- #11469166June 14, 2022ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Continuous problems associated with the computer of the car that are affecting its ability to drive safely. While in reverse and in motion, the car's camera will often, an unpredictably, shut off. Additionally, the car's forward collision warning system will initiate when there are no cars in front of; rather, it sometimes engages when oncoming traffic going the opposite direction. Lastly, the car lost all power while on the highway due to a "battery error". It required a redownload of software; however, these other safety problems persist.

My car does not have even 9000 miles tire in under warranty but not either pirelli or volvo of america is taking responsibility for this. I drive in the highway I am a woman single mother with my son ... And driving under this circumstances in not safe. But apparently Pirelli of Volvo are just blaming each other.. I have to chance the tire cover the expenses. And waiting for an answer.

The car started to move and accelerate with brake pressed. Accident prevention system did not activate itself. It did not display any warnings as it typically do during parking and being close to other cars. The car caused an accident with mild injuries to the driver of the other car, but could have hit a pedestrian or go to the intersection and involved with an accident with a car moving perpendicularly at a higher speed. I am waiting for an investigator from Volvo and Travelers Insurance. Prior to the accident the electronic display of the car started to malfunction. I have a video of the whole accident , but it is in mp4 format and thus i could not upload it. The dashboard camera's microphone picked some electromagnetic interference that increased as we got closer to the accident. Description of the accident: We pulled to a red light behind another car. After not moving for a few seconds, the car started to move on its own, accelerating and hitting the car in the front, continuing to move forward. I was able to put the shifter into the park, stopping it. The road conditions were good. Roads were dry. The sky were cloudy overhead. The vehicle is not drivable ( radiator leak ). The car behaved usually before the accident, except for some reason, for the first time, all the displays dimmed significantly ( it was hard to see anything, and I could not increase brightness ). The screens went back to normal brightness right before the accident. Also, the dashboard camera that recorded the incident, for some reason, picked up audio evidence of electromagnetic interference which was increasing as we were getting closer to the intersection.

Volvo XC-60 computer system / software updates malfunctioned. The computer(s) remain in the vehicle (to my knowledge). Without warning, the vehicle failed to start, supposedly because of a software update that failed to work properly. The car routinely has software updates. This is the second time in the 6 months since we leased the car that it has had problems with a software update. We have a home in Ithaca NY, where it can snow for many months of the year. We are put at risk by a car that can fail without warning. When the car failed to start, it could only be moved by a flat-bed tow truck, as it was impossible to put the car into neutral and it would not roll. The Volvo dealer confirmed that the vehicle failed to start because of a software update that failed to work properly. As far as we know the car's computer(s) was (were) not replaced - it was a pure software download problem. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. There was a message that the car intended to perform a software update and could not be used for 1.5 hours until the update concluded. But there was No warning that the car would fail to work After the software finished updating.

The vehicle pulls to the right consistently. Volvo San Diego has attempted to correct this on six different occasions, including sending it to an alignment specialist, and swapping wheels and tires. After this, they tried to explain to me that this was a “safety feature” that pulls the vehicle to the right, sometimes leaving the lane, so the vehicle would not go in to oncoming traffic on a two lane road. They also explained that this is standard for all vehicles in this class. Even though it does not happen on any of the courtesy vehicles they have loaned me during the six visits. Also having issue with the main computer not connecting to the internet, or radio, and sometimes not allowing for back up sensor alarms, or blinker sounds.

Multiple occurrences: The screen goes blank in front of the driver including the main center on the dash. The car simply stops working and slows down to a crawl showing a turtle symbol on the dash. To reset, the vehicle has to be completely shut down and restarted. The ventilation system stops working and required a reset. The Google operating system which controls everything in the vehicle is a failure. This vehicle should have never been released for sale and Volvo should have told their many customers that the 2022 XC60 had serious issues before the sale.

- #11453665February 23, 2022FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, STEERING
While driving on the inside lane next to the median of a 4-lane road and without warning or any other vehicles in my vicinity, any debris or objects in the road, and while I was maintaining the vehicle in my lane, the car swerved to the right. It felt as though someone in the passenger seat (I was alone) grabbed the steering wheel and forcefully yanked it to the right. At this time the words Collision Avoidance Assistance or something similar appeared on the dashboard screen. Thankfully there was not a vehicle in the lane to my right and I was able to correct the vehicle back into the appropriate lane. I turned left at the next opening in the median, pulled into a vacant parking lot, and called the Volvo service department. I described what happened to the woman taking my information and made arrangements to leave the car that evening for it to be repaired the following morning. I missed a voicemail from the technician on February 8th stating that the car was inspected and test driven and the issues reported could not be duplicated but that the software had been updated. Several phone calls occurred between myself and the dealer and it was established that the problems reported (this one as well as the ones described in a previous report regarding rear auto braking intervention) could not be duplicated. Had a vehicle been to the right of me, had I been in the right lane and a person been on the sidewalk, had I been in a neighborhood in which a child was riding a bike or a parent was pushing a child in a stroller, the results could have been tragic. There was no warning prior to the swerve and the words on the dashboard.

- #11453658February 23, 2022SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
2 incidents occurred during the week of Christmas (1 before and 1 after) in which the Rear Auto Brake engaged without warning or provocation. There were 0 obstacles, vehicles, or persons in the vicinity which would have required an alert or braking. The 1st occurred in a parking lot and the 2nd occurred when backing out of a private garage. In each instance, another adult aside from the driver witnessed the malfunction. 1 incident occurred in January in which the Rear Auto Brake engaged without warning and without presence of obstacles, vehicles, or persons in the vicinity which would have warranted an alert or braking. At each incident, the words Rear Auto Brake Intervention or something similar appeared on the dashboard. The braking and screen message occurred with warning or any cause for the sudden and forceful automatic braking. After the 3rd incident, the owner found the option to disable the Rear Auto Brake Intervention feature but this needs to be done at each new drive. No accidents occurred. The owner took the car to the dealer's service department. The service department was unable to duplicate the issue nor were they able to find any record of the error in the vehicle's "black box." The car remains with the service department due to subsequent issues experienced and reported on this site by the owner.

Today my Sensus in the center console as well as instrument panel that shows the map between the gauges went black and switched my drive mode out of ECO, shutting off my cruise cintrol and turned off my Bluetooth phone call. Rebooted 3 times before becoming stable. This is unsafe and very dangerous. They just did a software update while it was in the dealership recently fixing an unrelated issue for a month. Now I have to try and get a video as they always try to claim they can't duplicate issues... I always have to take videos and recordings now...

- #11449536January 31, 2022LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, SEAT BELTS:FRONT:WARNING LIGHT/DEVICES
The contact owns a 2022 Volvo XC60. While driving at various speeds, the contact discovered that the lane assist safety feature failed to recognize the single or double yellow lines. In addition, he also discovered that the lane assists safety feature did not operate while driving under 35 MPH. The contact also mentioned that the seat belt audible alert would only chime twice and that the warning light would disappear after 45 seconds. The contact stated that without the constant reminder, a person might forget to use the seat belt. The dealer was notified about the seat belt issue and informed that customers preferred a limited seat belt reminder. The contact disagreed and stated that the seat belt reminder should remain constant until the seat belt was securely fastened. The contact sent an email to the manufacturer; however, the contact had not yet received a response. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 0.

I had only had my car for approximately 2 weeks and had to have it towed to the dealership due to an electrical problem that caused my car to act like it was running out of gas. The dealership had my car for about 3 days and it was an computer problem with the batteries not communicating between systems so they had to order a new module and reset the computer. Another 3 weeks later my parking alert sensors started going off and wouldn’t go off they just stayed on once again took to dealership and it was a computer problem. Both issues was fixed but was told don’t be surprised if happens again might happen until Volvo gets the whole company program updates and if it does happen just bring it back to the dealership and have computer reset. It’s just an inconvenience to think I might have to take my car or have my car towed to the dealership every 2-3 weeks because of a computer update issue this is a brand new car. But I love this car I just hope Volvo gets the computer system fixed for good. Dealership said they had others come in for check engine lights on and other lights even though nothing wrong just a computer issue.

Volvo rushed the 2022 model year XC60 with the new Google infotainment to market before all the bugs were worked out. While driving after 4 weeks of ownership, the HVAC was not working so unable to defog the windshield, the turn signal lights were not working, maps and speed limit alerts not working. Had to manually reboot the infotainment to regain these necessary safety features. There are numerous internet forums describing issues with the new Google based infotainment that Volvo is using and the slow response to address them. Even the dealer is aware of these reported issues.

I purchased a brand new Volvo XC60 T5 AWD Inscription 7/04/2021. On 9/22/2021 I was driving in the middle lane on interstate 20 located in DFW TX and entering a curve when suddenly and without warning the steering wheel went stiff (as if I had NO power steering). I almost got into an accident, had I not been an experienced driver. A warning then displayed in the driver's information center "Power Steering Service Urgent, Drive To Workshop". The steering wheel continued to function as if I had no power steering until I arrived at work. I immediately called the dealership where I purchased the my SUV and they got me scheduled with a loaner. It was a traumatic incident that caused me great deal of concern since my SUV in brand new. Apparently Volvo put out an advisory notice that the sub-battery attached to the power steering pump is having issues and the dealership replaced it. I have not had a similar experience since...

The contact owned a 2021 Volvo XC60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to accelerate and the brakes failed to stop. The vehicle crashed into a nearby fence causing the vehicle to flip. The air bags did deploy. The contact received injuries to their right shoulder and left knee. Medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and had not been deemed totaled as of yet however, damage to the vehicle would be considered unrepairable. The dealer was informed of the incident however they were unable to assist. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

I leased the vehicle in December, 2020. Periodically while the tailgate is open and I am underneath it, the tailgate has closed on me and hit me in the back. In February, 2021, the struts on the tailgate were replaced at Patrick Volvo, Fort Myers, Florida, after I received a recall letter from Volvo. On September 9, 2021 at approximately 11:00 a.m. (CST) I was under the opened tailgate and it closed three times in a row and hit me in the back. Each time that it hit me, it reversed direction and went back into the open position. I was not injured but my back was sore for the rest of the day. I brought the SUV into Patrick Volvo, Shaumburg, Illinois. The service representative (SR) explained to me that there is a sensor under the rear bumper that will open and close the tailgate if you waive your foot under one specific location. Which is approximately two feet from the left edge of the bumper. The SR explained to me that I must have accidentally waived my foot under the bumper and the sensor caused the tailgate to close. He further advised that it could not be deactivated. On September 18, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m. I was sitting in the cargo area putting on my golf shoes. The tailgate started to close. I ran as fast I could and avoided getting hurt or injured. My feet were not capable of engaging the sensor as they were in front of the bumper. I have advised Volvo Customer Service and Patrick Volvo of this new safety concern. Patrick Volvo has stated to me that they have never had this problem on any of their SUVS. They also do not know what is causing it. They are waiting for a loaner SUV to come back to their dealership and then I will bring the vehicle in, so they can attempt to solve this safety issue. In the meantime, I have to be very cautious when the tailgate is open. My fear is not only that it will hit me, but more so that it will not reverse direction and close on me.

This is in regards to Pilot Assist. My husband and I purchased this vehicle in May of 2021. We have encountered several incidents (while using Pilot Assist). The car has directed us to different lanes, steered us to guardrails and other cars and has failed to break when cars have been stopped in front of us. We have taken the car in to our local Volvo dealership multiple times and they have still not corrected the issues. The first time we took the car in to the dealership, we were told (by the mechanic) it’s not a good system and it will never operate correctly. They have checked the sensors and hooked the car up to the computer and said it’s not sending off any codes, therefore there is nothing they can do. They have also test driven the car. The latest test drive, the mechanic left notes saying the car did start to drift in to the other lane but was corrected by the driver. However, he claims this is normal operation.

I purchased a brand new Volvo XC60 T6 on 7/18/2021. On 8/14/2021 I was driving on the far left lane on the 280S freeway and wanted to merge one lane to the right and as I was merging the steering wheel went stiff and caused me to lose control of the car. I almost get into a big accident with a Tesla. Then I heard a sound and notice on the dash display "Power Steering service urgent drive to a workshop" sign. The steering wheel continue being stiff and I experienced pain in my left arm due to the steering wheel incident. I immediately called the dealership where I purchased the car from and unfortunately the service department is closed on weekends. I managed to drive slowly and drove back home with very limited control on the steering wheel. I used Volvo On Call and had the car towed to be brought back to the dealership. It was a quite traumatic incident that make me feel not confident to drive the car anymore. Is there any recall that I am not aware of for this car model? I emailed Volvo customer care regarding this issue on 8/15/2021.
