Symptoms

Owners of 2023-2024 BMW X1 and X2 models may notice that the Central Information Display (CID) takes a significantly long time to load. The start-up animation can remain on the CID for more than 30 seconds before the system fully initializes. This issue is specifically referred to as "LONG INITIAL LOADING TIME FOR HU-H6" by BMW.

Cause

The root cause of the prolonged loading time for the Central Information Display is identified as unfavorable software within the HU-H6 head unit. This software condition prevents the system from booting up efficiently.

Repair Procedure Summary

The correction for the BMW X1 long CID loading issue involves programming the head unit (HU-H6) with updated software. Technicians will first determine the vehicle's current I-level using applications like AIR or the Key Reader/AWP.

If the I-level is lower than U006-23-11-558, the vehicle's head unit will be programmed to I-level U006-23-11-558 or higher. This programming is performed using ISTA 4.45.3x, a software version released on January 30th, 2023, or newer. The process includes connecting a battery charger and the programming system (ISTA 4) to the vehicle, determining a measures plan, and working through the plan to program, encode, and enable the control units. A vehicle test and fault memory deletion are performed after the programming is complete.

Important Warnings

BMW Technical Service Bulletin SIB 65 04 24 includes critical instructions for technicians and owners:

  • If the vehicle's I-level is currently at U006-23-11-558 or a more recent version, do not program the vehicle; instead, continue with standard diagnosis.
  • During the programming process, always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) to maintain stable voltage.

Required Tools or Parts

To perform this repair, technicians will need:

  • ISTA 4.45.3x or higher programming software.
  • A BMW-approved battery charger/power supply, as referenced in SI B04 23 10.
