Hyundai Ioniq EV's have a continuing issue with a component called that "ICCU". The ICCU and high voltage fuse failed even after two recalls meant to monitor that problem and update the software. Luckily, mine failed in my driveway at home which did not put me in immediate risk. However, many people have this part fail while driving on roads and highways with zero warning. There have been two ICCU-related recalls that my car has had. When I started my vehicle I heard a "pop" and then the dashboard said "Check vehicle electrical system" and then shows the "limp mode" icon allowing to drive the vehicle at a slow speed to safety.

Recall 272 was addressed on Dec 31, 2024. ICCU and fuse replaced; software updated. On 4/26/2025, 'Low voltage on the 12 volt battery, stop safely’ warned came on when I tried to start the car. The car was used several times earlier in the day and is used daily (i.e., does not sit idle). No other warnings were noticed prior to this failure.

On [XXX], I was in New Jersey waiting for my mother to finish shopping. In an effort to preserve battery life, I turned off the engine while waiting. Upon her return, I placed my foot on the brake pedal and started the car. As soon as I shifted the gear into "Drive," the vehicle made an unusual sound and began to roll forward. At no point did I remove my foot from the brake pedal, and I immediately applied more pressure. However, the brakes did not respond. Panicked by the fact that a parked car was directly in front of me, I quickly shifted the gear into "Park" to engage the emergency brake. Fortunately, this action brought the vehicle to a stop, and no damage occurred. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it after which the brakes functioned properly. The experience was extremely alarming. This is not the first time I have experienced this issue. On [XXX], a similar incident occurred while I was stopped at a red light. At that time, I assumed I may not have applied sufficient pressure to the brake pedal. The car rolled forward and made contact with the vehicle in front of me, resulting in a minor accident and a cracked front headlight. Given that this has now happened twice, I am concerned about the possibility of a recurring brake system failure and am worried for my safety and the safety of others. - Brake Failure, it is available for inspection upon request - if I didn’t act quickly and pressed the emergency brake, it would have resulted in an accident. Damage to my car and damage to the car In front of me. And could have resulted in injury to myself. -I have not taken the vehicle to the dealership or service center yet as I have not driven it since the incident. However, I have scheduled an appointment for this upcoming weekend. -there were no warning lamps messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. - #11656292April 23, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Vehicle stopped responding to all inputs while cruising on the highway. Vehicle was charged and running fine up until that point, for about 40 minutes of continuous driving. Accelerator pedal, regen paddle shifters, cruise control buttons all would not work and display was unresponsive. Vehicle slowly lost speed as if it was shifted into neutral, forcing us to pull over to the side of the road. Turning vehicle off, waiting for a minute, and turning it back on restored functions. Vehicle malfunction occurred right after a busy intersection on LA highways and we were able to make it to the shoulder, but if it had happened just 1-2 minutes earlier, we would have been in a lot of traffic merging in and out of lanes at significant speeds. There were no warning lights, messages, or auditory alerts during the occurrence. Vehicle simply lost all power. When I took it into the dealer for inspection the next day, the service staff were unable to find any issues or errors during diagnostics. Battery health was in the green and vehicle checked out fine and was released to me after a thorough inspection.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle lost power with the message 12-Volt battery low. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V868000 (Electrical System) and 24V204000 (Electrical System). The contact stated that approximately three weeks later while the vehicle was parked, the message 12-Volt battery low was displayed on the instrument panel. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled three weeks in advance. After driving the vehicle to the residence and the vehicle was parked, the vehicle failed to start. The battery was recharged for 15 minutes, and the vehicle was able to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 4,000.

-The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) component failed. The vehicle experienced multiple electrical system warnings before losing functionality. The component should be available for inspection upon request. -The vehicle lost power while I was driving. The "Stop Vehicle" alert appeared, requiring me to immediately find a safe location. Had this happened in high-speed traffic or an unsafe environment, it could have led to an accident or left me stranded in a hazardous situation. -the problem has been confirmed by a dealer. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership following the issue, but it has not been examined by other entities such as police or insurance representatives. -Yes, the “Check Electrical System” warning appeared twice briefly before disappearing weeks/months prior. However, no immediate issues followed those warnings at the time. The day of the failure, the "Check Electrical System" alert appeared again, followed by a "Stop Vehicle" warning a minute later. After pulling over safely, a "12V Battery Depletion" alarm also appeared.

Leaving an appt and the car gave a battery ! Warning. While is was looking for a place to pull over the Stop Check Vehicle Electric System. I pulled into a parking lot when the Turtle came up and I was barely able to back into a space. The car was dead within 10 mins of leaving until I parked. I commute daily on an interstate and that would not have given me much time to pull of the interstate to a safe location. Longer warning is needed. Dealer has the car and confirmed it is the ICCU unit and no eta on the part. Yet they are selling 2025 Ionic 5.

Component called ICCU fails. Car loses power, cannot be driven, cannot be charged. Can easily leave you stranded. Research shows this is widespread issue. I spoke with 2 dealerships, each has over 1 dozen cars in this lot that have been brought to the service department with the ICCU failure issue and cannot be driven.

- The ICCU assembly failed while I was driving on the highway. - The ICCU failed even after I had the car taken in due to a recall on the ICCU unit. In other words, the repair that they suggested I do to the ICCU DID NOT WORK, which means I was driving a dangerous vehicle. - When the ICCU failed, the car slowed down to 25 miles an hours and then a crawl while I was driving on the highway with my family. I was lucky to not get into an accident. - I have taken the car into the dealer and they have told me it will take up to two months to get the ICCU fully replaced because the unit in my car failed even though I had it repaired during the recall. - I have contacted Hyndai requesting they buy back my car because it is unsafe to drive. They have not responded. - YOU NEED TO GET THIS SORTED OUT ASAP. THE RECALL REPAIR ON THE ICCU DID NOT WORK AND THERE ARE OTHER CARS THAT ARE AT RISK OF FAILING.

ICCU and High Voltage Fuse blew suddenly and without warning on a 50 mph poorly lit road before sunrise. Vehicle immediately entered limp mode in traffic. Car could not make it safely back home before losing all power in the middle of the road (no warning was given that limp mode was about to fail it just stopped with all screens still on).The dead 12v battery (which the ICCU failed to recharge) made the car completely immobile once it turned off even for towing purposes. Put my safety as a driver and those on the road with me at risk with the vehicle drastically slowing down in the middle of travel with no way for others to pass me. Problem confirmed as the ICCU failure by dealer after finally restoring enough power to get the vehicle in neutral to be towed. The pending recall on this Vin is only pending because it is still sitting waiting for the replacement part a month later. no ETA on a resolution as Hyundai has stopped responding to requests for any information on timelines other than "eventually it will be replaced". All previous recalls for this problem were completed but were only software updates to "potential lower chances of occurrence". Issue is a very known Hardware issue and is very well documented online and local dealers are extremely familiar with it, but Hyundais solution is only to check if the part has already failed and a software update that does not fully prevent the failure in the future. Issue still occurred. no prior warning or behaviors were given

Have gotten all recalls fixed associated with the ICCU; car has less than 15000 miles on it and suddenly lost power, “check electrical system” and “power limited” lights flashing. We had no warning prior, and had just arrived back 2 days before from a long road trip. While I’m glad it happened while close to home, we still had to have our vehicle towed to the dealership and it took 3 business days to diagnose the issue (ICCU failure). We were put at risk due to the sudden change of status and inability to access the contents of our car after the power died (including my toddlers car seat).

While reversing slowly, I heard a "pop" noise (sounded like balloon popping) from the rear of the vehicle, and within 15 seconds later, a "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning appeared on the dash alongside the check engine light. About 5 minutes later, I received another warning that said "Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply" and noticed the car was losing power. Was able to get it home to get it towed, but this was within 2 months after receiving the ICCU recall for this vehicle, and it seems the ICCU has failed again.

4/13/25 - Check electrical system appears onscreen. Vehicle the goes in "turtle mode", not allowing it to accelerate over 20 mph. Car then shuts down and will not go into gear. I have done all service recalls as required by the manufacturer. Very unsafe and disappointed that Hyundai has not resolved this issue. All they do is update the software, they never address the actual issue. Diagnostic not scheduled for (2) days. Now I'm without a vehicle this week as they have a waiting list for loaners.
