My 2020 GMC Acadia slt has a a warning message that pops up on the dash display which reads power steering operating at reduced assistance. Please proceed with extreme caution. At high speeds the wheel kinda pulls and is loose for handling. It also atfff conley buick out by the conley buick sericexx2020 acadias. I don't not54⁴ lower rates of speed becomes extremely hard to maneuver . Almost zero ability to turn the steering wheel. I'm disabled and really can't afford the costly repair. It seems to be a very dangerous problem and well known to compromise ones ability to control the 2020 Acadia danalis. I had my suv ckd out at conley buick the results were power steering module needs to be replaced. When driving down the road the steering becomes dangerously loose especially

Gear shift fails to register that it’s in fact in park position on gear shift but dash message reports “shift to park”, and warning beeping sound won’t stop and doors won’t lock. After restarting and reshifting the gears and / or pressing gear shift button up to 20 times or more until the dinging noise stops and only then can the car be locked. Everyday since 4/20/2025

In March of 2022 at around 79,000 miles, the temperature gauge was intermittently stuck on cold with the cooling fan constantly running and “steering assist reduced” displayed in the DIC. The car was found to have a bad thermostat which was replaced at the dealership on 3/28/2022. About 2 months ago the car started doing the same exact thing again. I have an appointment at the same dealership on March 23. It is likely the same problem again and I have only driven about 50,000 miles since the last time it was fixed. The car is now out of warranty. This is apparently a common recurrent with these model cars. There is in fact a service bulletin released about this very issue. GMC should replace and repair this issue since it is clearly a flaw.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that for several years, the headlight bulbs were replaced several times. The contact used several different brands of headlight bulbs, but the bulbs failed prematurely. The contact stated that the headlight bulbs were dim while using the low beam or the high beam headlights. Additionally, the turn signals failed to properly operate while engaging the turn signal lever. The contact stated that the sound for the turn signals was occasionally inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the same independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

The contact stated that while shifting into park(P), the gear shift indicator failed to display that the vehicle was in park(P) on the instrument panel, even though the vehicle was in park(P). The gear shifter was shifted continuously until the gear shift indicator recognized that the vehicle was in park(P) on the instrument panel. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Shift to park error on dashboard When turning the car off and it is in park, the car does not register that it is in park and continues to run electronics in the car. Causing the car to show the error on the dashboard. This runs the battery down and car may jump out of park and roll. Asked dealer to look at it and they refused due to it not being on the recall list for my vin #. No, dealer refused and no other person will touch this issue, since its electronic in the vehicle and only the dealer can fix. Had it to another repair shop that informed me of this information. No known abnormalities prior to the incident that occurs every time you try to shut off the vehicle. Causing several attempts to turn the car off and make sure it is off and does not move on its own.

The contact owns a 2025 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH at nighttime, there was an abnormally loud explosion and the contact became aware that the sunroof had exploded unexpectedly, causing shattered glass to fall inside the vehicle onto the contact's head, face, and body. The contact stated that two of her children were occupying the third-row seats when the failure occurred. The contact stated that a larger quantity of shattered glass fell near or in the car seat of the contact's son, who was not occupying the vehicle during the failure. There was no reported injury. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the sunroof needed to be replaced; however, the repair was not covered under warranty. The contact was referred to the insurance company for assistance. The dealer informed the contact that an engineering inspection had been requested. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed that the vehicle could be repaired under warranty at the discretion of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

The engine temperature gauge was reading cold when driving for 40 minutes and the fan was running on high. Also said steering assist reduced. Brought it in and had to replace the thermostat, because of the code they received. That fixed the issue.

My vehicle’s steering became dangerously stiff while driving on the highway, nearly causing my wife to be involved in a serious accident. While she was traveling on I-95 in Miami, Florida, the steering suddenly got so hard that she could barely control the vehicle and was unable to turn the wheel properly. This created an extremely dangerous situation and put her life, as well as the lives of others on the road, at risk. She was thankfully able to get off the highway, and I had to come take over the vehicle to make sure she got home safely. This was terrifying and completely unacceptable. A failure like this should never happen while a vehicle is in motion. When I took the vehicle to the dealership, I was told I would have to pay over $3,500 for the repair. That is outrageous for such a serious safety issue. I also found information online showing recalls for similar steering problems in GMC Yukons, yet GMC Arcadias do not appear to be included. That is deeply concerning, especially since this same dangerous defect is clearly affecting my vehicle. This issue could have caused a major crash, severe injuries, or even death. GMC needs to take responsibility for this problem instead of forcing customers to pay thousands of dollars for a dangerous defect that should be addressed as a safety recall.

Dear General Motors Customer Assistance Center, I am writing to formally file a complaint and request assistance regarding a serious mechanical failure with my 2018 GMC Acadia SLT. I purchased this vehicle when it had approximately 7,000 miles on it after it was transported from Florida. Since owning the vehicle, I have properly maintained it and had it serviced through Suttle Motors dealership in Newport News, Virginia. Recently, while driving on the highway to have tires installed, the vehicle suddenly stalled while I was in traffic. This caused a very dangerous situation, as traffic behind me was forced to abruptly slow down and I was nearly rear-ended due to the sudden loss of power. Because the vehicle was no longer drivable, I had it towed to Suttle Motors for inspection. After examining the vehicle, the service department informed me of the following issue: “The transmission solenoid valve is stuck and it has burnt the transmission fluid. The vehicle will require a full transmission replacement. The estimated cost is $7,769 with a 3-year/100,000-mile warranty.” I was extremely shocked and disappointed to receive this news. My vehicle currently has only 67,000 miles, and I have taken care to maintain it properly through the dealership. Experiencing a complete transmission failure at such relatively low mileage is very concerning, especially considering the dangerous situation it created on the highway. Given the circumstances, I am requesting that General Motors review this matter and advise whether any goodwill assistance, repair support, or coverage options may be available to help resolve this issue. I would greatly appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. I can provide service records and documentation from Suttle Motors if needed. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.

The torque converter in the transmission has been vibrating for over a year now. I can imagine it is causing more damage to the rest of the transmission. Now I can feel the shifting starting to get rough, loss of power, and dark transmission fluid. I had the problem confirmed with an independent service center. There have been no warning lamps as of yet. But it's only a matter of time that I will need a torque converter replacement and/or full transmission replacement.

The contact owns a 2020 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the doors failed to open from outside the vehicle while using the key fob or while attempting to open the doors manually. The contact entered the vehicle from the rear hatch door and discovered that the door lock and unlock buttons were inoperable. The contact pulled the door handle to manually open the door from the inside. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 68,140.

Owner of a 2019 GMC Acadia Denali (VIN: [XXX] , current odometer ~87,164 miles), purchased new. In early February 2026, the check engine light came on. Independent diagnostic scan confirmed persistent P0420 code (“Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1”) as current, history, pending, and permanent. Inspection showed the front exhaust pipe bracket had snapped, damaging the flex pipe and causing an exhaust leak. This failure mode directly triggers the P0420 code and requires replacement of the bracket and affected flex pipe section. This is a known recurring issue on GM’s Lambda-platform vehicles (shared platform, 3.6L V6 engine, and exhaust system design). GM Special Coverage Adjustment N212356540 covers 2019 Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave models for front exhaust pipe bracket separation (resulting in pipe damage, holes, leaks, rattling, or efficiency codes), providing free repair for 15 years or 150,000 miles from in-service date, regardless of ownership. The failure on this Acadia is mechanically identical, yet the model is excluded from coverage despite matching part design and numerous similar owner complaints documented on NHTSA and BBB reports. Multiple attempts were made to resolve through the selling dealership (no response to service inquiries). Matter was escalated to GM Executive Resolution. GM required a redundant diagnostic scan at an authorized dealer (additional cost incurred), despite independent confirmation of the issue. GM ultimately denied any coverage, TSB applicability, goodwill assistance, or further support. The snapped bracket and resulting exhaust leak can produce noise, fumes in cabin, potential component damage, and emissions noncompliance via false/legitimate catalyst efficiency codes. Inconsistent application of coverage for the identical defect across equivalent Lambda-platform models raises concerns about a widespread safety/emissions issue affecting 2019 GMC Acadia. Car has had multiple issues with check engine light coming on for the last 2 years and stays on especially during the winter months. The purge pump has failed multiple times. The cooling fan has run after engine shutting off for multiple years now. The thermostat has been failing for the last 6 months. Now yesterday low power protection suddenly turned on driving on the expressway limiting power in the middle of traffic. Was able to get off at exit without accident and get car home. I guess we have to pay out of pocket to get fixed. This is a known issue that GM fails to include every VIN with the 2021 year or certain models and VINS.
