ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I cannot remove the key from the ignition switch after shutting it off. The engine will shut down but the key stays on the accessories position eventually causing the battery to go dead. It doesn't do it all the time, but it at some point in time it will become permanent. I consider this a very serious safety issue as I cannot lock the vehicle therefore it can be very easily stolen. Since I cannot lock it, a child could get in the vehicle and start it up and who knows what would happen after that. I also owned another GM vehicle with the same issue the key could not be removed from the ignition switch. Because an injury was involved a GM Rep came to check it out. After working several hours, he told us he could not find anything wrong with the ignition. It seems funny we never had an issue with it after he had checked it out. Lawsuit averted! I firmly believe this is a serious safety issue must be investigated!!

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle to her right lane was struck by a vehicle behind it causing the vehicle on the right lane to spin out and hit her vehicle. The contact stated her vehicle was struck on the right center of the passenger side. No air bags deployed. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

STEERING
The power steering went out while driving. How can this not be a safety issue? What if someone was executing a turn when this happened? A warning lamp did briefly appear, however, steering never restored. GM obviously knows about this as there is a TSB for this very issue. Why are they not being made to correct this instead of charging the Customer $600+? Seems like just a matter of time till there's a serious incident if there hasn't already been one.

The vehicle stuttered upon acceleration between 20mph and 35mph. After the 2018 Chevy Colorado was taken into the Chevy dealership for inspection, the torque converter failed at roughly 76,000 miles. A bad torque converter can potentially cause an accident. It can lead to engine revving issues, sudden speed changes, which can be dangerous while driving. The torque converter failed and left metal shavings in the transmission causing the transmission to need replaced as well. This was diagnosed by the Chevy dealership and has a repair ticket of over thirteen thousand dollars. ( $13,000.00 ) which most people can't afford to absorb. After a quick Google search, this appears to be a common problem. There should be a recall to fix this issue.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? It appears to be a piston failure, as there is compression and diesel in the crankcase. Engine is still in the vehicle but once removed it will be available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Power loss on a busy highway requiring lane changes without available engine power is dangerous. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? P0266 code and engine light set immediately after the failure. But there were no warnings prior

STEERING
2015 Chevy Colorado power steering has been going out while driving, often on the highway. very hard to steer/turn. several times have to try to put truck in neutral, turn off the truck, turn it back on to get it to come back on... all while doing 65-70mph on the highway. I took it to my mechanic last night, and today I'm told, there has been a recall issued for this issue. Call GM and talk to them. I do, and am told after giving VIN, for whatever reasons, my specific truck is not included in the recall - and yet I fight with the wheel trying not to run off the road or slam into someone else as I try to pull over - which is what this safety recall is all about. All out of pocket expense to me and am told, by GM, even if they do later include my truck in this recall for this problem, they could reimburse me but I most likely won't get reimbursed due to age of the truck and now it has 110,000 k miles on it. WHAT?! I'm sure this is a common type of problem with recalls but for those of us who are on tight income, this is highly stressful and a major problem - for dealing with the car itself and feeling screwed over by the company/laws/whatever excuse they want to say. Truck is now in the shop and going to get fixed cause I don't want to freaking die while driving and somehow I have to figure out how to pay the thousands of dollars to fix it.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Dash cluster initially went blank while driving and there was no speedometer or console. The vehicle alarm was also reported as going off in the middle of the night without anything around the vehicle. I took it into the dealership and they replaced several parts including the dash and radio components. They also performed a front camera recall repair. A few weeks later after driving around 250 more miles, we were driving in traffic around 50 mph when all of a sudden the vehicle came to a complete stop with no foot on the brake and injured my husbands neck and my wrists from how abrupt the stop was. The vehicle basically shut down and had to be restarted several times to get it to start back up again. Had roadside assistance tow it into the dealership again and they said that it happened during their test drive of the vehicle as well and was beeping and stopping at shadows on the ground. They drove it about 65 miles before it did it again. They returned the vehicle to us, unable to repair the issue and the GM technical engineer told them to just turn off all of the safety features in the console and that I would have to make sure they were turned off before driving the vehicle every time or if it lost power. They turned off the emergency braking controls with this action. Asked me to also adjust the gap to mid for object detection. They replaced the front camera with the recall and it still did not fix the issue. They told me that my truck does not have adaptive cruise control but the devices were acting like I did. I don't know if this is true or it is just another excuse. Note- This is the 2nd Chevy Colorado that i have had in 6 months with same issues as the dealer replaced the first lemon after 2 months.

When a right turn signal is selected and a right turn is made, the turn signal clicks off and turns on the left turn signal. Dealer replaced turn signal switch and problem still occurs.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
These features no longer work in the vehicle. There may be others that I have not noticed yet. Chevrolet requires you to purchase a Onstar subscription at the price of 25.99 a month for these safety features to work. It also requires Onstar for the talk button on steering wheel to work along with talk to text. No longer shows the current posted speed limit on road on dash. No longer shows map on dash cluster. These are what I have noticed so far.

Sunday (05/26/2024) I was driving around 15km aprox. from my home and message of Forward Collision Warning appears in the screen says that it is not working, in a period of 30 min, the message appeared as 6 times, after that message disappeared. Today, Wednesday 05/29/2024 7:10 am, my car died, not turn on, nothing works, it is as if battery was removed. My Colorado has 13000 kilometers. Monday, I drive it normally (no issues no messages), since Monday 6 pm and all Tuesday my Colorado was parked in my house. This is the second time that it happens, the first time occurred on 04/22/2024 my car died (11800 kilometers), I used normally on 04/20/2024, previous days I receipt the same warning message. Dealer could not find the issue. They updated software related with the recall related with the module of ADAS. Dealer will review again.

Occasional lag in camera systems turning on. When trying to maneuver in close quarters will turn on front and 360 cameras and sometimes have to push the camera button multiple times and up to 4 seconds delay in cameras coming on

The contact owned a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the contact's wife advised the contact to pull the vehicle over because black smoke was exiting the rear vents. Simultaneously, the contact noticed white smoke exiting the front vents. The contact drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle did not stop as intended. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. In addition, the contact noticed that the ABS warning light illuminated. The contact's wife and [XXX] granddaughter were seated in the rear passenger seats. The contact's wife and granddaughter exited the vehicle first. The contact stated that just as the front driver's side door was opened for the contact to exit the vehicle, a big ball of fire entered the interior of the vehicle. The contact stated that after exiting the vehicle, the vehicle burst into flames. The fire department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. The Police department arrived on the scene. However, there was not a Police report or fire report filed. The contact sustained a burn to his left eyebrow area and the left arm. Medical attention was provided to the contact. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was a total lost due to the fire. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. About 30 minutes after driving at low/ moderate speeds, the emergency automatic braking system and five other braking systems failed while the vehicle was in motion. Parking brake was used but nothing worked until the car was in neutral and came to a natural stop. Almost caused an accident.

I was driving the vehicle up a mountain, in a 70m speed zone, when the dash board lit up. The vehicle started to decelerate, I pushed the gas petal but it just decelerated. I put on the emergency light and continued to the exit. Stopping in Liberty Pa, at an Exxon station. Called GM roadside assistance. On-Demand Diagnostics stated: ECM-Engine System code P00700. TCM P0658, TCM P2729, and P281D. Odometer reading 3840. Remaining oil life: 49%. Our safety was compromised by the unexpected deceleration of the vehicle and possibly being stranded on the road. Was luck to get off the highway safely. The car was towed to Jack McNerney Chevrolet, Inc. 363 NYS Rt13, Tully, NY 13159 +13156968976. The car has been at the dealer since the night of [XXX]. STEERING
Steering becomes extremely stiff after 20 min at highway speeds. The problem only happens during highway speeds. Steering will "stick" and when wanting to change lanes or avoid a rough spot or hazard. You have to jerk the steering wheel to break it loose. Often, the effort required causes overcorrection, and you need to re-correct the wheel back suddenly. Even passengers notice the over steering required to change lanes. It doesn't feel very safe and my warranty ran out on time 2/11/24, not mileage. Researching the issue it appears there are many owners of the Chevrolet Colorado experiencing the same steering issue. The vehicle is a 2021 Chevy Colorado with 30,250 miles and very well maintained. I do have an extended warranty but they do not cover the repair/issue due to the power steering is electronic.

We have been complaining to the dealerships (2) since 2021 about a spontaneous outage of the Infotainment system. Each time we were told there was no problem. They claimed to have contacted GM, who said 'no problem' or so we were told. The 'problem' has become a serious safety issue for myself. It starts with a loud constant ‘ticking’ sound that begins after getting seated, even before the key is placed in the ignition and does not stop. The radio rolls a list of station numbers even when nothing is on making it very distracting. Listening to the radio has become impossible. This system malfunction has created a more serious problem for me. At my height, the view of the speedometer reading on the dashboard is blocked by the steering wheel making me dependent on the mph display directly in front of the steering wheel, and is part of the Infotainment system, which keeps going off and I have no way to watch or judge my speed safely. It also interferes when using gps and causes a loss of direction. This is just downright dangerous. As obvious as the problem is, the current dealership requires a $190 diagnostic fee with repair costs to follow. This system was not an option or add-on. We could not break it or wear it out. Now out of warranty GM refuses any responsibility. Why no recall? Many complaints stated on social media.
