In late January 2025 I took my Ioniq 5 (an EV) to the dealer for service under a recall. The service called for a software update in regard to the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The next time i attempted to charge the car charging failed. The dealer subsequently determined that the ICCU had failed. The car has been in the shop for two months and counting, as Hyundai is unable to supply the parts necessary for the repair. This happened without warning, although there are many other reports of similar incidents.

Car just died in the middle of a 3 lanes highway. It was the ICCU issue, barely any warning to stop and then when it died, no light, 4 way flasher or anything to communicate to other drivers about our disabled vehicle. It was 3:30 am in the morning, had to call Colorado Highway Patrol to come and help out while we waited for the tow truck. We found reports of the fail ICCU, this is something that can put any family in a very unsafe situation.

Error message indicate loss of charge capacity. Car slowed down, with enough range to pull off the road. Dealer indicates the integrated charge control unit (ICCU) failed, and quit charging the 12 volt system. Waiting for parts (1 month so far). Seems like the same issue reported under NHTSA recall 272 for the Ioniq 5 Does Hyundai have a list of failed ICCU’s, and whether there might be a batch of these units that are failing, or is this just a random occurrence?

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed while I was driving to work. I was on the highway in the middle of a blizzard and the "Check Electric Vehicle Systems" warning popped up on my dash. It then when into a turtle mode and my car would no longer go above 15 - 20 mph. I had to exit the freeway very abruptly because my speed was dropping quickly. It was already extremely dangerous driving that day, this just added on top of it. It is available for inspection, it's been sitting at my dealership since March 6th because the ICCU is back ordered and there is no ETA when one will become available. The dealership has inspected and confirmed it is a faulty ICCU. There were no other problems with the car until the warning appeared on the dash. The ICCU has had 3 manufacturer recalls for the ICCU previously. Which I have gone in to the dealership for.

I purchased this vehicle on [XXX] in the state of Colorado and had to drive it home through a winter storm to California. While driving home the vehicle on multiple occasion the vehicle flagged driver assist disabled or inoperable errors due to "radar blocked" stopping and checking the front of the vehicle I found that the car had no snow or ice build up on the exterior of the bumper, and there was no reason that all the driver assist and even safety features like Automatic Emergency Braking had been disabled. In addition while making this drive home, the vehicle passenger side wiper failed catastrophically. Over a 30 day process the local dealer replaced the broken wiper blade motor, and determined there was nothing wrong with the internal Auto assist system, even stating there were no DTC/ or error codes present. I provided them with images of the errors and millage, but nothing further could be done because they could not "replicate the issue" and no codes are being stored. At around 1430 miles I was driving in dry, warmer weather (around 50 degrees) when another error flashed on my screen again. I brought the vehicle back to the dealership for diagnostics, where they have yet to determine the issue again. They've stated no DTC or error codes are present, and they can not reproduce the issue so the vehicle is operating "normally and designed". I have been working with Hyundai Consumer Affairs during this entire time to help speed this process along, they have no answer other than, if the error appears again, do not turn of the vehicle, drop everything your doing in your life and bring it directly to the dealership for diagnostics (even if its active safety features are not working while your driving it). My car is an EV. I was charging the vehicle and it quit. I had just enough charge to limp to the dealership where it was diagnosed with ICCU failure. According to you records my car is not under a recall but the part failed. Glad I wasn't on the road. So my car has sat at the dealership since February 24th. Hyundai doesn't seem concerned about getting the parts to the dealership. This is why they can't give me an ETA: "Please note that part orders can take several days or even weeks to arrive depending on the availability and supply chain logistics, as outlined in Hyundai's policies." So they are still turning out Ioniqs but can't be bothered to make sure cars with an ICCU failure are safe and can drive. I can't sell my car and I am stuck. I also believe the 1% you say are effected by this problem is much higher.

My 2022 Ioniq 5 had an ICCU failure in March 2025. It has been with the dealership for 10 days. It does not charge on 220 v AC L2 charger. It does charge on public DC fast chargers but at approximately 120 KWH not 350 KWH. There are no error codes on the dash, however the ChargePoint charger trips with a GFCI fault. GFCI fault in a high voltage system could pose a serious safety issue. ChargePoint (the L2 charger manufacturer) support checked, and said they see a GFCI fault when my car is plugged in. To make sure it is not a charger error, I had another car, a Kia EV6 plugged in to the same ChargePoint charger, and it charged normally.

I purchased a 2024 Ionic 5 on January 29th on a day without rain/snow. The first time it rained I found out that there was no rear wiper. I assumed there to be one as its a SUV with a slanted back window, not straight up and down. When it rains or snows the water/snow just sits on the back window, making it impossible to see out the back window. I know every Ionic 5 is like this. On researching the 2025's now have them due to customer feedback. I don't believe this is a convenience issue, but a safety one not being able to see out the back window.

- #11652207April 2, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, SERVICE BRAKES
The Forward Attention Warning system in the refreshed 2025 Ioniq 5 gives constant false positives for both my wife and myself when we are driving the car. With Hyundai's HDA and lane keep active, the system keeps chiming, claiming that the driver is not looking at the road when we are. In fact, the calibration is so poor that it is a safety issue. The constant random warnings are very distracting, and sometimes the system does not recapture your eyes before timing out and hard braking the car on the highway. This is really unacceptable and a safety issue that I'm surprised Hyundai thought it could release. Lots of evidence of other owners with this problem on the Internet: [XXX] [XXX] and many others. Was driving in Bellevue, WA leaving a parking lot. Heard a "pop" sound, and immediately had a "Check Electrical System" warning come up on the dash. From previous experience in 2024, was aware this requires immediate dealer inspection, so started driving to the dealer 6 miles away. After less than a mile, lost most power but was able to drive slowly into an office parking lot. Called Hyundai Roadside Assistance who sent a flat bed tow truck to transport the car to the dealer. ICCU was replaced in May 2024 after similar symptoms. The current ICCU (which is likely the failed component) was in service for less than a year.

My Ioniq 5 has encountered the renowned "ICCU" failure -- 35k miles in, 2.5-3yrs of ownership. I had a loud 'pop' noise behind my driver seat occur and then my vehicle went into limp mode. The ICCU failure is confirmed by the dealer, but the part is on massive backorder nationwide...

My electric car lost power while driving with no warning. It came to a stop in the middle of the road and a message came on the screen that said "Stop vehicle and check power supply". There was no advanced warning and I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. Upon inspection by the dealer I was told the ICCU unit failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer stated the the part was on backorder and there was no ETA for the part. Thankfully I was not driving on the freeway or I may not have been able to get the car to the shoulder. It was a very scary thing to lose all power in the middle of the road.

Instrument panel on car will not turn on when car is started. Thus, all advanced cruise control and safety systems do not function. Car has not been to the dealership for repair yet. There were no warnings or any other indication that there was an impending problem.

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The electric vehicle system appears to have failed, preventing the car from starting and staying on. Even after attempting to jump the 12V battery, the vehicle would briefly turn on and then immediately shut off. This issue was previously confirmed by the dealer about four months ago, and they supposedly fixed it. However, it has now happened again, leaving the car completely inoperable for the second time. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This failure left me completely without transportation for the second time, which is a serious reliability and safety concern. If this had occurred in traffic or in an emergency situation, it could have posed a major risk, as the vehicle is unable to move at all. Additionally, because this issue has recurred despite prior repairs, it raises concerns about the reliability of the vehicle’s electrical or power management system and the effectiveness of past fixes. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the problem was previously confirmed by the dealer about four months ago, and they claimed to have fixed it. However, the issue has returned, meaning the original repair did not fully resolve the problem. At this time, it has not yet been re-inspected for the second occurrence. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The dealer inspected the vehicle during the first occurrence four months ago. However, for this second occurrence, it has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other authorities. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, multiple warning messages and symbols appeared on the da

ICCU failed while driving. Causing the car to dangerously decelerate with little to no warning. The car then bricked itself on the side of the road. Diagnoses is a failed ICCU. This failure was insanely dangerous as the car lost all power and would not accelerate.

Plugged the car into an L2 AC charger like I have for nearly 2 years, the car tripped a breaker in my electrical panel and after restoring power to the charger, the car would no longer initiate a charge on L2 power. Confirmed this by attempting to charge at a public L2 charger, same result. Took the car to Hyundai and they confirmed the ICCU needs to be replaced and it's a wait of up to 8 weeks.

These cars had an open campaign earlier in the year to check for faulty ICCUs. Mine was check in Jan and deemed to be good. In early Feb I was driving home alone late at night and suddenly I was unable to go faster than 20mph and in a matter of minutes the car shut off. It had to be towed and the dealer informed me the ICCU failed. It was very scary and extremely dangerous. This has been happening so often with the Ioniq 5's and there should be a mass recall.

Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE AWD VIN: [XXX] Mileage at issue onset: ~18,000–22,000 miles Purchase date: April 2022 Ownership type: Purchased new, paid in full Component Affected: Electrical System → Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) / Charging System Problem Description: I am reporting a persistent and unresolved charging system failure involving the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) in my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. This defect has rendered the vehicle unreliable and currently inoperable, leaving me without safe transportation for myself and my infant child. Over the past year, I’ve brought the vehicle to the dealership more than 10 times, including 6 visits in just the last 3 months, due to charging issues that were supposed to be addressed via multiple recall campaigns (e.g., Campaigns 228, 997, 9A1, 9B5, 272, TCP). Despite these attempted software and firmware updates, the issue persists and culminated in a total failure to charge in March 2025. The dealership confirmed ICCU failure again, but advised that the part is on indefinite backorder, with no timeline for repair or safe operation. This defect is dangerous, particularly as it can result in loss of power and stranding, with potential risks to driver and passenger safety. Hyundai is aware of this widespread issue among Ioniq 5 owners but has not issued a permanent fix or offered viable alternatives to affected consumers. Hyundai denied my Lemon Law claim despite substantial repair documentation and admitted ICCU defects. I have filed with the BBB Auto Line and IL Attorney General. I’m now preparing for legal action. This is not just a consumer issue — it’s a national electric vehicle safety issue involving Hyundai’s inability to resolve a known, system-wide defect in a core safety component. Attachments: Available upon request: repair invoices, dealer assessments, Hyundai’s denial letter, lemon law filings. Used the remote climate start which was working when I went out to the car. The car let me in; but would not respond to start until finally the dash lit up with a lot of electrical system warning lights. The dash then went dark and the car would not respond. I was locked out and had to use the physical key to reenter the car when I got out to check to see if the lights were on. I had it towed to the dealer where an ICCU failure was diagnosed. The replacement ICCU is on back order with no ETA. They do not have any loaners available and Hyundai Corporate customer service has been giving me delays refusing to say if they will reimburse me for a rental. Had previously done all the software updates and inspections at the dealer for the recalls for the ICCU.
