2021-2024 Audi A7 e / Q5 e DTC U041300 Battery Control Module

Audi has released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2068630/4 to address various diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that can lead to a "yellow warning lamp in instrument cluster" and a "no start" condition in certain 2021-2024 Audi A7 e and Q5 e models. This TSB, dated July 31, 2024, supersedes previous bulletin 23-14 from May 30, 2023. The primary issue revolves around a software error affecting the Battery Energy Control Module "B" and related hybrid system components, often triggering DTC U041300.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may experience the following issues:

• A "Yellow warning lamp in instrument cluster" illuminates.
• The vehicle "can no longer be started."

Fault Codes / DTCs

Technicians may find one or more of the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM) J623, Electric Drive control unit J841, or hybrid battery management control module J840:

• U041300: "Invalid Data Received from Battery Energy Control Module “B” with symptom code 23085." This code is typically found in diagnostic addresses 0001 and/or 0051.
• P0A9500: "High Voltage Fuse (symptom 28730) passive/intermittent." This code is stored in diagnostic address 008C.
• P0E2E00: "Battery Charger “A” Fuse (symptom 28733) passive/intermittent." This code is also stored in diagnostic address 008C.
• P0B1300: "Hybrid Battery Pack Current Sensor “A/B" Correlation (symptom 14348)." Found in diagnostic address 008C.
• P0AC00: "Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor “A” Circuit Range/Performance (symptom 14340)." This code is stored in diagnostic address 008C.
• P0A7E00: "Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Over Temperature (symptom 28706)." This code may be logged in some cases.

Important Warnings

Audi has issued critical advisories for this repair:

• "To prevent the high-voltage battery from charging during the software update, the high-voltage charging cable on vehicles with high-voltage components must be unplugged BEFORE the SVM code is entered. Charging the high-voltage battery during a software update can cause damage to the high-voltage components."
• For DTCs P0E2E00, P0B1300, and P0AC00, the TSB explicitly states: "However, replacing the part will not solve the problem." This refers to the switching unit for the high-voltage battery (SX6), which Guided Fault Finding might incorrectly suggest replacing.

Diagnosis

The issue is attributed to a software error. Technicians will confirm the presence of the customer's reported symptoms and the stored DTCs. The switching unit for the high-voltage battery (SX6) might show software version 106/206. Technicians can check the software version using ODIS guided functions by navigating to "Diagnostic address 008C," then "Guided Function," and finally "Read identification" to display data of sub-systems.

For SVM Update Option 2, two SVM codes may be required in a specific order. For Q5 TFSIe, Old Software Part Number 4M0915233R (versions 0273 or 0274) updates to 4M0915233AE (version 0278) with SVM Code 8CA011.
