On or about September 10, 2026, I was driving on the interstate at 70 MPH. Suddenly, I lost control of the steering with no prior warning or warning lights. It was obvious the power steering was not working. The power steering warning light finally came on about 15 min later. Needless to say, my reaction time to potential road hazards was greatly diminished. If my wife was driving she would not have the strength to steer. This happened on I 30 and exit 117 in Benton Arkansas while driving 70 MPH. There is a recall on my make, model and year but apparently not for my specific vehicle. It cost me $3045.75 to get it repaired. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed.

- #11768389October 1, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VISIBILITY/WIPER
Approximately 10 mins into my drive there was a burning smell in my cab, then within a few seconds there was a loud popping/exploding sound. I pulled into a parking lot within 100 feet and exited vehicle. I went to front of vehicle to see if there was smoke and after finding none I leaned back inside my truck’s cab and realized not only was the burning smell stronger but there was visible smoke lingering. At that point I saw that one of the back stationary windows was shattered. Looking closer I saw that below the window the glass was charred and the plastic trim had melted slightly. I stayed out of the vehicle and started researching the possible cause. I read several reports of issues with 5th generation Ram trucks, like mine, experienced issues like mine caused from faulty rear defrosters. After consulting with someone over the phone, I pulled the fuse for the rear defrosters to be certain there would no longer be any type of electric current flowing to the defrosters.

Case ref via phone call [XXX] 2 separate issues with the truck- automatic window controls and the braking system. I have all the repair records from the dealership and can provide them or any further information that may be needed. Automatic window control- When using, the window would start to raise and then fall back down before raising all the way up. This was an ongoing issue with the passenger window and was in the shop 5 times for repairs. On the last repair the driver window was also having the same issue. Milage at 1st repair visit 5,449. Repair dates: -September 19-22, 2025 -November 13-14, 2025 -February 6-9, 2026 -March 6-27, 2026 -June 1-5, 2026 for both windows Braking system- While driving, the parking brake will engage and turn the ignition off. The truck will then have to be restarted to continue driving. This has occurred while parking, backing up, at stop lights, and while pulling out onto the street. This is a major safety concern as it is going to cause an accident if it is not fixed. At this time the truck is in for 3rd time for this without a diagnosis. Milage at 1st repair visit 10,560. Repair dates: -August 14-18, 2026 -August 25-Sept 1, 2026 -September 8-current The dealership we work with is Larry H Miller Dodge Ram. I have documentation of everything they attempted during our repair visits. We are the original owners of this truck. On October 1, 2026, my 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel with the 5.7L HEMI eTorque mild-hybrid system failed to restart after an automatic engine stop-start event at a red light. The engine shut off as designed when I stopped. After about 90 seconds the light turned green and I released the brake, but the engine did not restart, and the truck sat motionless in the traffic lane. When I pressed the accelerator, the engine revved and the truck lurched forward unexpectedly. At that point a battery warning light and an auto stop-start warning (stop-start symbol with an exclamation mark) appeared on the dash. No warning lights appeared before the failure. I pulled over and was able to restart the truck, but the dash voltmeter read about 12.8V while running instead of the normal 14.4V, meaning the 12V battery was not being charged. I drove to my destination. After I shut the truck off and restarted it, voltage returned to about 14.4V. Note that this is not the first time this has occurred and I often keep the automatic start/stop off because it seems to have so many issues.

- #11768106September 30, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
September 14 ~10AM I was starting from a stop light wen the truck suddenly started surging and the tach showed over 4K RPM, all Gage lights were erratic, it would not accelerate, i lost power steering, and pulled the truck over and did a hard reboot (restart). While that recharged the system I had just exited a treacherous 8 mile very narrow stretch of road between Brookings and Grants Pass Oregon, that has very sharp and blind turns frequented by logging and delivery semi trucks traveling at 30-65 mile per hour depending on the section. If this had happened an hour earlier I'd be dead because there is NO WHERE to pull off. This truck now scares the life (literally) out of me. Took it to get recalls done 9-29-26 and personnel refused to answer any questions or offer help. While there a man with 22 ram diesel came complaining about exact same problems. We talked for over one hour. Now convinced this problem is larger than advertised. Interestingly i got a text asking how i like my Ram @ 10 AM the morning and time of the error. I now wonder about a hacking of the "shut down" codes by other actors. While I purchased a 7 year warranty, that will do me no good when I'm dead from this inferior truck and a corporation that is hiding and clearly refusing necessary repairs. These issues clearly demand a class action lawsuit and cash settlement to buy-back a quality product. 52K for junk truck. Telling how I REALLY FEEL!

- #11767662September 29, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, ENGINE
While going through an automatic car wash with the engine running, the transmission in Neutral, and my foot off the brake, my truck suddenly shifted into Park and shut off. When I tried to restart it, the display showed "Key Fob Not Detected," even though the fob was in my hand. It took several attempts before the truck restarted. Fortunately, the vehicle behind me did not hit me. This happened three more times before I made it out of the wash. I have since disabled the Engine Stop-Start feature and tried again, with the same result. The truck continues to shift into Park and shut off at random while in a car wash. This is a safety concern, and I would like it diagnosed and repaired.

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the messages "Service Emissions Control" and "Exhaust Filter 100 Percent Full - Service Required - See Dealer" were displayed, and there was a strong fuel odor coming through the vents while idling or while driving. Additionally, while attempting to refuel the vehicle at the gas station, fuel splashed out and the vehicle could not be refueled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone and initially informed the contact that the vehicle was still covered under Emission Recall Number: V08 and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and Emission Recall Number: V08; however, the contact was informed that the manufacturer had not approved the recall repairs. The contact called the manufacturer was advised that she would receive a call back from a supervisor; however, the contact had not been contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

- #11767814September 29, 2026FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the fuel system regulator had metal shavings inside. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, diesel fuel was leaking into the interior engine oil and black smoke was leaking from the exhaust, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The "Electronic Throttle System" message was displayed. The vehicle was towed back to the same local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a PCM failure and it was determined that the fuel system regulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under recall warranty; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the same local dealer, where it was determined that two fuel injectors, two fuel rails, and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred and the vehicle was diagnosed as needing a computer replacement. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

- #11767330September 28, 2026SUSPENSION
After driving approximately 30-45 minutes a message on the dashboard showed up saying "Immediate Air Suspension Service/Repair Required". The suspension locked up at this point. Driving down the interstate at speeds of 70 mph was not safe for the vehicle or the occupants. This problem was addressed by a licensed Ram mechanic/dealership and determined the compressor was bad as it had stored codes for overheating. A new compressor was added. A week later the same message appeared. A deeper dive was done to look for causes, and nothing could be determined. This has occurred a total of three times.

9.15.26 Vehicle came to an abrupt stop at a low speed and put auto brake on and vehicle shut off. I had to restart the vehicle manually. I had already shut of the auto shut off prior this. 9.17.26 Vehicle began to stall but started back up with gas pressure. 9.23.26 Vehicle stopped and went into auto brake, shut off at low speed again. Restarted with the start button. Got to my destination, while idle the hazards lights turned on all by itself. Also, the radio screen will flicker every now and again. 9.23.26 The vehicle was picked up by the dealership to have it looked at.

I am filing this safety complaint regarding a defective ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) on my 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie CREW CAB 5.7L Hemi with approximately 74,000 miles. DEFECT DESCRIPTION: The ABS HCU has failed, resulting in complete loss of anti-lock braking, traction control, electronic stability control, and cruise control. This is an identical failure mode to the defect addressed under NHTSA Recall 24V-896, which covered 2017-2018 Ram 2500-5500 trucks. My 2017 Ram 1500 uses the same or substantially similar HCU component and is experiencing the identical failure. SAFETY RISK: The loss of ABS, ESC, and traction control significantly increases the risk of a crash, particularly in adverse weather conditions. This is not a minor inconvenience — it is a serious safety hazard that FCA/Stellantis has already acknowledged in heavier-duty Ram platforms. MANUFACTURER KNOWLEDGE: FCA was aware of this defect as early as 2016 based on warranty claims and customer complaints. Despite issuing Recall 24V-896 for heavier Ram trucks with the same HCU failure, FCA has failed to extend recall coverage to the 2017 Ram 1500, leaving thousands of owners without remedy. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Repair estimates range from $1,200 to $2,000. The part remains on backorder or engineering hold, making timely repair impossible through normal channels. REQUESTED ACTION: I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1. Open a formal investigation into the 2017 Ram 1500 ABS HCU failures for thousands of trucks, 2. Compel FCA/Stellantis to expand Recall 24V-896 or issue a new recall to include the 2017 Ram 1500, 3. Require FCA to reimburse owners who have already paid for this repair out of pocket. I am happy to provide any additional documentation, repair invoices, or diagnostic reports upon request, or 4. Compel FCA/Stellantis to purchase defective owner vehicles at fair market value.

- #11767504September 28, 2026STRUCTURE:INTERIOR PANELS:SUN VISOR
The driver's side sun visor falls out of its anchor point and dangles from its internal wiring above the dashboard height, severely obscuring the driver's vision. This is a very unsafe condition that has happened to me while driving on several occasions. Forward vision required for safety is substantially obscured, and moving the visor from your vision or attempting to put it back in its anchor is an unsafe distraction and creates an extremely hazardous driving condition. At highway speeds, this could assuredly result in a fatal collision potentially affecting numerous nearby vehicles on the highway. I took the truck into the dealership today, and they said they had to order another visor (no idea if this is an improved version that doesn't fall out), and it was going to cost me over $400. The service technician admitted that I was the third truck THAT DAY to come in for a sun visor falling out, and it was only 9 AM.
