The old position sensor is removed by unbolting two mounting bolts.

A new position sensor is installed, with its two mounting bolts loosely tightened initially. The manual valve is then turned two detents counter-clockwise to place it in the Neutral position, ensuring it aligns 90° to the radiator. An alignment tool (part numbers 09459-4G100 or 09459-4G200, depending on the model) is used to align the transmission hole and the position sensor. The two bolts securing the position sensor are then tightened to 7-9 lb-ft (1.0-1.2 kgf.m, 10-12 N.m).

After reconnecting the position switch connector, the manual valve is turned two detents clockwise back to the Park position. The electronic shift actuator is reinstalled and torqued to 15-19 lb-ft (2-3 kgf.m, 21-26 N.m), and its harness tab is reconnected. All previously removed parts are reinstalled in reverse order, and radio stations are reset.

Finally, the DTCs are cleared, and the vehicle is test-driven for two key-on to key-off driving cycles. If the DTCs do not reappear, the repair is complete. If DTCs recur, the control wiring between the PCM or TCU and the position sensor should be repaired or replaced. If the DTCs still persist after wiring repair, the PCM (ECU/TCU) or TCU itself may need replacement.
