ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OIL/LUBRICATION
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while his wife was merging onto the highway at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that his wife stopped depressing the accelerator pedal and the vehicle restarted. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact's wife was able to safely exit the highway however, the vehicle would not accelerate properly and exceeded 30 MPH. The contact's wife drove to an auto parts store and added two quarts of oil to the engine. The vehicle began to operate correctly. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed but no failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired and the contact's wife continued to use the vehicle. The failure recurred while the contact's wife was driving approximately 30 MPH. The vehicle stalled and the contact's wife was rear-ended. There was minimal damage to the rear bumper. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was returned to the same dealer and an oil consumption test was performed and it was determined that the oil consumption was normal. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was still consuming oil. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The car stalls when slowing down to approach stop signs and intersections, and the power steering is lost causing a dangerous situation. One instance it stalled while driving on a highway at 55 mph which was frightening! Luckily I was able to glide off to the shoulder without causing an accident. The start/stop notification showed on my dash, advising me to restart the vehicle. I had to put the gear back into park and try to restart. It took a couple of tries to restart the vehicle.

Radio,navigation, backup camera touch screen is not working properly and sometimes changes settings, views and stations on its own. When using backup camera this creates a dangerous situation. Radio station changes can be a distraction situation while driving.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I purchased the vehicle in November 2021 when it was cold out. The unconnect radio worked fine until I would have the heat running a while and then the screen would either go completely black or black with colored lines going through it. Since it has warmed up I can come out and the screen does not work. This cause a safety issue it’s many blind spots in the vehicle and hard to see when going in reverse! Also the car’s temperature control settings are in the screen. When this happens at night it causes a issue because its like a flashing with the black and other colors it does when the screen goes out. Google it this is a know issue jeep need to put a recall out on these radios.

Engine shuts down while driving. I could be in traffic and car just shuts down, could cause major accident if I'm not by side of road or on highway! I brought it to my mechanic. The oil pressure low light came on only once .... not even due for oil change!

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle seized and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the catalytic convertor to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the check engine warning light turned off independently but would intermittently illuminate. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I was driving my Compass in traffic when it died and wouldnt start for about 60 secs and then it started right up no issues. The next day they very same thing happened- No lights or anything the vehicle died in the middle of traffic. I could have been injured or someone else could have been injured due to the sudden stops. I did take the vehicle to the dealership and I have been informed that the engine is defective and unsafe to drive as this will continue. I have opted to have a new engine installed in the vehicle. FCA did not express any concern for the safety of the consumers of these vehicles.

My car burns a quart of oil every 500 miles, it doesn’t warn me when it’s low on oil. Only when it’s bone dry, and when its low on oil it throws random engine codes that make the car start stalling. I’ve been driving down the interstate in the fast lane and my car just shut completely off with no check engine light on, no low oil warning, no warning at all. My breaks don’t work when my car shuts off, so on the interstate doing 70 isn’t an option for me anymore. I fear that my children will be in my car, and I’ll get plowed from behind because my car randomly shuts off!! This car shouldn’t be allowed to be sold.

-The vehicles front subframe failed to support the vehicles stability, structure, weight, and momentum, during normal driving ,braking, acceleration from a stop, etc. -The corroded and complete 'rusted thru metal' subframe is available for visual/safety inspection, and photo's are attached. - Safety was severely compromised while driving, as the "Subframe to main channel frame" fastening bolt was sheared and broken off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer, without control, due to the engine weight and front end suspension/components shifting out of position. - Independent service centers and auto- mechanic statements in multiple car safety forums have indicated similar situations have occurred, and could be fatal at highway speeds/conditions. - The vehicle is scheduled for dealership inspection and consultation for further use, and/or repair. -No warning lights were initiated at time of this issue. Steering wheel vibration, and loss of steering control occurred.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
While driving on the highway, the electronic throttle control light suddenly flashed and the car refused to accelerate. This happened multiple times while driving so I took it to the dealership and they say the throttle body needs to be replaced for $993. Many reviews online report the same exact problem and the dealership just laughs at them and says there isn't a recall on the part. The speed limit on the road I was on was 55 mph so being shot down to 20 mph while my car jerked unexpectedly was very dangerous for me and my son in our vehicle and the cars around us. There was no warning and the car hasn't had any problems before besides a slow start about once every other month. This needs to be fixed and recalled before people end up dead.

My car has 58,000 miles on it, I purchased it with 20,000 certified pre owned. I have noticed engine noises since around 40,000 miles. I was driving down the road a week ago and the Jeep Compass sport 2018 had shut completely off on me while driving and I never had any warning light. After getting the car to start about 2 minutes later my control screen gave me a low oil pressure message. I immediately took it for an oil change, I was still not due for. I still had at least 1,000 miles on my oil. I asked them if it was low and it was almost empty. I also had the sway bar links replaced already and my car still shakes, it feels to me, like the control arm. The dealership has me scheduled 2 weeks out and hasn’t offered me a rental, this engine issue is a clear hazard. I am still under manufacturing warranty and bought the extended warranty. Jeep knows about this issue specifically and knows it’s dangerous, and should not be driven.

-The front subframe of the vehicle is rusted out. They never offered a recall only a service advisement(thus not informing owners of the potential issue). My subframe was found to be rusted out in a yearly state inspection but is 2 months past their extended warranty date. Therefore they deny financial responsibility to replace the part. -Driving with a rusted out subframe can cause the vehicle to loose control and crash. -The problem is acknowledged by the dealers but they refuse to issue a recall to alert everyone to the problem, therefore allowing the vehicles to go beyond the extended warranty timeframe then refuse to pay for the repairs. -The vehicle has been inspected by a licensed mechanic and issues have been documented. -There were no warning signs or issues prior to the inspection which found the corroded piece.

On Feb 8th, 2022 the four wheel drive quit working giving message to service 4wd. The front tires turned and the back tired did not turn and the car did not move forward or backwards. If this would have happened in an area that was remote and no people around I would have not been able to get help. This is a safety issue as car was inoperable and could have stranded me in a remote location. Leased this vehicle on Dec 29, 2021 and issues started Jan 5th, the screen would not work was unable to control heat, radio, navigation, hands free, cruise control etc. Was in Tennessee where it was warm and no heat needed, headed back to MN to negative 30 degrees and no heat, could have froze if car would have stopped. With no heat in MN at negative 30 degrees it is unsafe to drive without heat. This is a big safety issue. Please help it was in service department Jan 18 - 24 and continued to have daily issues then in shop Feb 8 through April 14th, still having issues after picking it up. I took my car to be inspected for yearly registration. I was told by the repair shop that I have parts of the subframe and suspension that are excessively rusted, to the point where they are a safety concern and have to be replaced. Other model years of the first generation Jeep Compass have been issued extended warranties on those parts, and I believe it should be extended to the entire first generation of the Jeep Compass.

I'm having the same issue with my Jeep Compass 2019 as hundreds of others with no help from JEEP. Engine stalled 4 times already this month after a quick error message "coolant temperature too high" was displayed and immediately disappeared. But enough for the engine to stop completely. It happened at freeway exit ramp, driveway ramp, traffic light. Someone will get KILLED. I contacted Jeep. No help even though they are aware of this issue. Dealer could not recreate problem. Paid a fortune. Got it out of the dealer and it is still doing it. I can't keep driving like this. I called my old mechanic and he said that only a dealer can do a software update since it seems it is a glitch. Dealer updated software. Still doing it. Somebody needs to take this seriously before it is too late. I need somebody to help me. This site mentions this issue multiple times and shows that JEEP is aware of this issue. Malfunction: The infotainment screen is delaminating. Safety at risk: This is a problem because most of the controls for the vehicle are based in the infotainment touch screen. Many functions will just randomly turn on or not work at all. Dealer has been contacted and is aware of this issue. The component has not been inspected but a visual inspection and you can see the delamination from the screen. There are no warning messages from the vehicle but the many functions that are associated with the touch screen will just happen without touching because the screen is pulling apart. Great for the radio to turn up to full volume while driving or the a/c or heat to just turn on. How about that backup camera that sometimes will not work now. I've checked the web and noticed this is a problem with model year 2018 and possibly other years. Not a one time incident and seems to be happening to all models with the infotainment system. If it is not happening in a car yet it will.

I am currently in a loaner car from dodge dealership, 2022 Jeep Compass limited 4x4. when we got it pretty much as soon as we were in it and down the road every dashboard warning light popped on and it goes through the process of telling you everything from lane assist to park assist. Nothing works as far as cruise control blind spot warning nothing I all says needs to he serviced. When this happens if they vehicle is cruise control you lose cruise control until the vehicle decides you can have it back. We’ve Had the loaner for 2 weeks and it happens every single day at least twice a day. Around the same times every day.
