I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2018 Ford F-150 XLT equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission suddenly lost power and failed to engage into gear causing hesitation in the middle of driving. This occurred while in stop and go traffic, creating a potentially dangerous situation because the truck did not respond as expected when I needed predictable acceleration or propulsion. I believe this incident may be related to the known 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve problem. Ford technical information identifies axial movement of the CDF sleeve that can cause hydraulic-circuit leaks and harsh or delayed engagement and shifting. This condition can result in slipping, RPM flares, delayed engagement, unexpected gear changes, harsh downshifts, lurching, or loss of propulsion. This is a safety concern, not merely a transmission quality or reliability issue. Unexpected loss of propulsion or unpredictable shifting while merging, accelerating into traffic, crossing an intersection, turning, or traveling at highway speed can create a collision hazard. Because I personally experienced this unexpected transmission event, I request that NHTSA investigate the 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve condition in Ford F-150s. Please review Ford warranty claims, dealer repair records, transmission replacements, consumer complaints, and field-failure data to determine whether this is a safety defect requiring a recall. I believe owners should not have to wait for a potentially dangerous transmission failure before this known condition is addressed.

Vehicle had hard and sudden shifting and grinding noise coming form gears. Sudden shifting would result in abrupt change in speed. Two repairs were made by a Ford dealership totaling just over $10,000 including replacing transfer case and transmission. There was no vehicle warning indicators that notified me of this problem.

vehicle shifted from 1st to 3rd gear and as I accelerated the engine RPMs drastically increased. The transmission jumped from 3rd to 8th gear and then immediately dropped to 1st gear while I was at 40-45 mph. Due to the speed the back tires locked and the vehicle jumped from 1st to 3rd gear and I stopped. Thankfully I did not have a vehicle behind me, or they would have him me. Dealership determine and confirmed hard/harsh shifting between 3rd, 5th, 6th while skipping 4th and 5th. No codes or warnings found upon download by the technician. Technician could not replicate it shifting from high gears to 1st and locking the tires. Recommended and completed adaptive learn procedure, but vehicle is still hard shifting 3rd and 4th gear. Very concerned the vehicle could downshift from higher gears and lock the tires again which will cause an accident.

There has been harsh shifting observed, both cold and warm. Often when downshifting and slowing to a turn or stop, there is a violent slamming into gear. I have also observed slipping in 3rd gear and making harsh shifts that appear to skip gears by the indicator. This is not a constant but intermittent issue. I have not taken it to the dealership because they will likely not be able to duplicate it in a reasonable amount of time.

Truck downshifted to a gear too low for the travel speed, caused the rear tires to briefly lock up, very lucky to have kept control. Unsure why the truck did it, it’s happened twice now at 89,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the message "Brake Fluid Level Low" was displayed. The brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact stated that the brakes failed to work properly. The contact drove to Walmart and purchased brake fluid to add to the vehicle, but the failure persisted. The contact added more brake fluid, but the failure recurred, and the engine made a knocking sound with smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 114,089.

I started noticing hard and delayed shifts from 7th into 8th gear. My RPM's were not increasing when this happened, and then on a very crowded major road I lost all power, vehicle shut off and drifted, then started up and jerked again very hard. This failure could have caused a severe accident and jeopardized the well being of my wife, daughter, her friend and myself along with any other people that could of potentially been involved in a collision if one had occurred. My dash showed no warning lights. After lots of research and consultation with a private owned mechanic shop, I learned the 2019 F150 has a sever and known transmission issue with the learning tables and the transmission control module resulting in failure. Further research reveled a law suit against ford ([XXX] v. Ford Motor Company (Case No. [XXX] in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, targets Ford over alleged defects in the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmissions equipped in 2017–2020 Ford F-150 trucks) regarding this exact issue I was having with my truck, with only 72,000 miles on it! Bob Bell Ford in Glen Burnie Maryland, was less than helpful and the staff was rude when I was explaining what was happening and the information I learned, and quoted me a price of around $12,000.00 to replace the transmission, and that they knew there was a problem with that transmission. I had the vehicle repaired by Glen Burnie Transmission in Glen Burnie Maryland for $8,200.00. That shop told me that they replace several of these transmissions a month (confirming it is a sever issue) and the service tech could tell me what the 8th digit in my vin was based on the symptoms, and he was spot on! I was told the CDF drum and bushings failing—that cause harsh, erratic shifting, sudden lunging, jerking, hesitation, and gear slipping This repair costed me $8200.00 to replace, and another $450 to Bob Bell Ford for them to repeat to me what I already told them. Ford Motor Company put out a recall on the PCM. I had the recall performed and it has caused more damage to my truck. It now has eratic shifting, stuck gears, and going into limpmode. Ford Forums show that this is an ongoing issue after the reset is performed creating an unsafe vehicle to drive. The check engine light is now on and was not prior to this recall reset.

I was at my granddaughters and I went to leave and it was like dead except the wrench came up in the dash panel , I waited before calling my husband and I went back to try and start it again and it started no wrench in the display or anything , this was in February 2026. In March of 2026 I was in the middle turn lane on [XXX] by Tuttle, Ok. And it stalled as I was trying to turn and would not move I put it back into park and then back to drive and it turned . Next incident was in April2026 and I was on [XXX] south of Mustang , Ok. And I was in the passing lane passing a vehicle going 65 mph and it just stalled and went down into 1 st gear I managed to get it to the shoulder of road an then it died it would not start but the radio and lights were still on and there was a wrench popped up in the panel . I waited for about 30 minutes and kept trying to start it after several attempts it started again and I made it home . The next incident my husband drove to doctors office and it did the same thing to him and would not move in the parking lot . About 15 minutes later he got it to start and he made it home . We quit driving it. Then we got a letter from Ford with the recall 26V237 .i waited for 2 nd letter and had not gotten it with a fix for it so I called the Ford Service Repir Center and they got us on the phone connected to a Ford Dealership in Yukon , Ok and they came and got the pickup on August 10 th and took it and brought it back on August 11 th and they did the soft ware update and told us no codes came up and we know better . When I had previously talked to the Ford Repair Center I was told if the wrench came up that they would replace the lead frame at no cost to us and give us a 150000 mile warranty. So it is now our word against the mechanics that the wrench ever came up INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact's son owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the owner attempted to start the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to start. The owner replaced the battery, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with a fuel pump failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that parts were unavailable for the repair. Additionally, the owner was informed that the repair could be paid for out-of-pocket and a request for reimbursement could be made when parts became available. The owner declined to pay out of pocket for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer requested that the vehicle be removed from the dealer lot. The vehicle was towed to an alternative dealer for storage because the vehicle was inoperable. The owner then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V455000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and two cases were filed. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

My F150 10R80 transmission is throwing a P076F code. And the shifting has become very harsh and eratic all across the 10 gears. Hesitations, high revs, hard shifts, etc. This is a known issue by Ford and they have issued TSBs on the issue. They acknowledge that it is a design flaw within the transmission and have issued fixes. But if you are outside of the 60,000mi warranty, the burden of the costs falls on me, the owner. $9400 to replace the transmission with a new Ford transmission here in Colorado. This is a known problem in the design but Ford is not stepping up to help. They let the burden fall on the owner.
