While returning home from an outing, I accelerated the gas to switch lanes and the check engine light came on, I heard a gravel like pop noise. And saw smoke coming from my car towards the back. A car next to me told me to pull over as my car was on fire. After finding a safe destination to pull over, the hood of my car and engine caught on fire. Thus resulting to a total loss of the car and assistance from the fire department as well as the police department to deal with the aftermath of the vehicle.

Toyota recall 24TA11 was performed by the dealership. It is a software update to help with braking under certain conditions. However, this update has led to the power tailgate not longer opening. This is an unintended side effect of the update. Several other instances of the tailgate failing after the software update have been reported. Toyota must fix this.

When i unlocked my vehicle and step on the brakes and press the ignition, the car suddenly alarms and says “check hybrid system, ignition on, no key detected”. Several attenpts are made and it keeps happening five times until it stops. This condition kept me from travelling and delayed me for more than 45 minutes.

After the first issues with start stop car would just shut off in the middle of driving, came a new issues In august 2024 When all these lights came on car had been park over night and not driven so it was a fresh start . Warning lights included parking brake system, Drive start control, check engine, vehicle stability control and secondary collision brake system. Corolla cross would not back nor move this time . Took to dealership with no findings or solutions. Again September 2024 same warning lights and car had just been driven 8 miles and was in park. These warning lights are very much a safety concern. Have taken to dealership with no resolution or findings

I had this issue 2 times so far, and I thought I was crazy since it hasn't happened since, but I noticed another report of someone else having the exact same issue. This prompted me to include my own report, as this could be a fatal flaw that needs review immediately. While I was pulling out into traffic from a stop sign to cross multiple lanes, my engine on my 2022 Corolla Cross XLE shut off without any warning. I was stopped at the stop sign, which the engine shut off as it's designed to. Upon releasing the brake, the engine started and I accelerated to cross the lanes to get into the left turning lane. As I accelerated, the engine shut off without any intervention from my part. There were no warnings on the dash, beeps, or error messages. I pressed the accelerator multiple times without any propulsion as traffic to my left was approaching me. Thankfully they slowed down seeing me "stopped" in the middle of the road. After a few seconds of being dead in the water, the engine kicked back on and I was able to accelerate again. The same thing happened at another time that was nearly identical to this situation. I do not remember the exact date of the occurrence, but I believe it was in April of 2023 and the second occurrence was a about a month later. Since then, I have not had this exact issue happen. Although, I have pulled into traffic and had the accelerator not react quickly, which caused me to "crawl forward" at a slow speed, even if I floored the pedal. This issue has happen many times, around 8, since I purchases the car in January of 2023.

While driving in the rain with my windshield wipers on, my car suddenly stopped and the message on the car said “engine stopping, steering slowly” and after that it said “press on brakes slowly, engine stopping , steering slowly” and then it started to cut off. I forcibly put it in park and then the engine came back on and the car started to drive fine. An hour later, I turned my car back on and started driving and my screen went black. I turned the car off and turned it back on and it started working again. I think it could be an electrical issue but I don’t know for sure. I bought this car used with a little over 30k miles on it.

On [XXX] at [XXX], my 2022 Corolla Cross popped up with the message “Engine Maintence Required Visit Your Dealer.” I sat on the phone with Toyota for an hour and a half scheduling and asking for help. I got my car in July of 2024, I only had driven my car for a MONTH when this happened. It was a certified GOLD used toyota vehicle. I went to Lia Toyota of Northampton at 9:00am for my appointment and they could not get me a diagnosis until Monday morning. I drove 100 miles across the state to Ira Toyota of Danvers to get my car looked at. I was in the waiting room for six hours waiting to hear updates— I didn’t get one until two and a half hours of waiting. They said it was a COOLANT BIPASS VALVE issue. And it was a serious one. This was a SERIOUS danger to me and my car. I had to drive 100 MILES to get it fixed. HOWEVER: to get this fixed I missed 6 HOURS of Work, totalling to 195.96 dollars in MISSED payroll. I also had to take TWO HOURS (another 65.32) to get my car fixed. I also spent half a tank of gas to get there (20 dollars). I also missed CLASS on Friday to go to and from my appointment (1.5 hours of missed classes/work). I had a LOT of emotional strain during this. I was ping ponged across the state and told very scary stuff. I am absolutely appalled by this and I want to make sure my voice is heard. the incident has occurred three times since i have had the vehicle, two were at low speed and one was at moderate speed, the brakes initially start to work but in the final stage of braking the brake pedal gets very hard and the brakes seem not to be working for about 1-2 seconds, my natural reaction has been to hit the pedal several times and finally it ends up working. i took the vehicle to the toyota service center and they told me that the brake pads are perfect, when evidently it is not a failure of the break pads, i am not a mechanic but it is evident that the breaks pads are not the problem. Luckyly I didn't have cars in front, 2 stops sign and 1 was a yield sign. Not lights or alerts in the car dashboard.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the front windshield suddenly fractured on the passenger’s side without impact. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the Insurance provider for assistance. The failure mileage was 2,688.

The vehicle, Toyota Corolla Cross seems to have an issue with stopping from a reasonable distance. Unlike other Toyota models, I find it difficult to stop the car in the stop signs and traffic lights with reasonable brake pressures.

I slowed down to turn into my daughter's driveway and park in front of their boat (maybe 5 mph if that). Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed on its own. I hit the brakes with no response. I had to veer to the left of the driveway onto the grass to avoid hitting the boat and garage. The car continued to accelerate (approximately 60-70+ mph) as I tried pumping the break pedal several times with no response (went to floor board with no resistance). I had to maneuver a narrow area at a high rate of speed to avoid hitting the house to my right and trees to my left. As I came down the hill, I approached a large embankment of a knocked over tree, dirt and brush pile. I knew I had to do something or it would be a serious impact. I quickly swerved to my right. I didn't know there was a ditch to the right of this embankment, but thankfully it brought my vehicle to a stop as my front left tire became flat and stuck in the dirt This was very shocking and traumatizing. We verified there was nothing on the floor that would have caused the gas to be accelerated. My car is currently on 3 wheels where it stopped (1 wheel suspended in the air). I received medical care at the ER for back pain. A CT scan showed I had a T12 Vertebrae compression fracture. I was prescribed a back brace, pain medication and an anti-inflammatory. I have also been alternating with a heat pad and ice pack, plus using a cane to help me get around. I will be contacting Toyota as well for an investigation into the problem, but I am scared to drive this vehicle again if if they do check it over. A police report was started on 14 Jul with the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, Oxford, MS, but it hasn't been completed. The report number is 24-003363. It wouldn't let me proceed selecting a report was filed and no report attached, so I chose no and provided report number.

POWER TRAIN
AWD Transmission slips when trying to "shift" and sometimes feels like it loses power while gas is applied. Already brought to dealer for service, and they confirmed it will need a new CVT transmission. This is only after 6 months of ownership. There was no indication on the dashboard lights that the transmission was about to fail, nor was this brought up during regular service intervals. This [XXX] we were travelling up on [XXX] past Baker and the car lost forward momentum, even though I was pressing fully on the gas pedal. We had to coast to the side of the road while the trucks were whizzing by, and had to be towed to the closest Toyota dealership in Las Vegas. At first, there were no warning lights, but after turning the engine off and then on, warnings about the AWD system, Check Engine lights, and a "Drive-Start failure" message started showing. Engine itself had no issues, but it felt like the car was stuck on a high gear (or its CVT equivalent), and refused to move forward and actually rolled back as we were on an incline. Eventually it would move forward and then it seemed like it was no stuck on 1st/launch gear, which it kept up until we got dropped off by the tow truck to Autonation Toyota in Las Vegas, and the car handed off to them. The phone charger stopped working. During driving, the dashboard lights up and then break failed and steering became out of control. As a result, car crushed to another car and went to different lane and hit another car. All airbags deployed. Car is total loss. Police was at the scene. All drivers have minor injuries. Reported the issue to the insurance.

We recently leased a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross. While driving home on I4, there is a section of the road that has (longitudinal) grooves in the road surface between exits 118 and 129. The vehicle starts to bounce 'back and forth' in the lane, as if it wants to change lanes, but it stays in the lane, continually moving from side to side. No indication in the steering wheel that anything is wrong. We brought it to a Toyota dealer, and they said 'some cars have that problem on grooved surfaces, but nothing is wrong with the vehicle'. Transmission failed at 7,000 miles and had to be replaced. Car in repair facility 3/25-5/8/24. 5/18 - Engine slipped out of gear on hill/driveway, wouldn’t engage, unresponsive 5/20 - engine hesitation when taking off 5/21 - engine bogging down on acceleration 5/21 - engine unresponsive when accelerator pressed 5/21 15:40 - rolled over gentle bump at 40mph, screen went black and computer reset 5/21 16:03 - engine didn’t respond when accelerator pressed to floor 5/21 16:51 - car bogged down - issues climbing hill on driveway 5/22 12:48 - car engine jerked while coasting 5/23 20:15 - Start/Stop Unavailable - Battery Charging warning light for Stop Start system 5/23 20:19 - Start/Stop system battery charging message again 5/24 10:18 - engine jerked, car shuddered before engaging 5/25 10:26 - 31mph, engine jerked, car shuddered, lost power on slight incline 5/25 17:58 - proximity alarm alerted on rear passenger’s side - no obstruction present 5/25 18:01 - horn stopped working after depressed for three seconds 5/25 18:03 - car slipped out of gear on slight incline 5/26 - car alerted “For Start/Stop System, press brake harder” Car shuddered, acted as if it was going to stall, then restarted itself even though brake was not depressed fully and car had started rolling forward 5/29 10:18 - “Smart Key Malfunction” error message and car would not start 5/31 21:48 - Auto Start/Stop System Unavailable - Battery Charging warning light 6/01 20:18 - Engine slipped while accelerator pressed, lost power at 39 mph 6/01 20:20 - Engine kept slipping, resulting in pulsing motion of car each mph increase starting at 20 mph and ending at 40 mph 6/02 10:38 - 1:17 video clip taken of proximity alarm misfiring again 6/02 12:27 - pulling onto Central Pike, uphill, car lost power and began shuddering when accelerator pressed 6/2-6/18 - available on request 6/18 - car didn’t respond past 19 mph with accelerator fully pressed - repair shop foreman, customer service manager in car to witness
