We were driving down the road and as I tried to accelerate the car would not go. Then I realized the car said push to start. My husband tried to push the neutral button and told me to restart it but I said you have to push the brake. All this is happening as we are coasting down a main road with speed limits of 55mph and my family is in the vehicle (including 2 toddlers in the back seat). Once we coast to a gravel area off the road I push the brakes and try to restart. My dash goes all black and I try to restart. It tells me battery low push to start. The starter engages and stays engaged until I push the start button again to turn off. The screen tells me it is shutting down functions to save battery. The check engine light is on. We tried 3x with same results. Finally we get out and my parents come to us. Within 15 mins of the initial incident, my husband and dad get in and start my vehicle. My dad suspected the fuel pump. The fuel was right under 1/4 tank but not low enough for the fuel light to be on. They drove to the fuel station, approximately 2 miles away, filled up the tank and drove it to an auto parts store who connected it to a diagnostic machine and it read fuel pump. They drove it back to my home, approximately 2 more miles. The check engine light is still on. I will call the dealership tomorrow. The vehicle has 23,000 miles and is still under manufacturer warranty.

POWER TRAIN
The torque converters for the 2015 Chevy Tahoe’s or the 6L80 transmission are failing at a rate not seem on a newer vehicle. Chevy dealerships in my area are backed up for 2 to 3 weeks just to look at the possible problem. The failure appears to be due to poor design of the transmission torque converters. Safety is at risk due high failure rate that could occur at highway speeds and thus making the vehicle stop without brake lights and possible fail in the middle of the highway. At highway speeds this failure could cause serious damage and possible death. Due to the 2 to 3 weeks for the transmission to be looked at by Chevy, I chose to take my vehicle to a private repair shop. Prior taking my vehicle to the shop the shop knew based on the high failure rate that my transmission failure was based on the torque converter but the total damage was not known until the transmission was rebuilt. The transmission torque converter problem was reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. The Transmission was inspected by AAAA transmission located in Fort Worth. The only warning I had of the failure of the transmission torque converter was accelerating to access the highway and the vehicle started to lose power and shutter due to the lack of acceleration. The luck for me was the highway was not crowded and I did not merge on the highway with the loss of power and possibly getting hit from behind by another vehicle. There were no warning signs of the failure the vehicle just started showing signs of the failure that day. The failure first appeared on June 30, 2023. Attached is the copy of the repair bill and pictures of the metal shavings due to the failure of the torque converter which destroyed the transmission pump. The shavings are steel and aluminum particles.

I was driving down highway and saw a wall of cars and brake lights in the distance, so naturally my foot tried to push the brakes. The pedal was hard, and I panicked because my tahoe was not stopping at all! I continued to stomp on brake pedal all the way until my car actually hit 3 vehicles and then the guardrail! My brakes did not work , because if they did then I would have easily prevented this accident!!

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Passenger side A pillar grab handle On Friday August 18, 2023, my wife was attempting to enter the vehicle while holding the grab handle on the A pillar passenger side and using the running board to step up and into the vehicle, the handle she was using to steady herself while climbing up and into the vehice snapped off from its mounting location and she fell from the vehicle. The handle along with the trim piece covering the A pillar came out as a unit in her hand. She could have been seriously injured. These grab handles need to be made of a more sturdy material to prevent these occurances.

The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,000.

POWER TRAIN
I noticed out of the blue that the Tahoe was down-shifting hard and making a slight whining noise. I brought the vehicle to Supreme Chevrolet in Gonzales for them to diagnose the problem. I was absolutely shocked when they told me that my transmission would need to be replaced. This 2017 Tahoe has only one owner and has not been used for towing, I bring the vehicle to the dealership for regular maintenance. the vehicle only has 127,612 miles. This problem is a huge safety concern because the vehicle could just stop and will not be drivable while driving. This is very dangerous! I have seen hundreds of complaints regarding this same problem on the same make, model, and year. Something needs to be done fast to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers.

The contact stated that while driving at a slow speed and while making a left turn into traffic, the power steering assist malfunctioned and the steering wheel became difficult to turn, causing the vehicle to erroneously drive into a busy intersection. Driving about 40 mph, 8 am ish 8/15/23. Temp was around 70 degrees. 1 car behind me but not too close. Sunroof glass shattered. I was able to pull into a gas station nearby to look at the sunroof to see what happened. Looks like the glass exploded up and not down from something dropping on it. No prior warning. Just instant shatter. Called dealership and the service person said I should call my insurance. I filed a claim with my insurance and plan to take the vehicle to the dealership to help clean it out and cover the hole so I can still drive home from work today.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
My car was acting like it didn’t want to go. I felt the car trying to change gears but it was unable to. Almost caused an accident and I had my two children in the car. No check engine light came on until 2 days later after it began causing problems. I have researched this issue and it is a recurrent problem with Chevrolet Tahoes 2016. My husband had the same problem with his 2016 GMC sierra and had to have his transmission replaced at 118,000 miles. Seems like a recurrent problem with GMCs and CHEVROLET vehicles. It’s very dangerous.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
While driving at night, the vehicle instrument cluster suddenly blacked out. All driver information pertaining to speed, fuel, tachometer, oil pressure and convenience lighting failed. The entire instrument cluster was an unlit black hole. I called GM and they advised there was no reports of this issue and no recalls pertaining to my specific vehicle number. A quick on line Google search revealed service bulletin [XXX].The GM associate I spoke with said they could not confirm or deny that other complaints of this problem had been brought to their attention. She stated that all parts in all their vehicles are vin number specific and that it’s possible I’m an isolated incident. I feel GM Is aware of this dangerous issue and should immediately issue a safety recall before the effected vehicles are involved in fatal crashes after being startled by this blackout event. This is clearly a driver safety issue that GM is not being proactive addressing. Intermittent loss of sound on all electrical aspects of vehicle. Can not hear music, phone calls, blinker, seat belt signal, crash detection sound. None will work. Even after turning off and turning back on issue remains unless vehicle is off for 15-30 minutes then it will reboot !

Transmission noticeably slipping. When Tahoe is placed in reverse, car begins rolling forward, and sputters backwards. Elongated shifting between gears 2-3 causing RPMs to spike significantly.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
I have not had a wreck but the fact that when you press the brake pedal the dome lights blink and when you turn on the left turn signal, the dome lights blink. If you hold down the brake like if you’re at a traffic light the dome lights blink continuously until you let off the brake. Now, during the day, that’s no big problem but at night it poses a serious safety risk. A bright light in your eyes while driving is blinding and a sudden bright light in the pitch black dark could lead to an accident. I called the dealer to ask about it and was told yeah, they knew about it and it would cost me like $550 to repair even though it was a defect that they readily acknowledge.
