I am reporting a serious safety concern involving the transmission/power train of my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited, VIN [XXX], with fewer than 80,000 miles. The transmission failed suddenly when I was approximately one minute away from entering a highway. The vehicle became inoperable and left me stranded in an isolated area with little or no cellular reception, and I had to find assistance. Had the transmission failed one minute later while I was traveling at highway speed, I could have been seriously injured or killed. I could have died because of this failure. Or I could've killed or injured someone else on the road. There were no meaningful warning lamps, dashboard messages, or other advance warnings that alerted me that a complete transmission failure was imminent. The transmission failure was confirmed through the repair process by the service facility that repaired the vehicle. The transmission has already been repaired, and I have repair invoices, diagnostic records, and service documentation available upon request. I was without my vehicle for nearly one month while the issue was being addressed. The vehicle has not, to my knowledge, been inspected by Jeep/Stellantis in connection with this safety complaint. I contacted Jeep Customer Care and specifically reported this as a safety concern, but I was told that a claim could not be opened or assigned to a case manager because the vehicle is no longer under warranty. I work from home, drive the vehicle relatively little, keep my vehicles in very good condition, and have completed required maintenance. Despite this, the transmission failed before 80,000 miles. I have also experienced radiator/cooling-system failure, a failed brake caliper & repeated brake/rotor issues. I am asking NHTSA to document and review this sudden transmission failure and determine whether it is consistent with other known safety-related transmission problems involving the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. This last Monday, September 28, the Active head restraint in headrest broke/blew out and exploded into my head while driving on street (no collision, pothole, bump or jarring) causing pain, panic, and avoidance maneuver. Worried it will happen again possibly to someone else in passenger seat, and I am afraid to drive the car. Apparently there is an active 10 year extended warranty out for this issue, but the car may not be in that 10 year window. Still need to check with dealer, and has not been inspected except by us, but have serious doubts about their helping. This is a serious problem and should be a safety recall and replaced for free immediately. No warning lamps or messages beforehand.

- #11768081September 30, 2026AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS
The driver’s seatbelt sensor constantly goes off as not detecting that the seatbelt is buckled, while driving; this causes the alarm to continuously beep and also disables the airbag. Aside from the seatbelt issue, there is a standalone airbag issue that has been detected by the car’s health report multiple times. The drive shaft is also defective, causing the car to shake when the car hits 73 mph. The auto stop/start also disables on its own. I have taken it to the dealership to get all of this fixed but all issues have persisted. There are active recalls on these issues for other 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokees but they are not attached to my vehicle even though my vehicle has the same recall issues.

- #11767689September 29, 2026STRUCTURE:INTERIOR PANELS:DASHBOARD
My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit with approximately 39,000 miles. The leather dashboard is delaminating and separating from the substrate. My Jeep dealer has inspected it and checked my VIN. They confirmed that Jeep previously provided extended coverage for essentially this type of dashboard delamination on 2011–2014 Grand Cherokees, but my VIN isn’t included. The vehicle is only slightly beyond the 36,000-mile basic warranty, and I don’t believe a premium leather dashboard should be delaminating at this age and mileage.

The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 60–65 MPH, the vehicle made a rattling sound. The following day, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a technician installed a screw to secure a hanging plastic panel. However, the issue recurred while driving 45 MPH. Upon returning to the residence, the contact inspected the hanging plastic panel and retrieved a detached bolt that had fallen inside. The contact believed that it was a chassis bolt. The contact's friend secured the bolt in place with a small wrench. Another service appointment was scheduled with the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Recall 20V-475 / 23V-411 software patch was performed, but the underlying magnetic tone wheel defect has now physically failed, causing an active crankshaft position sensor error and stall hazard. While traveling 60mph the car stalled and went into limp mode with no prior warning. The vehicle has been diagnosed at a repair shop as a fault with the crankshaft position sensor performance which was apart of a pervious recall listed above. The vehicle has not been inspected by any others at this time as its not safe to drive and do not want out of pocket cost to do so.

My vehicle is subject to three safety recalls: 78C / NHTSA 25V‑766 (Engine Fire Risk) 68C / NHTSA 25V‑741 (High Voltage Battery Defect) NHTSA 25V‑576 (Battery Pack Control Module microprocessor overload) Because of the fire risk, I was unable to park in my driveway for approximately two months, resulting in loss of use. During this same period, the vehicle could not be charged, eliminating the hybrid functionality and forcing me to rely solely on gasoline. After recall remedies were performed, the vehicle’s performance and safety degraded significantly: Electrical / Hybrid System Failures: Hybrid battery capacity reduced Vehicle no longer charges itself while driving Air conditioning output reduced Engine idles excessively high 12‑volt battery warning showing “<1%,” creating risk of no‑start and electrical instability Electronic doors fail to lock/unlock reliably Hatchback foot‑activation sensor works intermittently Radio has remained on after vehicle shutdown Windshield wipers do not respond to rain sensor, causing dangerous visibility delays Display / Camera Failures: Display screen randomly changes or freezes Screen turned completely off when shifting into reverse, eliminating the backup camera view Transmission / Drivability Issues: Loud, jerky downshifting Delay engaging when shifting into drive These issues are ongoing and affect multiple safety‑critical systems including propulsion, electrical stability, visibility, and rear‑view camera functionality. The vehicle does not meet the expected performance of the Overland Hybrid 4xe and is unreliable and unsafe to operate. I am requesting NHTSA review due to repeated electrical failures, hybrid system malfunction, loss of use, and safety‑critical defects following recall remedies.

- #11767124September 26, 2026VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
After turning into a parking lot and VERY slowly turning right to enter a designated parking space my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly, with no warning or prompting, highly accelerated forward causing the Jeep to jump up over the curb, ran over a bush which lifted the left side front tire off the ground, continued high acceleration forward making an immediate and abrupt stop colliding into an eletrical power pole at the right front end, both airbags deployed. This happen in a moment's time with no time to react, distance from acceleration to impact with electrical pole approximately 12 feet. No passengers, the driver received contusions and abraisions. 911 was called, local city police responded & report written, Ambulance called to assist injured driver, tow truck transported Jeep to requested Body Shop, Insurance company notified. Jeep released from Body Shop transported by Insurance Company for Inspection. Had the accleration not stopped due to collision with power pole the vehicle would have entered and crossed a 5 lane main street against traffic directions at a stoplight which could have resulted in many collisions and injuries to other motorists. Insurance company has totaled the vehicle and unknown if inspection(s) have been completed by all interested parties. Owner/Driver has not been notified of any further inspection results.

The alternator failed. It was the Safety Recall P60 (NHTSA 14V-634) remedy alternator, installed by an authorized FCA dealer when the recall was completed on 08/30/2021, as FCA confirmed in writing. On 09/24/2026, at 41,275 miles, the vehicle had no electrical power and would not start. An independent New York State registered repair facility diagnosed the failure as "no power," "not starting," and "bad alternator (burning)," and replaced the alternator assembly the same day. The remedy alternator failed about 5 years after installation. The vehicle averages under 3,000 miles per year. The mileage at installation is in FCA's records and is UNKNOWN to me. Safety risk: the P60 recall states that these alternator diodes can fail rapidly with no output or a short to ground, which can disable ABS, electronic stability control, and the engine and body controllers, and can cause vehicle shutdown while driving and an underhood electrical fire, with limited or no warning to the driver. This failure is consistent with that description: total loss of power and a burning alternator. Had it failed while driving, the vehicle could have shut down in traffic. Warning lamps or symptoms before the failure: UNKNOWN. Availability of the removed alternator for inspection: UNKNOWN. FCA has not inspected the vehicle or the component. It declined to cover the repair, first stating that the recall was completed and no recall is open, then stating that completed recall repairs are covered for only 24 months. It made no finding that this failure differs from the recall condition. In its 14V-634 report, FCA stated that the remedy alternators used the same diodes as its 180 amp alternator, which it said did not exhibit the condition. In 2017, FCA recalled 180 amp alternators (NHTSA 17V-435) for diode thermal fatigue. I ask NHTSA to evaluate whether P60 remedy alternators are failing in service and whether the P60 remedy was adequate.
