Symptoms
Owners of 2024-2025 BMW X1 (U11), X2 (U10), and X3 (G45) vehicles equipped with the HU-H6 head unit may experience problems connecting their Android devices. The primary symptoms include situations where "a mobile device with Android operating systems (Google, Samsung, etc.) may not be able to connect to the vehicle" or an "Android phone may not be able to connect via Android Auto."
Cause
BMW has identified the root cause of these connection problems as unfavorable Bluetooth communication between the Head Unit 6 (HU-H6) and the Android mobile device. This communication issue prevents a stable and reliable connection for Android Auto functionality, leading to the reported connection failures.
Important Warnings
BMW Service Information Bulletin SIB 65 10 25 includes critical instructions for technicians. If your vehicle's I-level software is already at version 25-07-530 or a more recent version, technicians are advised to "Do not program the vehicle" and instead proceed with standard diagnostic procedures. During any programming work, it is essential to "Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10)" to maintain stable voltage throughout the process.
Repair Procedure Summary
To address the BMW X1 Android Auto connection issue, technicians will first determine the vehicle's current I-level software version. This is done using BMW's diagnostic tools such as AIR or the Key Reader/AWP (Aftersales Workplace) applications. If the I-level is found to be lower than version 25-07-530, the HU-H6 head unit software will be updated.
The programming involves updating the vehicle to I-level 25-07-530 or higher, utilizing ISTA 4.54.3x (with a release date of July 7, 2025) or a newer version of the ISTA programming system. The process requires connecting a battery charger to the vehicle and then connecting the ISTA 4 programming system. Technicians will then determine and execute a measures plan, which includes programming, encoding, and enabling the relevant control units. They must also follow any rework lists and, depending on the list, perform a vehicle test and delete any stored fault memory. After the software update is complete, the functionality of the system must be thoroughly checked.
Claim Information and Warranty
This service is identified by Repair Code 6512580200 with the fault label "Headunit High HU-H Software error / internal device fault." The repair is considered both mobile friendly and remote software upgrade (RSU) friendly. For warranty claims, specific labor operations are provided:
