthy. Scary. GM's product allegation team (PAC) had all of the necessary information to show the system does not work 100% of the time (I have it all on video and submitted that) and they denied my claim and refused to admit a system failure even when given the videos showing the park assist failing to engage properly ON VIDEO.

- #11685829September 8, 2025VISIBILITY/WIPER
This has occurred multiple times but while driving in the rain the wipers will stop on the middle of the swipe for a couple seconds and then start moving again. It is terrifying since a few seconds of zero visibility when it is raining with no wipers could cause me to run off the road or run into oncoming traffic.

My 2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali is part of the April 2025 recall for the 6.2L V8 engine defect. The dealership confirmed the engine must be replaced, but the part is on backorder, potentially for several months. In the meantime, GMC only authorized a GMC Acadia as a courtesy vehicle. The Acadia is not comparable to our Yukon XL. We are a family of six, and while the Acadia has a third row, there is almost no cargo space with it in use. Our Yukon XL has over three times the cargo capacity, which is necessary for safely transporting luggage and sports equipment during our frequent trips (2–3 times per month). Because of this, we have already been forced to rent a larger SUV at our own expense for a recent trip. GMC’s Courtesy Transportation Program states that owners should receive comparable transportation during recall repairs. Despite escalating through the dealership, GMC Customer Assistance, and even the regional manager, we were denied a comparable loaner or guaranteed rental coverage. This leaves our family in an unsafe and impractical situation while waiting months for the recall repair.

At highway speed, in heavy traffic, and falling snow, the engine seized with sudden loss of power, including loss of brake and steering sensitivity. We were traveling downhill so, while avoiding other traffic and weather, maintained momentum to pull over to the side. We were stranded at night in snowy weather in remote Utah. It took hours to get towed to the nearest town, Fillmore, where the mechanic determined that the engine was seized and that no mechanic in the town could repair the issue. GM would not tow vehicle to our home, they would only tow to nearest dealership - which was farther away from our home (over 3 hours away). After repeated attempts with GM for tow assistance over the course of 13 days, we towed the vehicle to Salt Lake City, our home city at our own expense. The Dealer said 6 of 8 rod bushings were bad, ordered a new engine which took over 2 months to receive and install. Catastrophic event occurred [XXX], Time trying to get GM to tow vehicle, ending with our own expense 2/26/2025, Finally returned from dealership with new engine 5/1/2025 - 64 days from dealership receipt of vehicle - 77 days from catastrophic event. Continues to have electrical issues that affect controls like radio, ac/heat, start/stop. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The blinker randomly stops alerting. The blinker will still flash but the audio will cut off and stop working randomly. I have brought this to my local GMC dealer, whom I bought the car from, twice now with no resolution. The service department can’t figure out what is causing the issue. I have video evidence upon request.

The V8 engine on our family's 2019 GMC Yukon Denali XL check engine light came on and began ticking while taking our daughter to college in Montana. The dealer informs us the engine has probable lifter failure and will need to be disassembled to diagnose additional issues. The estimated repair costs are from $3,000 to $10,000+, may require a new engine, and we will be without the vehicle for almost two months. We are incurring additional costs such as lodging, airfare to fly home, costs for an additional car, and storage for a travel trailer that must remain behind. The warranty on our vehcle expired last year. The vehicle has been consistantly serviced at our local dealer. Research and discussions with other GM customers inform us this is a known issue for our year and that a recall was issued for vehicles for 2021 to 2025.

- #11683684August 28, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The driver-side headlight and turn signal on my 2022 GMC Yukon stopped functioning completely. This issue began before GM recall 22V‑903 and worsened immediately after the recall repair was performed. The recall repair required three separate dealership visits because it was initially performed improperly, yet the problem was never fully resolved. During interactions with GM and the dealership, I was told the repair might involve a $600 part, but they could not guarantee that replacing it would fix the issue. It is unreasonable and unsafe for me to be expected to cover the cost of repairs for a problem that was caused or worsened by a recall repair performed incorrectly. The malfunction creates a serious safety hazard, as oncoming drivers cannot see my turn signals, and I nearly had an accident because of it. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership and documented in GM Case #74327012. Prior to complete failure, the driver-side turn signal and daytime running lights occasionally stayed on after shutting off the vehicle which I was told that was caused by the recall. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized GM dealerships multiple times, but the defect persists. The component is available for inspection upon request.

- #11683646August 28, 2025ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact received notice of NHTSA ID Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, he and his wife observed noises emanating from the engine compartment. On another occasion while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled, and a "transmission unable to shift" message appeared. The gear selector was placed in park (P), and the vehicle was restarted, after which it drove normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but it was not diagnosed due the manufacturer only allowing certain vehicle to be repaired at this time, even with the failures that had transpired, and no repairs were made at that time. The contact stated that while driving home in pitch darkness at approximately 30 MPH on a windy road, the vehicle stalled. While attempting to steer the vehicle off the road, it remained halfway in the street and nearly caused over 15 accidents. One near-accident involved a motorcyclist who came around a turn, narrowly missed the vehicle, fell into the street, and was almost hit by oncoming traffic. No police reports were filed as the police could not assist at that time. The contact and her daughter did not sustain injuries but were severely traumatized. It was uncertain if the motorcyclist sustained injuries. The contact stated that when the vehicle was being towed, it would not go into neutral, and the contact observed the frame cracking while being hauled on the tow truck. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

I was driving down the highway, and my wife and I decided to stop at Costco to get protein bars and gas for the drive home. We also had a [XXX] , [XXX] old, and [XXX] in the car. As we were approaching the end of the exit ramp at approximately 30 miles per hour, the engine jerked the car two or three times then died. When it died, I lost power steering and the car slammed to a stop. The car also displayed an alert about my tow breaking system. I tried to restart it, and smoke began rising from my engine bay. I stopped trying to restart, and got my family onto the hill beside the exit while waiting for a tow. The tech at the GMC dealer stated that the engine had seized on me while driving. The cam shaft can rotate a small amount one way before getting blocked, and likewise the other way. Tech believes that the bearing is responsible, but will not be doing a tear down until September 2. The contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the transmission shifted hard from first to second gear while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving 80 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The vehicle was taken to an independent and several internal parts of the transmission were replaced, and the Transmission Control Module (TCM) was also replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where the contact was informed that the repairs had not addressed the cause of the failure. The contact was informed that the failure was likely related to the transfer case. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 161,000.

On Thursday August 14 while driving our traction control light and engine light came on along with the ESC light while traveling out of state. The car felt like we were driving on a rumble strip. We immediately took it to the nearest auto repair shop, only a few minutes away. They reset the battery and dash lights and we took it for a test drive. All the lights came back on after a couple of feet and loud knocking sounds started. Our emissions light then also came on and a strong exhaust smell was emitted. Each time the engine was started the knocking grew louder and the engine was severely struggling and sounded very wrong . The shop put their diagnostic tool to use and identified misfiring on cylinder 5. Upon further inspection they identified camshaft irreparable failure. We had it towed to the Platteville WI GMC Dealership Friday Aug 15. Where they confirmed camshaft failure and informed us our engine needed total replacement. Our safety was at risk since our engine failed while exiting the highway.
