I’ve submitted this before the huge recall that Toyota just announced but my truck lands a few months after the dates of this recall. I have the same symptoms and have video evidence of my truck shutting off on the highway.

- #11633887January 3, 2025ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the engine was making an abnormal knocking sound. The low-pressure warning light illuminated with a message to turn off the engine displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The dealer informed the contact that failure might be related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V381000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, after reaching out to the manufacturer, the manufacturer denied coverage under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a local dealer, Mitchell Toyota (1500 Knickerbocker Rd, San Angelo, TX 76904); who had the vehicle towed to the location. The second dealer informed the contact that there was a 2 to 3-month wait for a replacement engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,500.

Vehicle has throttle lag when pushing the accelerator. Multiple times since owning vehicle, when pushing the accelerator pedal the engine/vehical doesn’t accelerate. This normally is from a complete stop situation. I have never seen any dashboard warning lights regaurding this issue. This has created on more than a handful of occasions myself and other occupants to be put in danger. I have not had a dealer look at this issue nor have any other agencies been involved. I do believe Toyota is aware of this but have not taken my vehical in for them to look at it.

Gas pedal intermittently goes completely NON-responsive. Vehicle will not accelerate when this issue occurs. Pulling out into traffic is very dangerous when this issue happens. No errors are reported from the vehicle but the gas pedal is completely dead during the issue.

- #11632698December 27, 2024SERVICE BRAKES
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that since purchasing the vehicle, new, they noticed that when applying the brake pedal there would be a loud squeaking sound emitting from the vehicle. The failure was most prominent after the initial startup and when driving during rainy weather conditions. The contact stated the noise had increased in volume over time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the brakes had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed them of the part being recalled under warranty coverage and that the replacement would be covered. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the dealer not receiving the brake replacement parts. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4.

Multi-Media Center, displays a programmed promo for the program "Experience Drive Connect"; while the vehicle is either blue toothed or directly connected to a phone through Car Play. The screen promo pops up at the most inopportune time, sometimes repeatedly within a short period of time. This is very distracting, as it forces the driver to cancel out the screen to continue reviewing the map. The screen promo pop up has nearly caused this driver to have an accident and miss required turns during travels. Toyota is aware of the programming issue and states it cannot do anything about it. They were contacted twice, most recently on 12/11/2024, phone # 800-331-4331.

- #11629907December 10, 2024SUSPENSION
This Toyota Tundra, equipped with the specially designed air bag rear suspension, for towing, is incapable of towing anything on U.S. roads, particularly U.S, Interstates crossing our country... where a very large portion of these interstates are rutted, like a washboard, caused by over-weight trucks and the weather... and these rutted or rippled interstate roads last sometimes for hundreds of miles at a time... from western Ohio to Montana, easily 75% of the roads are in this condition. The truck is a complete hazard, and extremely dangerous to the driver and anyone else on the highway. It is dangerous to the highest degree and should not be allowed on any U.S. highway. The rear airbag suspension is controlled by a computer, this computer constantly levels the truck, and there is no way to over-ride this system/computer program. So, the truck is constantly trying to level itself. Note, this adaptive air-bag suspension is sold by Toyota as the ultimate towing machine, six years in Toyota design... yet, it is totally incapable of towing on U.S. highways, unless, of course, the roads are new and black top and totally smooth. So, this is what happens, every time the truck hits a bump, the computer tries to level the truck... when towing a trailer, in this case a 30 foot Airstream, the tounge weight is 950 pounds — so with every bump the tounge of the trailer slams down 950 pounds on the back of the truck, and the truck desperately tries to level itself. This creates some sort of synergistic response between the truck and the trailer, and the truck and the trailer start rocking back in forth in a very violent manner, and when you let off the gas and slow down, it becomes even more violent, and extremely difficult to keep on the road and in your lane... not to say, what it does to the driver, who is slammed around the cabin. This suspension was clearly designed on a computer, and never road-tested on U.S. highways and interstates in the north... It is a disaster.

The power steering failed at around 38,000 miles. The dealership indicated the entire assembly needs to be replaced which cost more than $6,000. This is apparently a known manufacturing issue as they recalled a significant portion of the vehicles made in 2021.

Vehicle had 11,000 miles on it and just was serviced at the dealership the day before. I was stopped in the middle turn lane trying to turn left. I hit the gas to cross 2 lanes of traffic and my engine stalled. I barely made it across traffic and the oncoming traffic had to slow down in order to avoid a T-bone type accident. The dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights. I still had battery power and able to slowly pull over to a side road, nothing more than 10mph. The engine would not turn over or engage. I power off the vehicle, let it sit for a couple minutes. I attempted to start the vehicle again, but there was no power to anything. I had the key fob and attempted to touch it to the start button to make sure it was in range, still nothing. I called road side assistance and had them tow the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership stated it fired right up without any issues the next morning. They could not provide a reason for the power loss or give an explanation for the warning lights because their computer did not have a history of it. I have since driven the become another 30k miles and have not experienced any loss of power. However, a safety recall for the exact motor in my truck was issued for all 2022 and 2023 tundras. The hybrid trucks were not in the recall. The incident described above was a big safety issue and very close to a bad accident. No doubt in my mind this motor is defective and it will happen again. I believe every truck with that engine should have the safety recall. I called Toyota and asked their Brand Engagement center about it, they said to write a complaint to NHTSA. The hybrid battery and motor are not even close in power to what the engine is. Surely there are more hybrid owners who have had the same problem. Please add the Hybrid Trucks to the recall. It’s the same engine. I am saving this message for future reference. If I die because of this defect, at least my family will own part of Toyota.

On [XXX] approximately [XXX], travelling on [XXX] in Florida between Ocala and Gainesville my Toyota Tundra 2022 Crew Max engine shut down and lost power. There were a few lite knocks that were heard over a few minutes and I pulled over at a gas station to check it. I turned the truck off and on again after filling the gas. I heard the knocks at low RPM but were not concerning due to the fact that once the engine turned over, they seemed to go away. I returned to [XXX] and headed towards Gainesville. At approximately [XXX], the engine made a few intermittent knocks and I looked at the RPMs and dash- no warnings were exhibited. I was boxed between 2 x 18 Wheelers, 1 behind me and one on right lane when the engine light came on and a notice stating loss of oil pressure. I went to get to the left lane having to pull in front of the 18 wheeler on right side, the engine cut power and the dash said engine was shut down. I believe the hybrid motor gave us enough momentum to cut quickly off road. In the process, the truck on the right came within touching the vehicle as it was enough to knock the bike over on the back of the truck. Prior to this event I brought the vehicle to Hedricks in Fayetteville for new tires, safety inspection and recalls to be worked off on 12NOV. This was a result of advice in terms of tires from the mechanics given the last recall I brought it in for. New tires were placed on the vehicle, 2 recalls were worked off and we had a discussion about the engine recall. I was told there was no solution yet from Toyota and that a solution would be coming. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive and was told that if there are no issues, you are fine and that it is a small percentage of vehicles that may have the issue. On 2DEC, Gatorland Toyota in Gainesville, FL, where the vehicle was left confirmed with Toyota it was the engine recall issue and that the vehicle will not be available for 3 to 9 months pending repair parts. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.
