While driving on the freeway around 70 mph, the steering on my 2013 Ram 1500 2WD suddenly became extremely stiff and hard to turn. The red steering wheel warning light came on, and I nearly lost control. I’ve already confirmed that the battery, grounds, fuses, and alternator are all good, and this is clearly an EPS (Electric Power Steering) failure. This is a major safety concern — had there been a turn or obstacle, I could’ve crashed. I’ve found other reports online from other Ram 1500 owners with similar issues involving the EPS rack and module. Dodge dealers told me they couldn’t help or open a STAR case unless I contacted Dodge corporate. I believe this is a defect that should be investigated for recall or at least considered for a safety-related goodwill repair, especially since this failure occurred at highway speed. The fact that the entire steering system can lock or fail without warning is dangerous and unacceptable.

Our check engine light came on and we took it to get the code read. We had the code read by 3 independent sources and nothing came back on the code. There is currently a recall for this EXACT same issue with Dodge Ram 1500s from the exact same year but for some reason our truck VIN is not coming up as being on the recall. Now, we cannot pass smog in our state because the check engine light is on and the dealership does not have us on the recall for this exact issue.

Factory trailer brake controller does not work as it should. Trailer brake controller has 4 settings in owners manual they are as follows: Heavy over electric, Lite over electric, heavy over hydraulic, lite over hydraulic. My truck only has lite over electric and does not save the trailer as it should in the radio. The radio, BCM and Trailer brake control module has been replaced by Mopar under warranty to see if this fixes the problem. It has not fixed the problem. The dealership has checked all of wiring to see if this is a problem. it has not been to the dealer 8 times still has an open ticket on it. My truck is capable of carrying a load of 10,650 lbs. and needs the heavy tow brake system. I do not understand why Mopar cannot fix this issue. Dealership said that they are not going to do any more work to the vehicle for me to go get a second opinion on this problem.

2015 Ram 1500 was driven into the garage and parked. 2 weeks later when restarted, the power steering would not work. Light in dash says Service Power Steering and also the check engine light is on. Have replaced battery, and checked all fuses, which were good. Due to the fact the truck cannot be steered, am unable to take it to a dealer for service.

I was driving and my truck lost all steering. I was in the middle of turning and I was unable to steer. I was almost rear ended and broad sided at the same time. Thank God the other drivers were paying attention. I spoke with my mechanic and he said that this was a common issue with my truck and this make and model. So I went online and looked and I have attached a screenshot of what I have found.

In November 2024, my 2019 RAM Rebel displayed “SERVICE SHIFTER,” “PARKING ASSIST,” and “CHECK ENGINE” lights. Dealer performed software updates, but one week later the lights returned. Dealer then replaced the parking assist module, but two weeks later the same issue happened again. I have brought the truck in multiple times since. Often the lights turn off before arrival, and dealer states no fault can be detected. I was told to bring it in immediately when the lights are on, which I did, but still no fault found. Problem continues, and now the truck has begun putting itself into park while driving or when stopped. This is an ongoing and serious safety hazard.

In September 2016 I purchased a new RAM 1500 echo diesel. On [XXX], I driving along [XXX] in southern Indiana. I lost all power, smoke started coming thru the dash vents, I get off the road, shut the engine off, raise the hood, a little smoke was coming from under the engine cover, popped it off didn't really see anything burning, I opened the air filter lid and and there was smoke, I blew the smoke out of it and replaced it. I got back in the truck, it started but still had no power. It idled fine. I called and towed it to John Jones Auto Group in Corydon, IN, this was all on [XXX]. I was contacted 30 June 2025 that the Intake Manifold had failed and needed to be replaced. I gave them the go ahead to replace it. They called me and told me it was ready. the following week and told the Intake Manifold failed and needed to be replaced. I gave them go ahead to repair it. They told me the Intake manifold replaced and ready for pick-up. When I went to pick it up, on 22 July 2025. The Tech showed me the intake manifold; it looked like it had melted. He also said the water pump was leaking and should be replaced. I paid for the repair for the intake manifold, left the truck and drove my car home, intending to have someone run me there and I would drive the RAM home. After thinking about a day or 2 I called John Johns and told them to go ahead and replace the water pump and took the key back to them. I didn't want it to fail when I was least expecting it. AT this point I've spent $4,750.20. They called I went and picked the truck up on 23 Jul 25, drove it home (20 miles) on [XXX] I just pulled out of my driveway, check the rearview mirror and saw all this white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I pulled over smelled the fumes it wasn’t diesel fumes, but it smell sweet. I turned around took the RAM back home and drove my car to work. I call John Jones Auto. After the advisor talked to the mechanic he told me it was normal and it was okay to drive INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA),

Air bag light came on in the instrument panel. I took it to the dealership along with oil change. They scanned the airbag problem and it came back that the passenger front seatbelt had open circuit. My vehicle is not part of the current recall for this issue. I want to let you know that my build of my vehicle should fall under the current recall for the ongoing build dates with this issue.

Failure of the Motor Generator Unit (MGU). This part is available for inspection and review. The failure of this component can result in complete immobilization of the vehicle which poses a significant safety risk for users and pedestrians alike. The problem has been a wide-spread issue for the Ram 1500 series. This issue was acknowledged by Ram and Stelantis. Ram has reviewed my MGU and confirmed that the component is faulty. The only warning was a whining noise and then the vehicle became completely incapacitated.

The NoLimitz module cause my vehicle to shut off while in motion 1 time, and lose critical controls to safely operate the vehicle while in motion twice (power steering, gauge cluster, power brakes). Even though the engine still ran, once shut off it would not start again or go into neutral. I conclude the issue was the device as the power light on it was off (it should remain on when the ignition is in run or ACC as stated on the instructions from the manufactory). Once I un-plugged and re-plugged the module back in, everything returned to normal other than DTCs.
