Symptoms

Owners of certain 2021-2022 Audi models may experience an issue where the MMI display turns completely blue. This condition manifests as the entire infotainment screen, whether a single or dual-screen setup, showing a solid blue color, rendering it unusable. This is commonly referred to as the "Audi MMI blue display" problem. The bulletin includes visual examples of both dual and single-screen vehicles exhibiting this blue display.

Technical Background

Audi has identified that the "Audi MMI blue display" issue stems from a problem within the display driver software. This software anomaly causes the MMI displays to unexpectedly turn blue, impacting the functionality and visibility of the infotainment system.

Production Solution

For newer vehicles, an updated software solution has already been implemented in Model Year 2022 production. This means vehicles manufactured in MY22 and later should not experience the "Audi MMI blue display" issue due to this specific cause.

Important Warnings

Audi has provided specific instructions for this condition that owners and technicians should note:

• "Do not replace any components for this condition since this will not resolve the customer's concern." This means that replacing the MMI unit or other display components will not fix the underlying software issue.
• A permanent software solution for affected vehicles is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2022.

Service Procedure and Owner Action

If your 2021-2022 Audi MMI display turns completely blue, a temporary workaround is available:

1. Workaround: Reset the MMI system by pushing and holding the On/Off/Volume button for 10 seconds or more. The MMI should then reboot and function normally afterward. This reset is intended as a temporary measure until a permanent software update is available.
2. Customer Communication: Audi advises technicians to explain to customers that a permanent solution is forthcoming for the first quarter of 2022. It is crucial to inform customers that no repairs are necessary at this point, and specifically, that no components should be replaced for this condition, as it will not resolve the concern.
3. Dealer Documentation: Dealerships are instructed to create a PSS (Pending Service Solutions) record when a customer reports the "Audi MMI blue display" concern.
