I have had my vehicle's oil changes done regularly and have copies of those receipts. It only has 64,961 miles. While driving to work on 11/6/23 on a busy road my car gave me a "dangerously low oil pressure" warning light and I could hear a loud noise from my engine. The car behind me almost hit me as I began to slow; very glad I was not on the interstate yet. We had not had any problems with the engine before and have had no comments of concerns from mechanics during regular maintenance. We had it towed to the Ford dealership where I bought it, Steve Marsh in Milan, TN. They diagnosed the problem as being a failure of the oil pump belt and said I need a new engine that will cost $6,200. This belt is not due to be replaced until 150,000 miles per my owner's manual. It is still at the dealership and is available for inspection. It is not covered by factory warranty and I don't have a service plan. The dealership and I have both contacted Ford separately and were told they do not have any assistance to pay for this problem at this time. I have case # [XXX] from Ford. From my research online, what I was told by the dealer and a separate mechanic, this is a known problem with this engine and there is no way to know it is going bad until it happens. The low oil level indicator light went on while I was driving in my 2019 Ford EcoSport. I stopped at an auto parts store and had them add oil. The light did not go off when we tried to clear the sensor. I drove it home (about a mile) and it struggled to pick up speed and the engine started to knock. I did some research on the model and the government is currently looking into to this issue and there are several lawsuits. All have indicated they were just out of the warranty and the entire engine needed to be replaced. It is going to cost me thousands of dollars to fix this. I was told that there is not indication that there are any issues with the engine or fuel pump until it is too late. There is an open case with the NHTSA (SSM 48093) so this is a very well known issue and will continue to get worse with other EcoSport drivers as they near 60,000 miles. It is HORRIBLE business practice to do this to customers. I now have to pay thousands of dollars for a problem I did not know about it was too late. Ford needs to take responsibility for this.

The swing gate ajar light comes on and the swing gate opens slightly (doesn’t fully open) while driving. This causes me to pull off the road and open, then close the door. This has happened while driving on the expressway and late at night which causes a safety concern. I have brought it to 2 different dealerships, but neither was able to reproduce it. There is no warning or reason this happens. It just random.

I had my 2019 Ford Ecosport serviced to have a new battery and brakes installed on it by my local Ford dealership. Approximately 5 days after I picked it up from the dealership, I was on my way to work and driving down I-75 (going approximately 70 mph). I received a sudden notification on my dash that I had low oil engine pressure. I made my way over to the right lane, and started to slow down so I could pull over. I made it to about 30 MPH when my car turned off, my brakes locked, and my steering wheel locked. I had to push with excessive force on the brakes to completely stop the vehicle, and pull with excessive force to make it turn off to pull over. I checked the oil, and it was not low. So, I had it towed to the dealership. Here they told me that a belt had slipped in my engine and caused significant bearing damage. The base estimate that I was given for repairs was 9,000 dollars, and that if my car was manufactured less than a month sooner that these repairs may have been covered by Ford because it is a known issue with this make and model car. I was very concerned that I would not be able to stop my car safely on the highway and now I don't see how I can pay for the repairs.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Ecosport. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to below 60 MPH independently. The low oil pressure and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the oil pump had failed, causing damage to the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 74,000.

Car started stalling out then not starting every time filled up with gas, Ford service center took 2 months saying it wouldn't harm the car and then had to replace the purge valve on 10/5/23. On 11/11/23 the low oil pressure light came on without any issues beforehand, oil life at 36%, oil on dipstick. The car lost power when trying to accelerate and started making ticking noise from under the hood. Determined to be failed oil pump and engine, engine has to be replaced.

I bought a 2020 Ford EcoSport with the 1.0 L engine on Nov. 7, 2020 in Houston, Tx. The car has 67,703 miles. Last night (Nov. 13, 2023 my low oil pressure light came on and then a big clank sound. I got vehicle transported home and researched and seen the Faulty Oil Pump and Belts set up that could’ve severely harm my family, or others if the engine would have seized up while driving. I took my vehicle into a Ford in Simi Valley, Ca sometime between summer/fall 2022 because I had a lower power indication on the vehicle at around 50 something thousand miles to see what was wrong. The service agent told that they fixed the power sensor due the elevation difference from Texas to California and I live in the valley. And it was covered under warranty, but they failed to inform me of this sensor was the beginning warning of faulty belt system, that the oil pump belt was rubber and it runs through the oil constantly and you should thinking about changing that now or next time. Nothing was mentioned, my Ford app would send me monthly updates and it would say Drive- Train is Ok, only lower tire pressure. I have called around to multiple Fords and mechanics and they said the same think oil pump issue, and Ford told me because I’m 7,000 miles over my warranty I am no longer cover and I am responsible for the services, and I am a single mom of 4 in Ca alone, that was my means of transportation, I can’t afford that cost. Especially when I was not made aware of this serious default. That is completely unacceptable as this is a 3 year vehicle that was well maintained, and the Ford Company and their Service staff are well aware of this issue which could’ve severely harm or even killed my family or others on the road if the engine seized up while on the highway, so they say nothing close to my warranty expired and then they are no longer responsible. Extremely irresponsible, and unacceptable from a reputable vehicle manufacturing company.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Ecosport. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at approximately 60–65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. Two days prior to the failure, the vehicle had received a routine oil change and maintenance service at the dealer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The wrench symbol was displayed. The Ford pass indicated there was a power train failure. The oil was changed prior to the failure. The local dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. No assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: PE23015 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 41, 000.

I am submitting this complaint not out of personal gain but because something bad can and will happen. It almost happened to me had I not been fortunate to pull over on a majorly conjested highway. I was driving on the Atlantic City expressway when my engine seized and my display read an oil light failure I could no longer accelerate I knew I had to pull over immediately because jersey drivers are no joke and had I not someone going 65+ mph would have hit me head on. I no longer had the ability to accelerate so using whatever momentum I had left I used to propel me to the side of the road. I know there is an ongoing investigation in this matter so I can and will do anything to help expedite this.

The car shut down while driving. The tech explained that the oil pump failed and ruined the engine. The tech also alerted us to this being an issue that the NHTSA was investigating.

I am writing to you as I have many concerns about my Ford EcoSport. As I commute to my job or drive to pick up errands, my car suddenly stops. I would make a complete stop and I forget to press the Start/Stop button to disable it from shutting off the engine. This has happened several times and I have taken in my car before and all of the Ford dealerships and service workers have no idea of what the problem is or why it is doing this so frequently. I try to start my car and for some reason, it is not starting properly. It continues to make the sounds of it possibly starting and then it shuts off completely. This is the only vehicle that I have to commute with and do my daily errands. I am very concerned about this vehicle and how it is not a reliable source for me to get from place to place. What if something happens then what? I am in search of another car, which is so sad because it is a 2018 year car, which should be able to hold up and last for another 10+ years. I am very concerned for others who are seeing the same problem as myself. I have a brand-new engine, oil parts, and battery. I have had several oil changes within the same month directly at Ford's service centers. I do not know what I should do next. I am an educator, I help many students with different exceptionalities. When parents need help, I am here for them and support them in any assistance that I can. I know I will always be there for my students. I want to know if YOU can be here for ME and the other 93 individuals who have made reports on our investment in having this troublesome car. What would you do if you had no answers to a looming problem without knowing the exact problem? I appreciate the time and consideration that this report can be made useful for anyone who can help in assisting us. Again, thank you very much. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

I replaced the battery on October 31, 2023. Everything seemed fine. While I was driving, the car sounded a bit rough, and there was more vibration. Later that evening, I took my car out and then I got a low oil pressure alert. Turns out that I had an oil pump failure that also led to my engine, needing to be rebuilt. The dealership is attempting to charge me $6400.35 for repairs, which also happen to be on back order until December 14, 2023. I had previously gotten a check engine light alert, and the error code was about the emission system. I replaced the relevant part, and the error code was cleared. Then the check engine light came on again. Sometime later once again, it was the same error code. I replaced the part a second time, and the error code eventually went off. Sometime later, it came back on yet again. I had a mechanic do a smoke test. There was no leak in the emission system. He then reset the code again during this time of trouble, my car would not restart after doing an auto stop after becoming idle. I had to manually restart the car when this happened. Sometime after the smoke test, I drove the car to Colorado and back. A couple of days after I got back, the check engine light turned on again. I also noticed that it was getting kind of hard to start the car. It had difficulty turning over. Late October I went out of town for a few days. After I came back, I had trouble starting the car. It would not turn over at all. On October 31 I replaced the battery. And after that is when the low oil pressure problem started. I am without a car, and I am at the mercy of car rentals. I don’t have any other job except driving for Uber. Of course, this happened after the powertrain warranty expired.

I was driving to work and had to pull over as my low engine oil pressure light had come on along with a ticking sound in the engine so I pulled over. After waiting 5 hours for a tow I got it to a shop where they are telling me that there is something wrong with the engine. After looking up my vehicle I came across hundreds of people with the same issue.
