While driving under normal conditions, the engine began misfiring and losing power. Inspection revealed that two of the spark plugs had suffered a broken ceramic insulator, which likely occurred during a pre-ignition or detonation. As a result, the ceramic insulators were pushed through the engine causing at least one of the exhaust valves to burn leading to loss of compression resulting in engine failure on the highway. This engine has no current recall, despite numerous similar complaints. Hyundai has issued detonation-related recalls for other engines (like the Theta II), yet the 1.6L Turbo GDI engine in this Tucson is also experiencing similar failures. At the time of this complaint there are 955 complaints in the NTHSA database about this vehicle with more than half citing engine failure issues — many of them sudden and severe failures while driving. This creates both a safety risk and an excessive financial burden. These failures occur without warning and can leave the driver stranded. It is concerning that Hyundai has not acknowledged a defect pattern, despite consistent failure modes being reported across this engine type. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the 1.6L Gamma II Turbo engine for potential systemic detonation or pre-ignition issues that can lead to severe engine damage. A recall or special service campaign should be considered, and Hyundai should be held accountable to cover these repairs.

The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.

The Smart Cruise Control (SCC) on my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited HEV cuts off whenever I wear prescription sunglasses. The Driver Attention Warning comes on within seconds when the in-cabin camera mounted on the steering wheel is unable to see my eyes, the SCC cuts off, and the vehicle suddenly starts breaking. This puts me and anyone behind me at risk. Both the dealership and Hyundai Motor Company have been unresponsive or unwilling to fix this widely known issue which is well documented in multiple owners' online chat groups. The dealership told me the manufacturer is responsible for fixing the problem.

The vehicle is experiencing severe engine shaking and misfiring during operation. Initial diagnostics confirmed that the spark plugs and ignition coils are functioning correctly and are not the source of the problem. A compression test revealed that two cylinders have no compression, indicating a likely internal engine failure. Potential causes include damaged or worn piston rings, valves, or a blown head gasket. This condition results in rough idling, reduced power, poor drivability, and potential long-term engine damage if not addressed promptly. Immediate engine repair or replacement is required.

For the second time in a year, I was pulling into a parking space and when I applied the brake, the car accelerated, seemed to be airborne and lurched forward. Though I firmly had my foot on the break, it would not stop until it hit a brick post about three feet away. This exact same scenario happened in July of last year. Then, I hit a stand of shrubs. Someone said, your foot must have slipped off the break and hit the accelerator. I said, “I don’t think so.” Yet, I took the blame for the accident, for I could not believe it was a car malfunction, nothing close to this had happened to me since I owned the car. Everything was the same in the last crash as in the first. This time, as soon as the car accelerated, I checked, and my foot was firmly on the break. There is definitely a malfunction in the car. The black.box Should be recovered and read by someone not associated with Hyundai. I checked on Hyundai Tucson Owners’ group on Facebook, and my incident has been reported by others.

my 2023 Hyundai Tucson has had the horn replaced twice. the technician indicated this is a common problem due to the location of the horn its susceptible to water damage rendering it useless. The horn is something rarely used and we were not aware it did not work until we tried to use it to alert a car entering our lane of traffic!

- #11668353June 21, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
1 forward collision unexpectedly slammed on the brakes when I was trying to go forward to make a left turn. There was no one in front of me nor each side of me. I had 2x4’s in my car that were thrusted forward damaging my dashboard and display. I was told to take it to the dealership on Monday 2 I was fine just hooked up, but the driver was pissed off at me thinking I was stopping short on him 3 randomly the rear sensor would go off telling me they are too close when I’m at a complete stop. It has randomly stopped short on me but I thought it might have just been an over sensitive sensor. I have previously owned an Ioniq 5 and the sensor would never stop going off even if I was 2 car lengths away. 4 the car is going back to the dealership on Monday so it has not been expected yet 5 exactly 6 days after purchasing the car the airbag indicator showed up on my dashboard while I was driving. I was used to the Ioniq 5 sensors always going on when I was stopped waiting for a green light that I just thought it was the same way. It had abruptly stopped on me three other times between the 6th and today the 21st. I have only had it for 3 weeks. I have never gotten any warnings before the car just slams the breaks on. After looking online about this issue I decided to make a report before I take it to the dealership so you have it on file. I am very disappointed with this vehicle and was so excited when I bought it. I have been a loyal customer of Hyundai since 2017 when I bought my first Ioniq and I have purchased 6 other cars for my family members since then. I still purchased the Tucson after having to take a 15,000 loss because the Ioniq 5 never held its value. Now I’m wondering if I should switch manufacturers

If someone is making a right turn in front of me and I am on the brakes already slowing down The emergency braking will engage and lock the brakes to stop it It does not seem to detect the fact the car is making a turn that will be complete before you are up to them. This has happened 4 times now and I have almost been rear ended. I can duplicate it pretty much whenever I want and capture it on my dash cam

The vehicle does not accelerate entering roadway, transmission replaced in 2022, catalytic convertor replaced in 2024. Several instances occurred when entering highway vehicle lost power and failed to merge safely, ultimately requiring hasty exit to roadside to avoid collision. The vehicle was purchased used but has been a safety risk since purchase date. Originally diagnosed transmission, then catalytic convertor, then knock control sensor. Engine oil is replaced more often than routine maintenance and refilled in between oil changes. Autonation Hyundai Mall of Georgia originally assisted with transmission replacement Feb 2022, catalytic convertor was replaced in Mar 2024. The vehicle has been parked for considerable time while insurance and car payments continue. In Feb 2025 my daughter was driving and was nearly rear ended when vehicle failed to accelerate, it has primarily parked since that time while exploring repairs. Car fails [XXX] enroute to game. Last quote to repair catalytic convertor was Total Automotive in Gainesville Ga. around 19 May 2025. I believe this vehicle poses a significant safety risk due to acceleration delays, all attempts to resolve have been unsuccessful. I received a email about a recall my vehicle has I made an appointment with the Hyundai dealership which sent the email. Hyundai Wesley Chapel in Tampa FL and I took it in on 6/16/2025 at 10am and waited an hour. The service advisor came to me and advised me that my vehicle was purchased in Puerto Rico and cannot be serviced because they don’t have the parts. This is unacceptable and don’t understand why they went through the trouble of sending me an email regarding this recall to waste my day at the dealership.

Car had check engine light come on and found out that it had been using oil. Engine started using more than 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Catalytic converter had to be replaced because it was plugged. Car had less than 80,000 miles on it when this started happening.

This call actively has a recall on engine rods any Hyundai and some Kia models ranging from 2011 all the way until 2022. They are known for having a faulty motor with active oil consumption and are currently facing several lawsuits and my car is one of these cars facing this issue however, the manufacturer doesn’t want to Fully create a recall on the motor claims that are causing this rapid oil consumption issue I would like this to be investigated as well as it be investigative why you don’t already have their current active recall listed on your website . but if your website was correct and listed the engine, Roddery call, and if my engine rod were to blow, then they would actually address this issue however, some people are getting this issue addressed under their manufacturer warranty however it is becoming extremely difficult because they want us to pay out-of-pocket for a pointless test as newer vehicles should not be burning oil with no active problems. Clearly, the states there is a problem which there is as of all the active lawsuits.

My high pressure fuel injectors and spark plug had to be replaced at 72,000 miles. My check engine light came on and the car started vibrating and was not accelerating properly. I spoke to three Hyundai dealership service centers and each of them acknowledged that it was a known issue with 2022 Hyundai Tucsons.

While merging onto [XXX] in Southington, CT, the vehicle would not accelerate past 25 MPH which is very dangerous for merging onto an interstate highway. Luckily, my wife was able to safely pull over onto the shoulder. We shut the vehicle off for a minute, restarted it, and have had no problems since. There were no warnings, and no check engine indicator was displayed. I'll contact the dealer this month at a regular maintenance visit. Battery Management System failed Safety-Could not drive on interstate. Very unsafe. Dealer inspected problem afterwards. Warning lights appeared at time of problem. No warnings before. No signs of problem before it happened. SYNOPSIS: After driving through a torrential thunderstorm on the interstate (06-13-25) and as we were getting ready to slow down for our exit on the interstate, we hit the brakes and our SUV gave us a warning. The warning said, "Battery Management System Discharge". The SUV is a hybrid. At this point the SUV locked into E V mode. Our SUV would only go 10 mph which was very dangerous. It should be able to go up to 35 mph in E V mode and then past that, switch into gas mode. As stated, we could only go about 10 mph. We made it to our exit and found a spot to pull off the ramp. We let the SUV sit for a few moments and turned it off. We let it sit for a minute and then turned the car back on. The SUV when we turned it back on gave us a check engine light and still would not go over 10 mph. Luckily we were stopping for dinner. We were able to proceed to our destination. After dinner around an hour or so, when turned the vehicle back on, the SUV still gave us a check engine light. but was able to drive normally and switch between E V and gas modes. We made it home safely at the end of the weekend on 06-15-25. On 6-16-25 we took the SUV to be looked at by the dealer we purchased it from. Our phone app showed code DTC P0AA600. We gave the code to the staff. The staff inspected the SUV. The report stated, "customer states stopped driving and there code P0AA600 Battery Warning Light NPF Could not duplicate problem. Tech scanned for codes Code P0AA600 was found as a history code. Tech checked live data and everything came back within spec. Followed the flow chart procedure for the code. Check for BMS isolation faults none found. Check 12volt battery. Battery is good". We drove it home and filed this report.

While on the road, the sunroof just shattered completely. In this instance, nobody was hurt as the cover below the sunroof was open and that caught all the glass pieces. The car is hardly 2 year old and warranty covered the repairs. The complaint is that Hyundai never gave a clear answer as to why this happened and what can be done to prevent it. There is no consideration of the passengers getting hurt and startled by this incident. Also no consideration for the time it took for the repairs, the dealership never gave a loaner and we didn’t know we could rent it and Hyundai would reimburse. I feel Hyundai cannot just say sorry and move on as there has to be a reason for this and we pay extra for having a sunroof. I am not satisfied with Hyundai’s method of dealing with customers who suffered bear of their own manufacturing.
