The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle started shaking abnormally as if the vehicle was being driven over rough road surfaces. The contact started to decelerate, and several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine and the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that there were metal debris inside the engine, causing the engine to fail. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V381000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but failed to return the phone call. The failure mileage was 24,323.

I am the original owner of a brand new 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, and this issue began within the first 15,000 miles of regular dealer-maintained use. At approximately 14,800 miles, I noticed unusual and rapid outer shoulder wear on all four OEM Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 285/65R18 tires. A professional alignment inspection performed by Toyota Carlsbad dealership confirmed that the factory-set front toe angle was significantly out of Toyota’s specification (left front toe: +0.30°, right front: +0.10°, total front toe: +0.39°). This incorrect alignment was present from the factory and caused tire damage before any corrections were made. These settings match exactly what is described in Toyota Limited Service Campaign 24TD01, which applies to 2022–2023 Tundra models. However, my 2024 vehicle is not included, even though the defect and symptoms are identical. The alignment defect was confirmed and corrected by the dealership, but Toyota refused to replace the damaged tires, stating it is not a warrantable condition. However, this wear was directly caused by the misalignment on a new, factory-spec vehicle, maintained per Toyota guidelines. This condition presents a clear safety risk, as premature outer tire wear significantly reduces traction, affects handling, and increases stopping distance—especially in wet or emergency conditions. There were no warning lights or messages, making the condition undetectable until visible tire damage occurred. I filed a formal complaint with Toyota USA, but they declined further assistance. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether Toyota should expand Campaign 24TD01 to include 2024 models with the same alignment-related defect. The tires are available for inspection. I have supporting documentation including alignment reports, photos of tire wear, and communications with Toyota regarding this case #.

I was driving down the [XXX] at 70 mph when suddenly the engine just went dead. There was no PRIOR warning as the orange engine symbol came on the dash at exactly the same time as the engine died. There were other warning symbols that came on the dash also at the same time. I then had to maneuver in heavy traffic without power steering or power brake at 70 mph to the side of the road which was very difficult and I felt very unsafe. It was frightening to say the least. I called the closest Toyota Dealership located in Bristol, Tn and they sent a tow truck to pick it up and take to their shop. I am now waiting for them to determine the extent of the damage. To be clear we have documentation of every required maintenance done. This truck is about 1 1/2 yrs old with only 68,000 miles on it! The frame on my 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 has severe corrosion and multiple areas of rust perforation despite being treated under Toyota’s Limited Service Campaign D0D in 2015. During that campaign, the dealer removed the bed, documented active rust on the frame, cleaned it, and applied Corrosion-Resistant Compound (CRC) to key areas as the preventative remedy. As documented in multiple repairs the corrosion was already advancing at the time the CRC was applied, the steering shaft boot was replaced the same day as the compound was put on at 93,822 miles, several other critical safety failure shortly after; the brake pivots seized at 94900, Rotors rust pitted at 99537, bumper had perforations at 109407, 1 brake line from master cylinder and 1 brake line from ABS actuator leaking near the junction block on L/S of the frame at 113422, 52 days later the shift cable was broken at 114904. The current perforation and delamination indicate that the D0D remedy failed to prevent structural degradation as intended. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle’s structural integrity is severely compromised, creating a risk of frame failure while driving. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk due to potential loss of control or component separation. The problem has not yet been inspected by the dealer in its current condition but has been escalated to Toyota Corporate. I have attached the communications with them. The truck has been fully serviced through Toyota since new, with the last documented service in January 2021. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages prior to the failure. Visible rust first appeared prior to the D0D treatment and has now progressed to full perforation. The vehicle is currently unsafe to drive.

I recently put my boat in the water with my 2022 Toyota Tundra at local boat launch. When I put the boat in the water my truck registered a quarter tank of gas. After launching and loading the boat my truck registered a full tank of gas and would not reset or adjust the fuel gauge once it was on a level surface. I found several complaints on the Toyota forum regarding the fuel gauge improperly reading a full tank after being on an incline and not adjusting once on a level surface. I was forced to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the fuel sensor. Fast forward the truck was at the dealer on 7/28/2025 for the engine replacement. I asked them to look into the fuel gauge sensor issue and was advised that there is a Toyota TSB for the sensor and it needed a computer reflash, but would not do the reflash at their expense. This is a safety issue that if not corrected may cause individuals to run out of gas while in motion on the highways causing the vehicle to stall causing a collision or road hazard.

The hood “open” sensor failed and indicated that my hood was not properly latched. The hood was latched properly. This resulted in a loud, distracting, and constant beeping that occurs anytime the vehicle is driven over 2 mph. This beeping has the potential to interfere with the driver and may result in an accident.

I purchased the truck thinking it had 80k miles it’s was misrepresented by the dealer I got it from in reality it should’ve been 280k miles. I don’t have the money to go after them as I spent it on the truck and timing chains as well as some other repairs. They will likely flee the country if they find out I was to go after them anyway

Complaint Against: Toyota Motor North America Category: Vehicle Warranty Obligations Toyota USA Case Number: [XXX] Dealer: Toyota Carlsbad Service Advisor: Ken McDonald Date Warranty Claim Submitted: [XXX] Date of Denial: [XXX] I am filing a complaint regarding Toyota’s denial of warranty coverage for premature tire wear on all four factory-installed Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 285/65R18 tires on my 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. By 15,000 miles, I observed outer edge wear — a typical symptom of incorrect factory alignment. Following the dealer’s recommendation, I performed an alignment, and all scheduled maintenance, including tire rotations, has been completed at authorized Toyota dealerships. On [XXX], I submitted a warranty claim at Toyota Carlsbad. Ken McDonald inspected the tires and took photos, but no diagnostic work was performed — no alignment check, no suspension inspection. A month later, Toyota USA denied the claim based solely on Ken McDonald’s verbal opinion that “the problem is with the tires,” without any technical evaluation or factual basis. This is unacceptable. My issue clearly matches Toyota Service Campaign 24TD01, which confirms that certain 2022–2024 Tundra models may experience premature outer edge tire wear due to factory misalignment. My vehicle fits this description exactly. Requested Resolution: Replacement of the damaged tires under warranty or fair compensation for the financial loss. Toyota’s response represents a failure to uphold warranty obligations, raises serious safety concerns, and violates consumer rights. I respectfully request that the Better Business Bureau help ensure this case is reviewed fairly. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Soft pedal when braking goes nearly to floor before engaging. Repairs attempted flushing brakes, new brake fluid and new master cylinder at dealer still not fixed. Toyota wants to replace ABS actuator but cannot guarantee it will fix the problem. Many instances of this on Toyota and no solutions. Toyota is ignoring the problem.

I have been having issues with engine hesitation, especially when pulling out onto the highway. More noticeable as we live out of town and our entrance is on a highway curve. As when I pull out, the response time is bad and had nearly caused us to get into a accident.

Front Active Spoiler Malfunction Last week I took the vehicle into Toyota due to this malfunction message on the vehicle. The spoiler failed and remained in the down position, unknowingly causing additional damage to the spoiler flap. It was determined that the motor assembly was not working and needed to be replaced. The motor, flap and related assemblies were replaced under warranty by the dealership on 07/17/2025. Within 2 days, the spoiler was stuck in the down position again, this time without the malfunction message on the vehicle. With this being stuck in the down position, it can potentially cause more damage to the vehicle being in the down position and lead to debris in the roadway depending on the damage. Toyota manual states to avoid driving the vehicle at high speeds when this issue is present. However, owners with this issue would not know there is an issue if the vehicle is not presenting an error while functioning improperly. The vehicle is scheduled to be looked at again tomorrow 07/22/2025, at Corwin Toyota of Colorado Springs.
