- #11740266May 26, 2026POWER TRAIN, ENGINE, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
First incident, vehicle completely lost power and turned off while driving down highway, fortunately I was able to coast in to shoulder and request a tow. Second event the vehicle flashed all warning lights while traveling down interstate and had a quick shudder. This was similar to first incident. However, lights eventually cleared themselves and power wasn’t lost. Third incident vehicle warning lights flashed on and lost power. Eventually restarted and drove to dealership. Mechanic visually witnessed vehicle lose power again while in inspection bay. Engine control module was replaced during visit. Two weeks later, vehicle failed to start again with same symptoms of all the warning lights and check engine lights being on. Vehicle was able to start next day and was driven straight to dealership where it currently sits. These repeated and spontaneous engine failures, including when driving at highway speeds, are an extreme risk to my life and the life of others and are unacceptable for a vehicle with 45,000 miles.

The vehicles Auto-Start-Stop (ESS) works intermittently. Multiple occasions where the system was turned off and the engine quit and would not restart without putting the vehicle in park. Recently the ESS has gone months without shutoff of the engine. However, occasionally it will shut off the engine. Multiple times the engine has shut off while the vehicle is moving, which was very dangerous. Typically after a stop at a traffic light, you begin to drive and the engine quits. This requires you to put the vehicle in park to attempt a restart.

Vehicle experienced two complete electrical failures (total battery drain) within two months. Both batteries were replaced in March 2026 but truck failed again in May 2026. Two open recall campaigns (71X010 and Campaign 25-239 — BCM software update) were identified in March and remain unresolved. Suspect unresolved BCM update is contributing to repeated battery drain. Vehicle required jump start both times and left me stranded.

Made several stops and on the last one when I went to start the vehicle it wouldn't start. Used jump pack and it started. Had a non-flashing check engine light and a service ESC light. Decided to drive across town to auto store and have them check battery and replace if bad, When I pulled into the auto store parking lot the truck died and wheels locked up. (Very sudden stop) All four gear selector lights (PRND) were lit. Thought to myself "I'm glad this didn't happen on the roadway." Turns out the battery was indeed bad, and a new battery got me running again.

Am having issues with my 22 Ram 1500 limited 4x4 with the 5.7 HEMI MDS. there are issues with this engine since 2009. The MDS lifters and cam shaft do not get enough oil. They already replaced the cam shaft and oil pan pickup. Now they have my truck for over 3 weeks to replace the engine. The only problem is that they are replacing it with the same one and hoping again that nothing goes wrong. Called Ram and was basically told too bad. And i have another vehicle with the same engine and it's starting to do the same thing my engine was doing. Asked them to use non MDS so it won't happed again but was basically told too bad. Do not think this is fair since they have known about this problem since 09. If I would have known this,I would have not purchased the 2 vehicles. I think the resolution should be that they install non MDS parts now and when it happens to my 23 JEEP WAGONEER. Thank you and have a great day, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On [XXX] at approximately [XXX], my 2022 RAM 1500 (VIN [XXX] ), equipped with the 5.7L V8 Hemi eTorque mild-hybrid system and currently at 45,000 miles, experienced a sudden engine shutdown and complete loss of throttle response while traveling approximately 25 mph on [XXX] , heading toward Colonia in active evening traffic. The accelerator pedal became unresponsive, the vehicle began coasting, and within seconds the truck shifted itself into PARK and engaged the parking brake automatically. I had to release the parking brake to move the vehicle off the road. After restarting, which required noticeably more cranking than normal, and disabling the auto-brake feature, I attempted to drive again. Within roughly 15 seconds the throttle was sluggish, the rear wheels chirped as the truck jerked and bucked, and the engine died a second time, again shifting into PARK and engaging the parking brake. The safety risk was significant: a sudden, uncommanded loss of motive power on a public road, followed by automatic PARK engagement and parking brake activation in active traffic, created a high risk of a rear-end collision and left me with no throttle control to safely position the vehicle. The only warning indication was a red battery icon that illuminated on the dashboard during the stall events themselves. There were no warning lights, messages, or other symptoms in the days or weeks leading up to the failure. I did experience a single similar stall some time ago during extremely cold weather, but yesterday was a warm day, so a cold-temperature correlation does not appear to apply here. The vehicle has not yet been inspected or the problem reproduced by a dealer, independent service center, manufacturer, police, or insurance representative. After a nearly four-hour wait for a tow truck, the vehicle was transported to Liccardi Ram and is available for inspection upon request. The symptom pattern (sudden engine shutdown at low spee INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Purchased my used RAM October 2024. On 5 occasions the engine stalled while driving. Lost all power and rolled to a stop when the parking brake engaged. Most recent incident was May 17, 2026. I went to my dealer with this complaint May 14th, there were no codes and I was told truck was operating as designed. I am unable to duplicate the event - but it happens when I slow down and then speed up - Stop sign, parking lot etc. Potentially I could have run over someone or crashed or someone could have struck me. I received no warning before the stall. The check engine light did not come on. While stalled the following messages appeared on my dashboard 1. press brake and push button to start; 2. Shifter autocorrect active; 3. Park brake auto engaged press brake + push switch to release. The truck restarted but battery light remained on and the lightning bolt red light stayed on.

[XXX] Fire occurred while driving [XXX] my Ram 2021 and it was like a mini blast with a lot of sparks as I saw in a rear-view mirror. Everything went out on the dashboard and the car stopped at the Top of Wolf Creek Pass [XXX] . I got out of the car and saw a small fire burning under the car. The fire under the car went out on its own. The very shape of the hole (perfectly round) in my muffler indicates an explosion that occurred simultaneously. Also, the fused edges of the round hole indicate a high temperature during this explosion and fire. I disagree that this fair damage [XXX] my Ram 2021 3.0 ecodiesel [XXX] is considered from Progressive insurance as simple "wear and tear." estimate only $1669,78. Garber Collision Pontiac repaired the Ram 2021 by 04.24.2026 and replaced the damaged wiring harness ($1161 self-pay) as required by Progressive. After this repair, the Ram 2021 was unable to move and was delivered to the Tucson Ram dealer on 05/04/2026. The dealer did not indicate the root cause of the damage in the estimate. The car was also returned to me by the dealer. When I asked the dealer on 05.12.2026 to indicate the root cause of the damage, the dealer replied that he was not aware of such a similar damage and indicated that the warranty on the car has expired and there are no open recalls. But The dealer's initial assessment from 05.13.2026 (estimates $9325.25) indicates the fire was caused by a failure of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler, which is a known issue (similar to recall VB1/19V-757) where the cooler cracks, leaks coolant, and causes a fire in the intake manifold. This is a component failure resulting in an explosion/fire, not typical wear. I need a diagnostic report that specifically mentions the EGR cooler failure as the source of the fire. I give my full consent for Ram Manufacturing to send an independent inspector to me for Ram 2021 3.0 Ecodisel INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA Safety Complaint Draft Vehicle: 2025 Ram 1500 VIN: [XXX] Mileage at First Incident: 3920 Mileage at Most Recent Incident: 13,000 (approx.) Complaint Summary: My 2025 Ram 1500 has a recurring safety critical defect that causes the truck to suddenly and unpredictably decelerate from highway speeds (around 70 mph to 55 mph) down to approximately 5 mph, even though the engine RPMs remain around 4,000. This creates an immediate risk of being rear ended or causing a multi vehicle crash. Full Description of the Problem: While driving at normal highway speeds, the vehicle suddenly loses propulsion without warning. The truck slows rapidly to about 5 mph, dealership verbally described as “limp mode” to protect itself, despite the engine continuing to rev at high RPMs. During these events, the dashboard and infotainment system display incorrect and erratic information, including: - Transmission indicator switching into 4WD, Park, or 1st gear while the vehicle is moving - Navigation activating on its own - Screen freezing, glitching, or displaying inaccurate data This defect has occurred multiple times and is unpredictable, making the vehicle unsafe to operate. Repair Attempts: I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Ram dealership on multiple occasions for the same issue: - Repair Attempt #1: 03/20/2025 - Repair Attempt #2: 10/02/2025 - Repair Attempt #3: 10/30/2025 - Repair Attempt #4: 11/17/2025 - Repair Attempt #5: 05/12 2026 The dealership has replaced PCM harness, transfer case control module, DTCM, performed software updates and claimed the issue was resolved, but the defect continues to occur. They have also stated they “cannot replicate” the problem, despite multiple documented incidents. Safety Risk: This defect poses a serious risk of collision, especially at highway speeds. The sudden loss of propulsion and incorrect gear display could easily result in a rear end crash INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving at freeway speeds when the vehicle lost engine power and all the electronics in the vehicle stopped functioning. I was able to safely get the side of the road and stop the vehicle. Had vehicle towed to dealership. Tech inspected remote frequency hub (RFH) and observed corrosion on the circuit board. It looked as if water intrusion had occurred inside the vehicle, entered the RFH, causing corrosion and circuit failure. Believe intrusion occurred in the third brake light at the top of the cab. I am reporting this matter because a failure in the RFH caused the vehicle to stop functioning. I was lucky to be traveling on a straight, wide road and could safely get to a stop. I don't believe this would have been the case if I was on a curve or narrow road.
