ENGINE
The coolant level keeps decreasing started around 18K. At the scheduled 20K service, the dealership claimed this to be "normal" for these cars. Very hard to believe for me after owning multiple cars for more than 25 years. The fluid was topped by dealership. after 3 months decrease below the normal level. It was dx by dealership to have a failed oil separator and engine head gasket. It seems many Taos cars have same problem starting around 16-20 k. This is definitely a manufacturing flaw that could have catastrophic effects on the engine. It should be addressed properly by VW and probably a recall and warranty extension. The car is in dealership with NO ETA for the parts to be ready and for fixing the engine.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Digital Dash goes dark at times, so dark you cant see the speed or any of the gages. You have to pull over shut the car off and wait approx. 40 seconds and then restart, it may or may not do it again.I have read on the vw forum that a lot of Taos owners are having this problem. No help from VW

While driving my vehicle the engine became unable to shift gears or speed up. The check engine light came up and shortly after the EPC light appeared. After coming to a stop, the vehicle died and was unable to turn on. After returning it to the dealer - they informed me it was due to a recall on the VW Taos software which appears to be consistent with the 2022 Taos recalls on AWD vehicles. My car is FWD drive but empierced the same problem and I was not notified of any potential issue. This happened while I was driving to Puerto Penasco, Mexico just south of the Arizona border for a weekend trip. Luckily, my vehicle broke down just outside of the city where we could call a tow truck and safely sit on side of road. The drive is only 4 hours from Phoenix but 90% of the way is through the desert which I feel extremely fortunate this did not happen in a remote area. Volkswagen only provides roadside assistance in the United States, so I had to pay out of pocket to get my car towed across the border and picked up to go to the dealer. My vehicle only has 11,470 miles and is 18 months old. The vehicle was serviced at 10,000 miles and I was not notified of any potential defects.

Driving on the freeway driver cutt me off I had to apply the brakes fast car brakes did not stop the car smooth the brakes grabbed and locked up causing the car to skid off the road did not respond when applied during an emergency to avoid collision. Excessive brake dust and do not stop car.efficiently.

ENGINE
I have had the vehicle for 1 year and 6 months. I have had to put coolant in it 5 times, about once a month. It has been tested 3 times for a leak and there isn’t one. The dealership just keeps telling me it’s a problem with all of them and there is not fix. They won’t even try. No recalls on it, and I just ran out do warranty.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I purchased the 2023 Taos SE at the beginning of may. When accelerating on the highway, the ACC light and engine light came on and the car started rapidly decelerating. Lane assist, cruise control and ACC were not able to be used. I managed to pull to the side of the road, and was towed to a VW dealership in Rochester. The computer came back saying it was bad fuel. They drained the fuel, and charged us due to user error/using the wrong fuel. I have confirmation from the gas station this is incorrect. The next day, the same incident happened when accelerating on the highway. My hometown dealer also ran a report and it came back as bad fuel. They drained the fuel, but kept the car to test drive. I refused to take it back until a different solution was found. They finally were able to recreate the situation, and said there was an issue with a fuel injector module. I picked up my car yesterday, and did not even get home before the car powered down on the highway.

at 20,000 miles the low coolant light came on and I took it to the dealer and they diagnosis it as a leaking through the head gasket my vehicle has been in the shop for approximately one month and to replace the head gasket. Also the information system would not come on or needed to have a hard reset in order to work. Also reported that to the dealer they could not duplicate the problem. This head gasket problem is concerning since it took 5 months to get the part and I was driving around with the issue. Don't know the extend of damage to the car's engine.

I was driving home from work and my vehicle jerked twice and then shut off. The check engine light came on and my car was unable to be used. I shut my vehicle off and waited for 10 minutes and it started back up and I drove it. I have called the dealership, it’s a huge safety issue. I drive 67 miles one way to and from work. Had i been on the freeway this would have been much worse. When i call the dealership no one will assist me.

Rear rotors and brake pads (measured at 2mm) need replaced at 28,500 miles. Front brakes show little to no signs of wear (measured at 10mm). Rear brakes compromised due to premature wearing that do not seem to affect the front axle. This could have affected the safety of the vehicle being able to stop and operating safely.

LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING
The blind spot warning and rear cross traffic warning features are listed on the VIN for my vehicle which I purchased new. However, they are not on the vehicle, I was not told they were not on the vehicle, and I didn't sign anything saying they were not on the vehicle. How can the ADAS (adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning) work without these key features? I don't trust VW to tell me if these other features work and I'm concerned for my safety to try these out.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
I have a 2022 Taos Volkswagen Sport WG. It was purchased in April 2022. In November 2022 was the first time the dash board lights started to go dark and dimming so low that I could not see my driving speed and after turning vehicle on and off it still did not get better, Therefore, I took into Dealership where I purchased vehicle. The service advisor, the service manager and the service Electrician could not figure out what was the cause. I suggested to the service Electrician to see if the Taos they have on lot were also doing the same thing. So he pulled up a new Taos and the new Taos on the car lot was also doing the same thing. I left the vehicle with the dealership to see if they could fix what was going on with the dash light but to no avail, it eventually got brighter and I have heard nothing further from them. On May 11, 2023. Again the dash lights and this time the Radio lights too went very dim, so dim I could not see my speed nor channel selection for radio. I again drove to the dealership and there it is at this point, again the Service Manager came out trying to adjust the light settings, he could not. so he asked if I can leave the vehicle behind so that they can take a better look at it. I was not offered a rental, I did ask for one but he said they have none available! I am very disappointed in VOLKSWAGEN, the only reason I switched vehicle makes was because my daughter had a Volkswagen, but currently seriously about purchasing another make.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V214000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
