2021-2022 Audi Driver Assist Malfunction DTC B200FF9

Audi has released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) PSS 90 2061489/2 to inform technicians and owners about sporadic malfunctions in the pre sense and other driver assistance systems. This issue is often accompanied by a specific diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and various warning messages displayed in the instrument cluster. The TSB, issued on February 9, 2021, supersedes an earlier bulletin, Group 90 number 20-80, dated November 24, 2020.

This TSB applies to certain 2021-2022 Audi A6, A7, A8, S6, S7, S8, Q7, Q8, SQ7, SQ8, RS 6 Avant, RS 7, RS Q8, e-tron, and e-tron Sportback models. The underlying cause is identified as the control module's diagnostic checks being overly sensitive, leading to false alerts.

Symptoms

Owners may experience their vehicle's driver assistance systems sporadically not working. When this occurs, one of the following messages may appear in the instrument cluster:

• "Audi adaptive light malfunction."
• "Audi pre sense system malfunction."
• "Adaptive vehicle assistance restricted."
• "Adaptive vehicle assistance Predictive regulation restricted."

Typically, these systems become available again after an ignition cycle or when the vehicle enters bus sleep.

When the driver assistance systems malfunction, the following diagnostic trouble code (DTC) may be stored sporadically in the driver assistance systems control module, J1121 (address word 00A5):

• B200FF9 (internal malfunction) with symptom code 2117657.

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

The technical background indicates that the control module's diagnostic checks are too sensitive, leading to the sporadic activation of the fault. This sensitivity causes the system to register a malfunction even when there isn't a persistent hardware failure. The Audi e-tron B200FF9 malfunction, along with other affected models, is a result of this over-sensitive diagnostic programming.

Audi has provided a critical instruction regarding this condition:

• Do not replace any components for this condition since this will not resolve the customer's concern.

Manufacturer's Remedy

Audi states that a solution is forthcoming for the 4th quarter of 2021. Until then, no repairs are necessary for this condition.
