Engine Recall from Hyundai, I brought it to Hyundai Route 1, South Brunswick, NJ, they claimed Hyundai needed to have it done, the recall mail I received was from Hyundai itself, their engines are catching fire, their engine oil levels are going dangerously low in a really short time, please help me get to a resolution to this issue or give Hyundai a citation for their irresponsible actions.

- #11529341June 28, 2023ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, ENGINE
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated with a burning odor and a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was later driven to the local dealer who discovered metal shavings inside the engine and engine oil and informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000. The mechanic stated in the engine evaluation notes rings in the engine bad, and the metal shavings would indicate the rings on the piston were not correctly installed or shimmed to tolerance, causing them to scrape the inner wall of the piston chamber. Further stating it is a mechanical issue and not the negligence of the owner.

My 2016 Sonata, has 111,500 miles on it and burns excessive oil (4+ quarts every 1500 miles). I have taken it to a local mechanic who has seen this issue with similiar Sonata's. He believes the engine needs to be replaced. I have opened a matter with Hyundai Customer Care (that got me absolutely no where). I have to wait two weeks to get it into my dealership, meanwhile I am afraid to drive it out of safety concerns. I see similiar posts here and see Hyundai doing nothing to take care of its customers.

While turning right my steering wheel locked up. I was able to turn it enough to get on the side of the road, I turned it off and turned it back on and it was fine for about a week and then it started to lock up again. I tried turning it off and turning it back on but it has continued to lock up every time and I am unable to drive it without it being a danger.

I was driving my father's 2016 Hyundai Sonata SE, which is spinning a bearing. I was able to drive it home safely. I took it to the dealership and I was told it was out of warranty. Why? Because corporate said the Service Campaign 953 wasn't completed. They sent mail out to my father, but he wasn't home most of the time because he's a Truck driver. We don't open mail for him because he never said to. If we did, we could've been arrested for "obstruction of correspondence." Back in 2019 he shortly worked for Uber but returned back to Truck driving. Before the car failed, It was burning oil so fast that I had to buy a new can every two weeks. Now, my dad doesn't want to fix it. So he's risking his credit and my Apartment's towing it today. The car will be missed, but we will not buy another Hyundai Motor Group Vehicle ever again.

My nephew purchase a 2013 Hyundai Sonata in November 2022. Drove lease than 4 months and motor locked-up. My wife nephew purchase a 2016 Hyundai and his motor locked-up as well. Both took their vehicles to CMA Colonial Hyundai in Chester Virginia. However, the nephew with the 2016 got a new engine from Hyundai free of charge. The nephew with the 2013 Hyundai Sonata was informed that the Hyundai will not replace his engine due to like of maintenance by previous owner. Subject vehicle has been at Colonial Hyundai about three months now. During my research from other mechanics Hyundai have had many problems with engine locking up. My nephew reported the car lost power and would not start. (?) what's when driving on major highway and loses power. Not sure if reported as a major problem across the United States.

The engine lost power while getting on the highway. I was able to let off the gas and then go again. This happened several times. I took the car to the dealer where I bought it new. I found out that there was a recall on the brake stopper. The dealership never mentioned this. They said the program was over and charged me $231 for a part that was recalled. Are they allowed to not inform us of recalls? Please advise. The dealership is Keith Hawthorne Hyundai in Gastonia NC. 704-824-6010

I purchased a 2012 Hyundai sonata from Dulles auto in Leesburg VA at the end of Feb. 2023 on June third my husband and I were driving on 395 at 74 miles and hours and lost all power to our car. We were in the middle of the highway around 2:00 pm and we manage to get over to the side with out getting hit as the engine was smoking !!!. We then called a tow truck which took 2 hours because there was another accident behind us that could not move and tow truck was stuck in that. We were in the wedding and missed the ceremony which is devastating. We had the car towed to dealer and they looked at the car and said engine seized and needs to be towed to a Safford brown Hyundai in Leesburg. We did just that. We asked for a loaner car from dealer that we bought car from and from Hyundai and both said they didn't have any loaner. They both told me i can rent a car but no guarantee if i will get reimbursed. I have three drivers in my house and a car i had for 3months and 1 week before it broke down. I still have no car no loaner and no help. Hyundai in Leesburg did everything that Hyundai corp asked and took pictures i showed proof that the dealer did oil change 12-22 before i bought end of Feb. 2023. They then asked for engine cover be removed and then it was diagnosed as sludge on the engine and that is why it has seized and can not be repaired. It would cost $9000 to fix and I bought it for 12,000.00 for my 17 year old. No one will take responsibility or help so we are asked what we can do and what rights we have. During the 3months that we had the car it ran great and no lights ever came on or any warnings that why it was such a shock when this happened. I have lost work time for all the hours i have to put in for this and get no calls back or help. Please contact me at [XXX]/ I can get picture and notes from Hyundai if needed. Several times this has happened. I am driving and all of a sudden my car stops and I get a message that says Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. The car will coast to the side of the road at times and other times it won't. I have taken it to the Holler Hyundai dealer in Winter Park FL and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They had my car for less than an hour. I told them there was no way they could have fixed the issue but they said they did. Obviously they didn't fix it because it has happened several times since then. Now my car will not even move. It starts up, radio works, AC works, just will not move. It is at the Sanford Hyundai service shop waiting for them to tell me what it is

The problem appeared on December 2020 in the middle of a Hwy 50 East in Washington DC. It was scary and dangerous. First it showed some malfunction sign on the screen and right way slowed down to 40 then 20 then zero. I push the gas pedal but didn't work. I have no idea what to do. I call Hyundai college park dealership agent explained what happened. She [XXX] told me to tow the car and suggested one of their partners tow truck driver. However when I turn off the car and turned on again it worked. The engine started to run. I begun to drive. After some time I took the car to the dealer and told me the car have safety recall. The repaired it and told me it will be ok. But in reality, it didn't. This happened again and again and again. Till this moment the engine continues to stalled in the middle of HWY . I got no solution from the dealership. When ever I visited they give me different issues that I need to fix. One time they said it is fuel pump and another day they said coolant pipe needs to get fixed. I am so tired of keep going to the dealer services. I put my life and my precious kids life at risk all the time while I am driving this car. It is frustration because I got no one to help me and understand why this issue is persistent. I don't want to end up being injured or got killed by an incident that caused by this problem. How awful it can be if a collision happens in the HWY. Driving this car every day with my kids are frightening and hard to imagine what could happen to us. So I am requesting an investigation on this car with the case number I got from the headquarters. Here is my case number [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Car consumes excessive oil – one quart about every 500-700 miles. This has caused sludge in the engine and the car hesitates significantly on starting from a stopped position and now hesitates even at highway speeds. This has become a definite safety issue. If the car stalls it is only a matter of time before I am hit by another driver. The dealer first stated the oil consumption was fine IF it was one quart every 1,000 miles and that no repairs would be needed. My car is consuming almost double that amount of oil. Dealership agreed to look at it; stated the car needs a new engine. Hyundai refused to even do an oil consumption test, let alone repair/replace the engine. The “sludge” in the oil that Hyundai states was present is a result of the oil consumption (even the dealer service department verbally agreed). I’m literally putting new oil in it about once a week! There is no possibility this would NOT cause sludge. In addition, dealership said to expect the engine to fail fairly soon. Hyundai claims the car was not maintained properly; however, that is untrue. I’ve submitted records to them that I had. The warranty has no requirement that the oil must be changed or maintained by a certain individual or company. Without a new engine, the car will continue to hesitate and will eventually fail. Hesitation (and especially engine failure) subjects me to a much higher possibility of a crash causing injury or death to myself or someone else. Hyunadai should absolutely recall the thousands of vehicles having this exact same issue.
