Truck will flare on lower gears of the 10 speed transmission. The 10R80 to be exact. The CDF drum was engineered incorrectly and ford has made an updated part but they didn’t make it till 2023. So that leaves years 17’-22 to have transmission problems and catastrophic transmission failures because of a bad design. It’s very dangerous for a transmission to lose power on the roads and or react in a way that can make you lose control of vehicle. Ford has acknowledged the issue but not for the affected years. People have spent millions out of pocket and or if they had warranty coverage they spent have spent lots of unnecessary time with vehicles in and out of dealers and shops.

I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2022 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission suddenly did not engage when I turned a corner when in 2nd gear it disengaged and I coasted to side of road safely good thing there was no traffic. I then noticed that the transmission would slip (not hard just slightly 1st-5th gears). This has happened a few times especially when I first start moving. This is creating a potentially dangerous situation because the truck did not respond as expected when I needed predictable acceleration or propulsion. I believe this incident may be related to the known 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve problem. Ford technical information identifies axial movement of the CDF sleeve that can cause hydraulic-circuit leaks and harsh or delayed engagement and shifting. This result in slipping, RPM flares, delayed engagement, unexpected gear changes, harsh downshifts, lurching, or loss of propulsion. This is a safety concern, not merely a transmission quality or reliability issue. Unexpected loss of propulsion or unpredictable shifting while merging, accelerating into traffic, crossing an intersection, turning, or traveling at highway speed can create a collision hazard. Because I personally experienced this unexpected transmission event, I request that NHTSA investigate the 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder sleeve condition in Fords f150s. Please review Fords warranty claims, dealer repair records, transmission replacements, consumer complaints and field failure data to determine whether this is a safety defect requiring a recall. I believe owners should not have to wait for a potentially dangerous transmission failure before this known condition is addressed. I am reporting a safety-related defect involving the 10R80 automatic transmission in my 2022 Ford F-150 STX. While slowing to a stop during normal driving, the transmission unexpectedly performed an extremely harsh downshift. The truck jerked forward violently as it shifted into a lower gear, making it difficult to slow the vehicle in a smooth and predictable manner. This occurred without warning and created a dangerous situation while approaching an intersection. A vehicle should decelerate in a controlled and predictable way. Instead, the sudden downshift upset the vehicle’s behavior and reduced my confidence in its safe operation. If this happens in heavy traffic, on wet roads, or near pedestrians, it could easily contribute to a crash. This is not simply an issue of comfort or drivability. It is a safety concern because it affects the driver’s ability to safely control the vehicle. My truck is equipped with Ford’s 10R80 transmission, which has been the subject of thousands of owner complaints describing harsh downshifts, delayed engagement, slipping, gear hunting, and other dangerous shifting behavior. Publicly available technical information also discusses failures involving the CDF clutch cylinder and sleeve, which can cause hydraulic pressure loss and unpredictable transmission operation. Based on my experience and the large number of similar reports from other owners, I believe this issue deserves a thorough safety investigation. NHTSA should review warranty claims, dealer repair records, transmission replacements, technical service information, and consumer complaints to determine whether this transmission contains a safety-related defect that warrants a recall or other corrective action. Owners should not have to wait until a harsh downshift causes a serious collision before this issue is addressed. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this defect and require an effective repair to protect drivers, passengers, and everyone sharing the road

I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2021 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving, the transmission would unexpectedly hesitate before engaging the selected gear and then shift harshly with a noticeable bang. On multiple occasions, the engine RPM would flare before the transmission engaged, resulting in delayed or inconsistent acceleration. The transmission has also exhibited harsh shifts, delayed engagement, and unpredictable gear changes. These events occurred during normal driving, including accelerating from a stop, merging into traffic, and driving at highway speeds. The transmission did not respond as expected when I needed predictable acceleration, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Delayed engagement and sudden harsh shifts make it difficult to judge available power when entering traffic or changing lanes. I believe this incident may be related to the known 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve problem. Ford technical information identifies axial movement of the CDF sleeve that can cause hydraulic-circuit leaks, resulting in harsh or delayed engagement and shifting. This condition can cause slipping, RPM flares, delayed engagement, unexpected gear changes, harsh downshifts, lurching, or loss of propulsion. This is a safety concern, not merely a transmission quality or reliability issue. Unexpected hesitation, delayed engagement, or loss of propulsion while merging, accelerating into traffic, crossing an intersection, or traveling at highway speed creates an increased risk of a crash. Because I personally experienced these unexpected transmission events, I request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate the 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve condition in Ford F-150 vehicles. Please review Ford warranty claims, dealer repair records, transmission replacements, consumer complaints, and field-failure data to determine whether this represents a safety defect

I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2021 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission suddenly slammed into the next gear, i had never felt that before, it happens when it shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd, and someone’s after i have already been driving at highway speeds for a while it will rev up as if it’s slipping or missing a gear. This occurred while driving on a main highway, and also happens right when i leave my driveway, creating a potentially dangerous situation because the truck did not respond as expected when I needed predictable acceleration or propulsion. A loss of power in the middle of busy traffic could cause an accident. This happens every single time i drive my truck, currently my truck has less than 55k miles. 2017–2023 F-150 OWNERS — 10R80 TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: PLEASE REPORT TO NHTSA I’ve experienced hard/violent shifting, slipping, RPM flares, delayed engagement, unexpected downshifts, lurching, loss of a gear, loss of propulsion, or other abnormal behavior from the 10R80 transmission, and am filing a safety complaint with NHTSA. This isn't just about an expensive transmission repair. Unexpected loss of propulsion or unpredictable shifting can become a serious safety issue, especially when merging onto a highway, accelerating into traffic, crossing an intersection, turning, or trying to avoid another vehicle. Ford has technical information addressing the CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve issue in 10R80-equipped F-150s. The documented condition involves movement of the CDF sleeve that can cause hydraulic-circuit leaks and result in harsh or delayed engagement and shifting. I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2022 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission suddenly failed to engage, shifted violently, RPMs flared, and unexpectedly downshifted. My truck has spent 80 days in the shop over 11 visits attempting to repair the transmission since 2023. The truck has a hard downshift from 5-4, 4-3, and sometimes 3-1 while light braking coming to a stop. Sometimes it’s several times per day and sometimes not in an entire week. On average it occurs 2-5 times per week. I drive 40 miles to work mostly on the freeway with little traffic with two stop signs going and one stop sign + 4 lights returning so I don’t have that many locations for the condition to be repeated which means the frequency it occurs is pretty high. It is an hard enough downshift where it clunks real bad and sometimes shutters the truck. The transmision cannot last long term and is likely loosening / damaging other components. One of the hardest downshifts I have felt occurred 2 months ago. It shuttered so bad, it felt something could have been damaged. The same day I was holding speed going downhill and it had a hard shift from 3-2. On several occasions in the last 3 years it had a clunk from 5-6 while accelerating on the freeway. Every few weeks it has a hard shift from 4-3 going uphill for power. The adaptive tables have been reset multiple times. Sometimes that helps for a little bit, sometimes not. Long term it is not a solution. The pan was dropped at one of the last visits and a repair made inside. This did not make any significant changes. The hardest downshift I have ever felt (above) occorred several days after this.

I am reporting a safety-related transmission failure I experienced with my 2021 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission suddenly failed to engage and then shifted violently, causing an unexpected loss of power and then a change of propulsion. This occurred while merging at highway speed, creating a potentially dangerous situation because the truck did not respond as expected when I needed acceleration. I believe this incident may be related to the known 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve problem. Ford technical information for 2021–2022 F-150s identifies axial movement of the CDF sleeve that can cause hydraulic-circuit leaks and harsh or delayed engagement and shifting. This can result in slipping, RPM flares, delayed engagement, unexpected gear changes, harsh downshifts, lurching, or loss of propulsion. This is a safety concern, not merely a transmission quality issue. Unexpected loss of propulsion while merging, accelerating into traffic, crossing an intersection, or turning could leave a driver unable to accelerate as expected and create a collision hazard. An unexpected downshift or lurch can also abruptly alter vehicle behavior. Because I personally experienced this unexpected transmission event, I request that NHTSA investigate the 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve condition in 2021 F-150s. Please review Ford warranty claims, dealer repair records, transmission replacements, consumer complaints, and field-failure data to determine whether this is a safety defect requiring a recall. I believe owners should not have to wait for a potentially dangerous transmission failure before this known condition is addressed.

My vehicle experiences total loss of the instrument cluster PRNDL gear display, an active Wrench Light, and unexpected shifts into Limp-Home Mode while driving in traffic, creating a severe crash hazard from trailing vehicles. An OBD-II scan confirmed permanent fault codes P0715 (Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction) and P0717 (Input/Turbine Speed Sensor No Signal). West Herr Ford of Amherst (NY) inspected the vehicle on July 25, 2026. REASON FOR COMPLAINT / REMEDY INADEQUACY: #1 Software vs. Hardware: Recall 26S28 uses a PCM software reflash to alter computer logic during signal drops. This software reflash does NOT fix the underlying physical breakdown of the 6R80 molded lead frame assembly. Thermal cycling and vibration continue to degrade internal wiring, causing active driving failures after the recall update. #2 Omission of Known Codes (P0715/P0717): The Turbine Speed Sensor (TSS) and Output Speed Sensor (OSS) are physically integrated inside the EXACT same plastic molded lead frame. However, dealers refuse to cover part replacement under 26S28 for P0715/P0717 because they are omitted from the recall's automated approval list, forcing out-of-pocket costs exceeding $1,200 for a known manufacturing defect. REQUESTED ACTION: I request NHTSA require Ford to expand 26S28 hardware replacement authorization to explicitly include lead-frame-integrated codes P0715 and P0717, and mandate physical lead frame replacements for all vehicles exhibiting active sensor circuit failures.

This problem started a few months ago. In the first few minutes of driving my truck each morning i have been experiencing problems with my truck shifting. Sometimes there is a lag. Sometimes there is unexpected shift. Sometimes it jumps from 10th gear to 1st. It can be jarring at times. Then by the time i get to where i am going the problems seem to go away. Lately, the problems show up slightly, later in the day. And most recently, the little wrench light came on, indicating a "Powertrain malfunction / Reduced power" With the description "The transmission control module has detected a concern when trying to shift to 7th gear. A failsafe logic disable 7th gear for the remainder of this key cycle." I had my truck towed to a Ford dealership, and they claim i need a whole new transmission! When i researched this it seems that this is a very common problem with the Ford F150 and the 10R80 transmission. It was recommended that i file a complaint with the NHTSA
